its not so much as the interview but being there to congratulate Bryson would have showed that he had a lot of class. Leaving for whatever reason is a big sign of immaturity. The same way the PGAT used him as a mouth piece to trash talk players that decided to play somewhere else, he runs away to face the tough situation. I don't think he will shed that image anytime soon. The fans remember, some will give him a pass, but players know that was an ass move.

Rory is a very influential person in the game of golf. Young players look up to him. Golf has always been a gentlemen’s game of honor.
You must set an example. Period.

tough day for Rors...easy to sit back and blab, like I am doing now...tough, but I think he should have toughed it out, answer a few hard questions, and then jumped on his private jet where he had a cold one waiting for him.

Rory should have stuck around and addressed the media. He could have said that the tournament was rigged and that he didn’t really lose, that his victory was stolen.

His big mistake was not to congratulate the winner, as for waiting 10 years for his next major, it isn't written in stone that he should win, there are a few others in the tournament who could and would like to win it too don't forget.

Look at 2023 us open sunday, 2022 open sunday, he's been nothing but gracious in defeat. let's cut him some slack, he just went through one of the most devestating losses in golf history, not to mention he probably does the most media in professional golf already. I think he can get a pass here...

  • @MrLee23

He's not paid to do post tournament press conferences. However he was paid quite a lot to finish 2nd. The winner is obligated, the guy who just blew a 2 stroke lead is not. Usually agree w/ Dan but this & the Deshaun Watson thing has me a bit disappointed in the Boss.

So what he didn’t talk ..
Maybe people want to see him at his lowest for their own enjoyment
    Leave the man alone
Absolutely brilliant golfer who just missed out ..
You got to be in it to win it ..
There are plenty more multiple major winners playing whose game has completely dissolved and are not even competitive anymore ..
    The Rory bashing is ridiculous.

Rory was quite entitled to slip away after the nature of his defeat. He is more than generous with the media during tough moments but, on this occasion, the enormity of it just left him bereft and hanging around was too much for him.

I guess the media folks have to make an issue of it because it is at the heart of their existence, but it isn’t a huge deal. He (of all people) will talk, and this is probably best for all sides. There’s no norm in pro golf that a losing competitor congratulates the winner-not like they were in the same group.

I don't hold it against him. Considering it's been 10 years since he won a major this loss was extremely difficult. Answering a couple of questions would have been good but I didn't think anything about it when he declined an interview.

It's more about the fact he didn't have the guts to go shake Bryson's hands afterwards. It makes him look like a coward and bad sportsman. Bryson finished 2nd in the prior major and was one of the first people shaking Xavier's hand.

Well said. If anything you were a little too generous with Mac. It was PISS WEAK that he didn't interview nor shake Bryson's hand. And his statement was pure weasel. "I regret a few things, mostly the missed putts". How about spitting the dummy at the same time as running off with the gold? PGA needs a new lead ambassador ... Scottie.

The worst shot in golf isn’t the shank. Its the missed 3 foot putt. It wouldn’t be so bad if he lost the tournament by some other shot-out of bounds off the tee or a shanked 8 iron to the green. The shank would have been perverse. The missed putt was pathetic.
