  • Hi all, this is a comparison video between stock and modified Kyosho Mini-z 4x4 Crawlers.
The first 4 minutes 45 seconds are just me going over what modifications were done to them, so feel free to skip on unless you want to know the details.
I do two sets of comparisons, First on household obsticale course, the SEcond on rocks outside.
At minutes 4 and 45 seconds they are on household obstacles like building blocks, box, adjustable incline ramp, etc....
At minute 7, i do the outside comparison over some rocks and inclines.
    Process for comparison:
I actually ran the modified trucks first, I tried to make the course kind of tricky for the modified trucks, then I "unmodified" them back to box stock and ran the exact course again.
    My final thoughts:
I'm actually very impressed with how well the stock trucks perform, I was surprised when the stock trucks did worse on the household items than the rocks, but hey, that's what's fun is being surprised! I actually thought the Jimny wouldn't make it through the rock course, but it did!
Anyway, I'm still learning my video editing skills, some may just tell me to stick to 3D design/print, but i'm kind of digging the video thing. LOL

Great video mate 👍 I put some o rings on my suspension which allowed me to adjust the stiffness works great with your body lift

Good tip! i may have to try that! i would really like some true oil shocks but the HR ones still seem pretty good with some diff oil.

I ordered your parts too, and I die waiting for them. The big difference between the Jimny and the 4runner is the scale and smaller tires of the Jimny. It makes the Diff the touchpoint and on top I scratch a lot the bumper in tough rock terrain. This is the main reason I went to mod with your parts. I organised the same tires and rim you have: Did you glue them? Is there a foam-insert required? Thanks dude, you are awesome!

Thanks, i finally glued my tires, they were NOT glued in the video, however they really should have been because i'd turn to fast to too deep sometimes and the tire would roll off the wheel. shortly after this video i modied the jimny with my electronics swap kit and with that power and the extra steering the hitec servo had, i had to glue them as the tires constantly came off. I do not have foam in them, as light as the jimny is it didn't really seem to need it, but they are vented. thanks for watching!

I thought i had responded but apparently it didn't save....I usually try to catch it when multiple orders come in like that for the same person, if i see it before i print the shipping labels I can refund the extra shipping charges...sorry i didn't see the multiple orders!

    hi.
how can you say comparison between stock and modified as both have been modified.?

    • @SleekRC
      @SleekRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Not sure what you mean, the stock ones are both stock like they come out the box, the ones that have been modified are modified......can you help me understand what you're saying has been modified on the stock trucks?

Great video, can't wait for my parts to arrive! Why did you keep the AAA batteries instead of using the electronic swap kit on the modded trucks? If you used the hex adapters and the same sized axial wheels would you need to install a body lift for the 4runner too? Thanks for the videos

    • @SleekRC

Good question! i was a bit pressed for time honestly and already had them modified the way you see them, so i decided to leave like that. The electronics swap is probably one of my "trickier" mods i make, i figured if i did some of the more "basic" ones then that would be enough to see the performance difference...maybe i'll do another one without all my blabbing up front to show off the electronics swap.
and for the 4runner, actually you can put that wheel/tire combination from the jimny on the 4runner and it would work, might get a bit more body rub, but the 4runner has more clearance to start with, i make a suspension block kit that just raises about 2 to 2 1/2 mm and that would give it a little more clearance. The Jimny i had to make the body lift kit just to put bigger tires on, not really any way around that, and the body lift does NOT work on the toyota, for both technical and cosmetic reasons, the side blocks would show as there's no body sides to hide it, and the bumper brackets are completely different.
great questions, and thanks for watching!

@@SleekRC awesome. Thanks for the reply. I'd love to see a video comparing the AAA set up to the lipo set up.
Also, did you have to put o rings in the suspension to add the diff oil? Or is it thick enough it doesn't leak?
Is there a Facebook page or something where I can find more info on doing mods? Pretty new to the scene. Thanks!

@@nikdunndh hey, I just did the tiniest bit of 2000 weight diff oil to coat the inside per hot racings instructions, i actuall think 3000 or even 5000 may be better, but all you are doing is coating the inside wall so it moves easier, its not a true oil damper.
Check out the Facebook group kyosho mini-z 4x4, good group of people sharing tons of ideas and usually where I announce new stuff like the upgrades I do in the videos.

This thing would of been so much better if Kyosho didn't screw us with a 4 wire servo & friction shocks. I sold mini z's when they 1st came out, worked at a hobby shop from 99-01, Tmaxx's were all the rage lol. Always wanted one but kept away from anything smaller than a 1:12 or 1:10 M chassis. Have ran EP 1:10 for bashing or racing & crawling/trailing.
Anyway back on topic, I've got 350 in my Hilux version with Xtra Speed & kyosho upgrades. It really just needs a better servo to to turn the slightly larger 1.0 wheels & tires I got off eBay, one set is actually beadlocks the other swampers just glued. They both are more aggressive & wider with 7mm hex adapter. I just run stock wheels n tires so it'll turn. Just not sure I want to put another dime in this little rig much less swap electrics all for a servo though?! The 7 tooth pinion lol, I guess if you can sell them more power to you.

To each his own.....I have fun with the hobby, if anything i make or show in video makes someone happy and enjoy the hobby more then i'm totally good with it.

oh and slight clarification, i made the wheels on the toyota, the jimny had axial c10 wheels/tires.
