Not only we need to do this origami but also we need to write a review of the model how good it represents the actual DNA at the end we get graded for it 😭
If you need help with the twisting part: 1. make sure your diagonal creases are made well and are not overlapping the white part as he said in the video. 2.Make the diagonal creases more hard (fingernail) and lift the white tabs up more. 3. Twist first, then push together, try not to disturb the diagonal creases while doing this. 4. Try it again. 5. If this doesn't work, you can either restart, or do this: 6. Hold the paper horizontally. So its longer upwards than sideways, if that makes sense. Then take the first diagonal crease from the top in your fingers. Put the second diagonal crease in the same fingers, and keep moving down. this should make it all fall into place. Once you get to the middle, keep your hand there and to your best to do the same to the bottom portion. It'll be kinda hard, you'll have to maneuver around the white tabs which can be annoying. Stick with it. 7. If it still doesn't work then your creases are fucked. Hope this helped! Thanks a bunch, helped me with my project a shit ton! Like this so people can see! :)
Well yeah the twisting part was quite hard. I however tried a couple of times and it finally worked out well! Now I have a perfect double-helix structured DNA sitting in my room, waiting to be shown to my biology teacher tomorrow!
If you need help with the twisting part and you're just barely getting the shape, I find the best way to finish the entire twist is to fold the remaining piece of the paper in the pattern that is given. So basically, fold diagonal then straight, repeating.
This was life saver. Thank you! For those who are struggling with the twisting part, just take the print of the template on a thicker paper, where one side of the paper is glossy (just as shown in the video), it gets really easier with it.
if twisting it doesnt work (most cases it wont), just try folding it bit by bit. if you made sure all your creases are really good, it will eventually work.
For people having trouble with the twisting part, if you start at one end, you can 'step' the model together. So at one end, put the first fold together, then the next and so on so forth. It will come together like a spiral staircase until you have the whole thing together and you can start checking the folds as shown.
always funny too see a video like this and see comments from years and years ago and then make one yourself that youll completely forget about and some student in the future will see
I came here to learn about the DNA origami method to fold DNA strands in sciences. Was surprised to find so many views on a niche technique until I realized it was about normal origami :D
hi this is very useful but i hava question, the base pairing arn't all the same sizes.. is there anyway i can make one longer but with the same template or something?
if you’re doing online classes liek me , and you can’t do it. just print out the final product in the last part of the video and take a selfie holding it
@Isaac Cruz Not really lmao. I was researching ideas on how to make a DNA helix for honors bio and happened to notice that this person commented multiple times :)
This totally saved me for Biology homework due tomorrow (lost instruction sheet!)
our science teacher just gave this as a homework XD

I legit got triggered with the twisting part that I squished it completely together and threw it across the room... guess whose getting an F

I literally gave up lol

i gave up too

seriously...., follow the instructions and it virtually twists itself! Hugely satisfying, first time 'right'.
Thanks for wasting loads of my time by creating this video so my teacher can set it for homework :) BTW you have a lovely voice ;)

Yes hahaha
Thanks so much man it helped get an A+ for my bio project
I remember Batman’s voice being deeper.
I couldn't do anything! This dude starts caressing the paper and folds it into a DNA!
Caressing the paper is the first step
what kind of paper is used to print the template???

Can you just make the template?
We have the templates available to download and print on the website, if that's what you mean? www.yourgenome.org/activities/origami-dna
LainaMerryWinter print in descriptions

Can i use A4 paper for this?

You can, but A5 is the preferred choice for more accurate scale.
