Owning several escorts and valentine v1g1 I was set on the v1g2 until the price hike. I bought the R8 and used vortex’s settings and haven’t looked back. The range is incredible.
I feel the same way about my R8 in that it might false a bit more, but it's a really trustworthy radar detector. I like Escorts and love my MAXcam and Redline, but it's just hard to argue with the R8 on your daily commutes in heavy traffic when you need to have the best possible situational awareness.
Wow! I just. Purchased the Uniden R8 after considering all 3. The R8 combines the best of the other two. The kicker is Uniden Lifetime Speed Cams and Stop Light Cams while Escort charges for Subscriptions or forces you to upgrade to a newer unit.
I've had the 360c since launch and it works well for me. However, in my area, there has been a dramatic increase in laser use, so that is where I'm concentrating my next purchase.

disagree with the claim uniden is better because i alerts more and that a radar has to detect radar...it also has to not detect radar when there is no radar otherwise you may as well just have an alert going off all the time, its guaranteed to be going of if there is a camera...so I wouldn't dismiss false alert suppression so quickly, although I agree its better to be slightl over alerting than under. The other aspect here would be what your local authorities use.
I had the R7 and I still have the V2 but the Mark II is my favorite detector since then released the latest update. I just got back from a 640 Mile trip through Florida and the Cops were everywhere. The Escort got them from long range front and back. I had it going off for 20 Mins from the rear and I could not see anyone behind me as far as the eye can see. We got into a little traffic and the cop caught up with me it was him. I let him pass and it switched to the front. We also had an alert that was in front and was miles and thought it was a false. Sure enough he was in the median and got the guy flying by me. Also this is by FAR the QUIETEST detector I have ever had. I am so happy with my purchase. If you want a barely used Valentine V2 im selling it cheap. Horrible detector.

I really really like the maxcam because of the integration, but I know the R8 has better range and detection. If I was in your shoes, I'd go with something custom installed so there's nothing even visible on the windshield. Something like the Escort Redline Ci 360c would be a solid pick.

I have a mustang so the car sits lower than regular cars, I don’t think it would visible from standing outside, plus there is an upper dark strip in windshield that could hide it from the front.

What is the best ESCORT radar detector? The redline? What about the Escort MAXcam 360c. Is that better or worse? Are you losing radar detection benefits with the added camera?
Both detectors are good choices with their own strengths and weaknesses so I choose different ones for different use cases. This also changes over time as the firmware updates change the detectors, new apps come out, we discover weaknesses we didn’t know about before. My opinions at any point are based on the knowledge we have and the state of things at that time. As things change moving forward, you can expect my opinion of what’s “best” will be updated accordingly too. This video, for example, was from over a year ago and I’ve done more recent comparisons since. The R8 is an excellent detector and easily one of my favorites. It’s the one on my windshield right now and I hope you’re enjoying yours too.
Escort's whole ecosystem is a massive cash grab grift. Each of the last half dozen Escort detector launches have been half broken, always awaiting the next precious software updates that make it usable as it was advertised. tl;dw - Uniden.
Need some advice! I have a uniden r8 and a BMW with the athermic glass and my radar detection is severely hindered by this is there anything I can do about this?
You'll either need to use the cutout location on the windshield on the windshield designed for toll passes, GPS receivers, etc., or you'll need a custom installed unit that puts the antenna in your grill area.
Good video, but I really think you need to stop giving detector companies a pass for releasing UNFINISHED products. These are almost $1000 products at this point, and nobody would accept an iphone without bluetooth. These connection issues are unacceptable and they're less likely to change unless people start to call them out.

Oh I talk about that constantly both publicly and privately. This is actually one of my biggest complaints with RDs. They all have some silly issues I wish would be addressed. Maybe they’re just small companies with limited resources, but there’s nothing that I’m genuinely satisfied with. Like you I wish that these things would finally get addressed. Ultimately there’s gotta be a like with how bad things need to be before a recommendation gets dropped altogether. I have done that before, but if I get too aggressive with that line, then again I wouldn’t be able to recommend anything, despite the fact that there are a lot of options that ultimately would still protect people which is really the point of these things… It’s a tricky balance and you can make a reasonable argument for it either way.

Can you message me or do a video for us? I ride a motorcycle, and I've been told many different things about which detector is best. A few buddies recommend Valentine because of Bluetooth. But it doesn't have a GPS. Escort has all the fancy options I'll need with a helmet on with Bluetooth cell phone helmet system. I need alerts in my helmet or a bright visual. Preferably both. I'm stuck between the Escort MAX and the Valentine. HELP PLEASE!

Happy with my redline 360c and shifter integration. Works well for me. Was using the Uniden but ended switching to escort because of the escort camera and shifter integration. And as you’ve explained in the past, there is nothing perfect. My setup works well for me. Good video!! Thx
I had the R3 first, worked as it's reputation, at the time, gave it credit for. When the R7 came out and the first time it came available below $400, I bought it and sold the R3 mostly for the Arrows but it had a little range advantage as well. There is a fine line between a detector that is set up to ignore most or all(haha) falses suffering other performance issues(slow response, missing legitmate signals, etc) apparently related to the settings effort to make it false free! To me my R7 lands in a happy medium. The lockout is somewhat hit and miss but I can live with it since I usually know the source of the signal. My brain's internal ignore feature is about as good as a BSM filter, haha. Far as I'm concerned, those falses just tell me my detector is Working. Probably the most amazing feature is the detector's ability to track multiple radar sources. Came up on the traffic stop a few weeks ago. At about 3 miles away it picked up the first Ka source, about 2.5 miles it caught a second one and just a few yards later, it was tracking 3 sources at once. Sure enough, reached the scene of the traffic stop and there are 3 patrol cars there. Should have made a video, dang it. Right now, I wouldn't trade my R7 straight up for anything else. I'm use to it, it performs well and I know it's quirks and can live with them.

I bought the R8 based on your videos. I then bought the Valentine Gen 2 for my wife. They are both great! I find the R8 is the better long range KA band detector!
I got the R8 last week I just returned it today at Best Buy. It was constantly going off to non existent threats. I watched vortex’s video on how to set it up but even then it was still going off, I’m thinking of waiting for Thea or getting the redline 360 c as I do drive a comercial truck and I heard redlines are good at remaining anonymous.
Not only that the guy in the video just put out a video on the redline 360 C as the best performing radar detector in the market. just search for him in his review on the redline 360 C and you will see the TH-cam video. It’s crazy.

I thought I had set every notch correctly for k on drive smart app but used escort live on trip In the course of one mile on i75 in ga I had one inaccurate escort live warning, 3 bsm or whatever k bull turd these cars had and right in middle of all that a compact de hit handled by the true legit alp Ppl that have seen video had to laugh Unless uniden can almost completely filter out false k s I’ll stick w rl with k SHUT OFF. IMO if uniden can’t learn and lockout Walmart type k alerts it’s ridiculous Not defending escort as their customer service has continually gone down hill it’s been effective on auto learning those auto door balmart type frequencies for 15 years. If uniden can’t do this they are in trouble Think all depends on what area you drive For the most part ka and laser used on interstates In fl and ga. K is worthless on ga highways..shut it of 99% of anything you need to watch out for comes from Ka and Laser, period... why do people even bother with K band anymore.. all the cops in my family say no one uses k band anymore unless you're in some small Dusty Fart Town..
Just bought a R8. Coming from an Escort. Couldn’t justify spending more for less of a DETECTOR. Like you said at the minimum it should detect forget all else. If Uniden actually fixes the blue tooth and develops an app, Uniden could actually “Set the standard” as Escorts claim but don’t deliver. The R8 is a very long range detector. An upgrade from escort on detection. Uniden needs to fix the GPS auto mute fast. Note: based on Escorts delay and half arse answer for the not triggering I am starting to think Escorts problem is HARDWARE and not software otherwise why not fix it. They are a RD company right? Sometimes when it looks like a duck it is a duck.
Built quality of the Uniden R8 could be much better for $699, that being said would still pick it over the Escort radar detectors. Was going to buy the Valentine One Gen 2 instead of the Uniden R8 but Valentine Research raised the price by $100.
My vote goes to Escort 360 Redline! I own the Redline, V1 Gen 2, and the Uniden R7. Love the interface, connectivity, and auto lock outs of the Redline the best. Updating the Uniden is a pain, not to mention subpar lockouts

Bought a max 360. Put it back in the box and sold it. Was no comparison to my old STI driver magnesium. I have to pay attention to bands and threat meter. Anyone have the unidens. Which is better.
Please compete old STI magnum with R8. The winner is old STI magnum. I'm not buying anything unless it has laser jammer and completely shield. New radars are worthless.
What one would y’all recommend for just daily driving with some highway driving I need one that’s got some range and trustworthy but I don’t wanna have to update it every now and then just leave it in my car and call it good
Thank you for the video. IMO when the R8 gets better lockouts it will be hands down the best all round performer of the group. When BT gets enabled and app proves useful, it will be the runaway winner, maybe lockouts could be improved with just the app looking after the flaws. Escorts compact and quality feel is nice, but the display is generations behind. Radar performance rules and if you face instant on the Escorts don't deliver premium performance to match the price. Escort apps have near zero usefulness for me and have been troublesome. Looking forward to improvements from both asap. Regards,
Bluetooth and added features mean nothing to range. I like lockout and BSM filtering, but for the range, give me the Uniden. I have an R3 that hurls with BSM, but it works. I was waiting for Theia but I need to upgrade soon.
Would it be possible for you to do a video on why some radar detectors are detectable and others are not. What are the fundamentals in being undetectable?
Confusing review. For 800 bucks, the Escort needs to be perfect. And what about their crappy customer service?? R8 sounds like the way to go. It will never false as much of my Radenso Pro M.

I always buy my radar detectors on Black Friday since there’s always really good deals. There was a flash sale on Amazon and I got the R8 for $150 off. And whenever I want to sell them I just post them on a car forum site and sell them for what I paid. They usually sell pretty easy too
@@Resist4 every year on Black Friday there’s always great deals. My previous radar detector was a max 360 I got for $350 on Black Friday on Amazon when they were still retailing for $599. The flash sale was like for only a few hours too I was keeping a close eye on it
When Uniden improves their build quality, I'll buy one. Very cheaply made. Escort has nice build quality. The detector that joins forces with waze, will be a winner.

I bet most people feel Uniden is the better RADAR DETECTOR over Escort. I' would run a V1 Gen 2 before an Escort. I cant rely on Escort as a Radar detector plus the continued false advertising of Escort over the years turns me off.

I am still using my old Escort Max 360 MK1. It has never failed me since I bought it in 2013. I have thought about replacing my decade old radar. Not sure if it is worth it.

I stopped buying Escorts over 20 years ago. Today it is Uniden 7 and V1V2. Valentine is just HARD to beat IMHO.

I don’t know which brand(s) off the top of my head. Manufacturers don’t stick to small subsections of K band the way to do with Ka band.

Can you message me or do a video for us? I ride a motorcycle, and I've been told many different things about which detector is best. A few buddies recommend Valentine because of Bluetooth. But it doesn't have a GPS. Escort has all the fancy options I'll need with a helmet on with Bluetooth cell phone helmet system. I need alerts in my helmet or a bright visual. Preferably both. I'm stuck between the Escort MAX and the Valentine. HELP PLEASE!

Happy with my redline 360c and shifter integration. Works well for me. Was using the Uniden but ended switching to escort because of the escort camera and shifter integration. And as you’ve explained in the past, there is nothing perfect. My setup works well for me. Good video!! Thx
I had the R3 first, worked as it's reputation, at the time, gave it credit for. When the R7 came out and the first time it came available below $400, I bought it and sold the R3 mostly for the Arrows but it had a little range advantage as well.
There is a fine line between a detector that is set up to ignore most or all(haha) falses suffering other performance issues(slow response, missing legitmate signals, etc) apparently related to the settings effort to make it false free! To me my R7 lands in a happy medium. The lockout is somewhat hit and miss but I can live with it since I usually know the source of the signal. My brain's internal ignore feature is about as good as a BSM filter, haha. Far as I'm concerned, those falses just tell me my detector is Working. Probably the most amazing feature is the detector's ability to track multiple radar sources. Came up on the traffic stop a few weeks ago. At about 3 miles away it picked up the first Ka source, about 2.5 miles it caught a second one and just a few yards later, it was tracking 3 sources at once. Sure enough, reached the scene of the traffic stop and there are 3 patrol cars there. Should have made a video, dang it.
Right now, I wouldn't trade my R7 straight up for anything else. I'm use to it, it performs well and I know it's quirks and can live with them.
I'm still rocking a R3 and can live with the K falses. It's easy to tell if it's a false alert by the strength of the signal.

I bought the R8 based on your videos. I then bought the Valentine Gen 2 for my wife. They are both great! I find the R8 is the better long range KA band detector!
i got my R8 and so far i am loving it, no bsm alerts yet and omg the range on ka band is 3 to 4 miles wow !
I got the R8 last week I just returned it today at Best Buy. It was constantly going off to non existent threats. I watched vortex’s video on how to set it up but even then it was still going off, I’m thinking of waiting for Thea or getting the redline 360 c as I do drive a comercial truck and I heard redlines are good at remaining anonymous.
You must have gotten a bad one. Mine is silent as a mouse, even driving through NYC.

Not only that the guy in the video just put out a video on the redline 360 C as the best performing radar detector in the market. just search for him in his review on the redline 360 C and you will see the TH-cam video. It’s crazy.

@@alambe7275 Any radar detector will have some false alerts. Compared to the R3/R7, it's incredibly quiet.
I love my R7, when I'm ready to upgrade I will definitely be going R8 but for now it's just not worth the jump.
I have utmost respect in Mr vortex. Think his job is getting harder as more bsm and tech hits new cars.

In the course of one mile on i75 in ga I had one inaccurate escort live warning, 3 bsm or whatever k bull turd these cars had and right in middle of all that a compact de hit handled by the true legit alp Ppl that have seen video had to laugh

99% of anything you need to watch out for comes from Ka and Laser, period... why do people even bother with K band anymore.. all the cops in my family say no one uses k band anymore unless you're in some small Dusty Fart Town..

Just bought a R8. Coming from an Escort. Couldn’t justify spending more for less of a DETECTOR. Like you said at the minimum it should detect forget all else. If Uniden actually fixes the blue tooth and develops an app, Uniden could actually “Set the standard” as Escorts claim but don’t deliver. The R8 is a very long range detector. An upgrade from escort on detection. Uniden needs to fix the GPS auto mute fast. Note: based on Escorts delay and half arse answer for the not triggering I am starting to think Escorts problem is HARDWARE and not software otherwise why not fix it. They are a RD company right? Sometimes when it looks like a duck it is a duck.

Built quality of the Uniden R8 could be much better for $699, that being said would still pick it over the Escort radar detectors. Was going to buy the Valentine One Gen 2 instead of the Uniden R8 but Valentine Research raised the price by $100.

My vote goes to Escort 360 Redline! I own the Redline, V1 Gen 2, and the Uniden R7. Love the interface, connectivity, and auto lock outs of the Redline the best. Updating the Uniden is a pain, not to mention subpar lockouts

Bought a max 360. Put it back in the box and sold it. Was no comparison to my old STI driver magnesium. I have to pay attention to bands and threat meter. Anyone have the unidens. Which is better.

IMO when the R8 gets better lockouts it will be hands down the best all round performer of the group.
When BT gets enabled and app proves useful, it will be the runaway winner, maybe lockouts could be improved with just the app looking after the flaws.
Escorts compact and quality feel is nice, but the display is generations behind.
Radar performance rules and if you face instant on the Escorts don't deliver premium performance to match the price.
Escort apps have near zero usefulness for me and have been troublesome.

Bluetooth and added features mean nothing to range. I like lockout and BSM filtering, but for the range, give me the Uniden. I have an R3 that hurls with BSM, but it works. I was waiting for Theia but I need to upgrade soon.
Would it be possible for you to do a video on why some radar detectors are detectable and others are not. What are the fundamentals in being undetectable?
My guess would be the casing, most undetectable detectors have magnesium cases (like the escort redline360c, V1 Gen2, Radenso DS1)
Confusing review. For 800 bucks, the Escort needs to be perfect. And what about their crappy customer service?? R8 sounds like the way to go. It will never false as much of my Radenso Pro M.
Sorry but there is no such thing as a perfect detector or car or phone or anything else, no matter how much you’re willing to pay. Just setting realistic expectations here…
Thanks for the update. I will just have to be content with the R8 for a few years since that's what I have. These things are too expensive to jump from one unit to another for some minor feature or convenience.
I always buy my radar detectors on Black Friday since there’s always really good deals. There was a flash sale on Amazon and I got the R8 for $150 off. And whenever I want to sell them I just post them on a car forum site and sell them for what I paid. They usually sell pretty easy too

When Uniden improves their build quality, I'll buy one. Very cheaply made. Escort has nice build quality. The detector that joins forces with waze, will be a winner.
Escort used to reference Waze info, but Waze stopped allowing it.

It does. The V1 has some distinct delays on K band that I'd love to see improved upon, but at least it does alert to those guns.

These days I lean towards the R8, but as always different people have different needs.
I bet most people feel Uniden is the better RADAR DETECTOR over Escort. I' would run a V1 Gen 2 before an Escort. I cant rely on Escort as a Radar detector plus the continued false advertising of Escort over the years turns me off.

I am still using my old Escort Max 360 MK1. It has never failed me since I bought it in 2013. I have thought about replacing my decade old radar. Not sure if it is worth it.

Last I knew "passive" Lazer hammers don't scientifically work and "active" Lazer jammers are federally illegal for good reason, because they would interfere with air traffic control
Passive laser jammers don’t work, that’s true. The federal laws ban active radar jammers though, not laser jammers.
