His best film was To Live and Die in L.A. Epic. RIP.

Also, pardon the stickler, and these are good observations, however, the occurrence of red/white/blue broadly, as a scheme, ultimately comes from Wenders, art director Kate Altman, and costume designer Birgitta Bjerke. It’s also important to note, which may not be overtly apparent to many viewers is that the US was awash in this sort of representation in the early to mid ’80s, most prominently in states like Texas. Believe it or not, you couldn’t go anywhere without seeing these schema.

Hard agree. The film itself is fairly forgettable, but it’s damn good looking.

Noting that WINGS OF DESIRE was not shot by the great Robby Müller but rather great old master Henri Alekan is important. Henri was in his 80s and he shot many classics, among them Jean Cocteau’s LA BELLE ET LA BETE. Henri also shot Wenders STATE OF THINGS. Tonally, WOD does not look like any of Robby’s work with Wenders. ALICE (actually in 16mm, btw), KINGS OF THE ROAD, etc., generally have a crisper aesthetic. Alekan’s work is gorgeous and WOD primary filtration was Alekan’s ancient stocking that had belonged to his grandmother, matted by his gaffer.

I love all of Robby Müller’s work, but I’m so confused… Wings Of Desire looks and feels like Robby Müller, the slow camera, the beautiful angles, BUT I found out it was actually shot by Henri Alekan and not Mr Müller! Mind was totally blown!!

WOD looks and feels like Wenders. Robby and Wim were a team and came up together and established what was, at the core, Wim’s vision. Wim’s films always look like him but his strongest collaborations were with the great Robby and the great old master Henri.
