Makita subbases fit directly on the Metabo HPT/Hikoki. On the plunge base you will have to file off a mm at one point on the subbase to allow for the chuck lock button to fit through. Other than that depth adjustment and locking in works great. I use the Metabo HPT with the Makita 18V add ons (I have the Makita too). The Metabo HPT/Hikoki only came with a 6mm collet, which is a pity as 8mm is more handy and more readily available. Lucky for me the Makita 8mm collet fit too, but I ordered an extra collet since I never use 6mm shank bits.
I have the 36V full size 1/2" It's my new favorite tool I have the Milwaukee Fuel trim router-It's been a good runner but if it pukes out I'll replace it with green
I bought this router to leverage all of the batteries from my Hitachi tools. This is my first router. I’ll be cutting a 1/4” channel in from the edge of the wood. Can I carefully plunge or tilt the bit into the wood to start cutting?
LOVE this router and Metabo cordless stuff in general. They're all so ergonomic and lightweight.
Metabo all the way!
Good review. Interchangeable L-ion batteries with Hitachi, much quality for the money, safety switch, led, brushless motor. Love it!

Thanks. I try to keep things simple but informative.

The m18 trim is more powerful. The HPT is more compact and easier to handle

Not without a plunge base. I don't believe MetaboHPT has one for this router. They do in their 1/2in router.
Will the batteries off the other Metabo (dark green) fit this please?
No sir. Will not work. Metabo is different than Metabo HPT.
does it have a motor break?
Yes
This thing shines with a 5ah multivolt battery
