Person with childhood trauma and their journey to self improvement/healing
Or
Person with childhood trauma finding love in the people they meet
This way it’s easier to find certain stories similar to this, maybe doesn’t count as cliche but falls into common trope category.
Who else was mad that she didn’t pay her first trainer back or visit him? I kept wondering when she would visit!!
Or visit Jolene!
She didn’t kept her promise to return him 10 dollars 😔
Didn't even give him the 10 dollars!
I wasn't upset. From Shaibel's perspective, she visited him everytime she played her tournaments and paid him back way more than ten bucks everytime she won.
@@covingtonhalltown3730 I totally agree
I never actually considered that she had to memorize the moves she was going to make
Especially the speed chess scene where it was impossible to cut and edit! The way they moved the pieces and slammed the clock was so close to how it actually looks like in real life
@@winson0000 could you remind ne what scene that is?
@@user-sb6jk2fu7t there's 2 such scenes in the show. First one was right before her match with Benny where she lost to him multiple times. The next was the speed chess simultaneous at Benny's house.
@@user-sb6jk2fu7t ep 6 i believe, if not its ep. 5 (Simultanous speed chest at Benny's apartment)
I would fail that
i hated her mother but with time she grew on me. their relationship is so damn weird but works so well at the same time.
The adoptive mother?
It’s not weird. It’s natural. How would the mother love her immediately ?
They grew affection as they spend time together.
The mother didn’t know that chess is something that important for her
They weren’t rich either. She did care for her. She told her to get some friends and social clubs instead of being alone playing chess.
I binged this in a day. Could. Not. Stop. Watching.
took me a couple days... both times... Thinking I'll watch it again soon.
same it took me two days 😭
Is it me, or is Anya Taylor-Joy looking a lot like Elsa from "Frozen"?
I got a Sanderson sister vibe
well she can be whoever she wanna be cuz she can
I was thinking Ciri from Witcher
I thought she was from Euphoria, jules vaughn.
So creepy looking
This tv show was so utterly perfect that they will be really desperate to make a sequel and they absolutely should not.
It was perfect and it should remain perfect.
Period.
Yes! It's so tempting to think you want more, but it's perfect to be left exactly as it is.
Yes!! I agree lol I just want like a 2minute clip uploaded by netflix to confirm beth and benny got together then I’ll be okay
It’s 3 am, I just finished the show and my head is literally throbbing of crying the entire time while watching the last episode. Definitely perfect casting, cinematography, writing, ... everything! I love this show!
This is one of the best shows I've watched in recent years.
I actually can't think of any limited shows that I enjoyed more.
Anya's acting was literally hypnotizing
Oh the chemistry between Beth and Benny! I have a crazy wish that they make another movie together, I can't get enough of them
Anya did such a fantastic job as Beth. Can't imagine anyone else in the role.
She's one of the most beautiful human beings I've ever seen.
No hate for Emily In Paris but this here, is a complete Masterpiece.
The true art of storytelling.
emily in paris is trash 😭
@@jalj206 this compared to emily in paris is like comparing learning how to walk with learning 3 languages yourself
I could not believe how this movie literally pulled me into the moment if that makes sense. I do not a thing about the game of chess, yet, I was enamored with the entire movie. I was so thankful I was able to almost binge watch it. If I had to wait a week to week for each new show, I would have been tied into knots. The numbers of moves each actor had to learn, especially Beth Harmon, were phenomenal. I highly recommend viewing even if do not know anything about chess.
One of the best mini series shows I've ever watched.
I loved this series. I loved Jolene and Beth. Honestly all the characters were amazing.
i love how Beth and Alma 's relationship grew in the series.....
I love Beth & Benny’s chemistry! Cast was superb!
and Anya’s always been so elegant, i love her!
Like literally I need Ana Taylor Joy to win the emmy because this serie was masterpiece and she just made it great as Harmon
I know right, her acting performance as Beth is so amazing. She better win awards, or at the very least, I hope she won't be snubbed from nominations
Facts!!!!!
she carried an entire show. I believe that requires exceptional talent
I love how you can‘t quite place Anya‘s accent. It one moment she sounds british and the next she sounds american. It’s a really strange mix, it‘s so deliciously confusing
I think I remember hearing she learned English at 8/9? Could b wrong but if not that could explain her accent.
Born in US raised in Argentina and UK, spoke Spanish until 8/9 when she moved to UK. Mostly been playing American characters. That explain it?
Her spanish accent ia 100% argentinian..
she said that her accent changes bc english is not her first language so she tends to mimic people who are around her
@@Luna-os5jf yeah that would make a lot of sense, I watched another interview of hers that took place in 2016 where she spoke English and had a full American accent, no English or Australian at all.
Just watch the 7 series non stop & thinking who is this talented young actress.. then, wait she's the girl from split?
I finished the seven episodes in a day 😂 she is so amazing and attractive in this series
Watch The Witch she is amazing there too
she's becoming Meryl Streep status where I watch her in anything
I hated her so much in Split, I didn't finished the movie because of her. But in this show, damn, she is perfect.
Loved her in Split. But try Emma 2020 she's great there too and a completely different genre altogether
you're not telling me that she was wearing a wig for the entire show
yup
Anya Taylor joy was breath taking in this serie...the role was made for her.
I watched it in one go and it’s amazing.....I really want more of this story
Loved the series based on the characters! It is worth every minute....Thank You Netflix for putting out such a worthy piece of theater.....
I loved this show and I especially loved her hair. Idk what it was about the hairstyles but they really added so much to her character for me. The acting was impeccable and I just wish I could rewatch it for the first time again
Thomas is stuck as a 13 year old. Can't believe he's 30
Let's take a moment to appreciate Marielle Heller, on-screen, she is fantastic, and off-screen, she is visionary
She's so gorgeous :'( binge watched the series, so amazing
anya is an amazing actress!!! very emotional
One of the greatest Netflix exclusives I’ve seen! Anya Taylor-Joy definitely the right for the role and also great for 60s drama! 10/10
this girl is a star, the series are a complete hit, she steals the screen
i also think more credit should be given to the young girl who plays Beth as an orphan, in the first episodes, shes hardly mentioned really.
I just binged watched this entire show, it is honestly amazing, the acting was outstanding
She reminded me of Emma stone in the series but Is totally different in this interview... amazing!
Rewatched it twice. And my sister started it when I started it but I finished it on my own and somehow managed to re-watch and almost finish it before her. GREAT ACTING and the outfits were so perfectly picked.
This show wow. Just came out from thin air and swept me away. I watched it in two sittings and definitely will rewatch in the near future. The visuals, the acting, the dialogue, the wardrobe all just amazing. I am so impressed. I hope Netflix can bring this quality level to more of their projects.
She’s freaking gorgeous and an amazing actress. She knows how to choose her work, I’m excited to see her in New Mutants
I heard that movie bad, though. Shame.
Personally I think her acting was amazing, same with other actors too but I think the storyline was just so jumbled, not a great movie in my opinion
I NEED ANOTHER SEASON! THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT IS BEAUTIFUL AND I NEED BETH AND BENNY TOGETHER IN THE NEXT SEASON !!!!
yessss i shipped them so hard
Yesss
beth and benny are 🥰🥰
sorry to break it to ya but this was a limited/miniseries
I totally agree with you. The second the series was over, i checked (harhar) places to see of there was more storyline between the two. I even checked fanfiction because i liked them so much that I was not going to be picky...
Oh I just this so much! All the actresses and actors, the characters, the costumes the music. and Marielle Heller Stole my heart
I wonder what the actor Dudley felt like when they "fixed" his teeth as a part of the story
he probably likes money.
Were the bad teeth actually his? I assumed there's some trick behind it, because actors usually work on their looks.
It's pretty well-known that Americans care a lot more about teeth than Brits, so I'm sure he understood why his character did that
@@hollywoodshopaholic but in the Infographics Show, brits rank higher in teeth hygiene than Americans???
@@gabrielvilla6274 dental health is different than dental aesthetics. Health is more important than looks.
I just finished Queen’s Gambit (thank you Netflix!). Immediately won over!! Fascinating that there wasn’t one bad guy or evil villain and yet the series is compelling and hypnotic. The entire cast gave spot on performances, and this interview gives us a peek at the actors who gave the series humanity. Anya Taylor-Joy, you are incredible! Thank you for posting!🌹
Man I cried when Beth revisited that basement and saw Shaibal looked out for her even when Beth forgot about him. That scene when she grabs the old picture is one of the saddest scenes. It is one gem of a show it definitely deserves much more attention.Much watchh!
just wanna say that Jolene is an absolute queen and i adore her
I found that she equated her life to chess, and watching the show was like watching a chess match in its own way. It was a very beautiful, cerebral and sometimes haunting story. I loved it!
Ugh.. such a brilliant series. I was hooked immediately. Love all these actors!
Recently watched this for the 2nd time. Love Anya she was great in Split, the witch, thoroughbreds. Thanks for all the great entertainment, many awards in your future
I really liked how all the men that she played against were so mature about losing. Truly wholesome! I loved the relationship between Beth and her step-mom too!!
Anya’s acting skills are amazing. Can’t wait to see how she takes on the role of illyana rasputin aka Magik. Great movie.
In my opinion Illyana was the best thing about New Mutants!
In my opinion her performance was average.
Taylor-Joy's thespian zeal to this role is beautiful, so glad that she got this role, absolutely loved the characters and art.
Anya Taylor-Joy ❤️❤️❤️
Looks like Sid from Ice Age 😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒
@@jamesrearden1979 well everybody has their own taste.
But shes definitely gorgeous and mesmerizing.
Are you blind???
@@jamesrearden1979 shut up
She tranform herself throughout the series. In my opinion what makes a great actress.
really enjoyed it, I loved the relationship with her adopted mother, and Moses Ingram's character, to see the support by all the men was huge, we need to see more of this these days
Thomas Brodie-Sangster looks like he's about 14 years old.
Thank you for making my weekend fun. Absolutely loved the show.
This show was absolutely outstanding. I’m at loss for words.
love this show, haven't seen anything like it in a long time. then also, there's the cinematography and costume design. my goodness, nobody's talking about those.
I was happy to see the actress who played Daisy in Downton Abbey as a teacher at the orphanage. This is a much watch mini-series, possibly a new high for Netflix imo. Not a single throwaway scene, they all had importance making the rollercoaster so delish. Anya is amazing and the rest of the cast were excellent as well.
Anya Taylor-Joy is so articulate in her interviews.
This Netflix show was up there with the first series of Stranger Things. Exceptional.
I swear that Thomas Brodie Sangster is the 21 century vampire he does not age
Binge-watched it starting yesterday and I completed it about 30 mins ago or so. So well produced. She was terrific at the role.
Btw I had a feeling Anya didn’t know a thing about Chess in real life, prior to film this :P
I knew very little, the basics, and it was fascinating all the same. Thanks to Netflix for this production level, I hope we’ll be getting more and more content of this quality in the future.
A true master work. Stellar performances all around with Anya-Taylor Joy's performance being simply mesmerizing.
This is an amazing show. Kudos to Netflix for going with this project. The way Beth’s character grows throughout and finding her own stride is amazing, Being a chess player I was impressed how they stayed true to the game.
