Alekan’s work is gorgeous and WOD primary filtration was Alekan’s ancient stocking that had belonged to his grandmother, matted by his gaffer.
I love all of Robby Müller’s work, but I’m so confused… Wings Of Desire looks and feels like Robby Müller, the slow camera, the beautiful angles, BUT I found out it was actually shot by Henri Alekan and not Mr Müller! Mind was totally blown!!
WOD looks and feels like Wenders. Robby and Wim were a team and came up together and established what was, at the core, Wim’s vision. Wim’s films always look like him but his strongest collaborations were with the great Robby and the great old master Henri.
His best film was To Live and Die in L.A. Epic. RIP.
