allegra kortes-miller Hi! You don’t choose what res building you’re in, you choose what room types you prefer. Some room types are specific to certain buildings. There’s info on that on the website. I had the normal meal plan this year. Food was okay, but I was getting bored towards the end. I think it’s important to switch your meals up a bit. I only spent 1/2 my meal plan, but I’ll just use the other half next year. Thanks for the support!

Ojima Ekere I think it’s pretty good! The environment is very academic, but there are a lot of ways to use your free time.

Do you think that making friends could be harder for international students? Especially when English is not their first language, like me.
Hi! Congratulations on your offer! I do not think it will be more difficult for you to make friends. There are a lot of clubs and initiatives just for international students. Also, I knew a couple of international students and they had no problem befriending people on their floor and classes.
I applied to health and life sci at mac I know there’s a lottt but from the people you’ve talked to, what do they think of it? Faculty/staff? opportunities to get involved? if they enjoy it?

Congrats! You choose them when you make your timetable which happens in June/July.
are you still following the 10pm sleep schedule? i'm still pretty consistent with going to sleep by 12 and waking up at 8 but some days i be going to sleep at like 3am 😅
and i recommend maybe being an fyo mentor in your 2nd year. i applied to be a mentor in 2nd year and became really good friends with my mentee.

I just recently got my acceptance for McMaster DeGroote. At first, it wasn't really one of my top choices but as the year progressed, I've been leaning towards it way more. I was wondering if I could personally reach out to you, to learn more about the program and to see if it's my best choice!

@@itswynette That's totally understandable!! I was wondering how you found the DeGroote Commerce program? How were the courses for first-year. I didn't take any business courses in grade 12 (accounting/finance etc.), so do you think I would be able to manage? How are the clubs/extra-curricular at Mac? Also, (if this isn't too personal) do you think it's possible to maintain a good/high(ish) GPA at Degroote, from how you or your friends are doing? @@vikashiniravitharan8203 Sorry it took me such a long time to get back to you! I really liked the first-year courses. I took grade 12 accounting and it definitely gave me an edge. That being said, you can still get a high mark despite not taking grade 12 accounting. You may just have to prioritize this class before your other ones. There are so many clubs. I've dropped into a few. I really like the fitness classes at the gym. It is very possible to achieve a high GPA. I actually found grade 12 a lot more difficult than first-year.

Hii i just recently got accepted into mac for this upcoming fall, but I would have to commute to school everyday. i guess im kinda worried that since I wont be living on res, I might be missing out on like the "typical uni life". Any tips?? loved the video btw!
Thea Chu Hi! Congrats and thanks for the support. I really did love res life and I met the majority of my friends from res. I know some people who lived on res first year and just commute the rest. This way they get to have the typical experience. I don’t know if that’d be something you’d be interested in?

Thea Chu oh I see. I still believe you’ll be able to make friends even as a commuter. Instead of making res floor friends, you will make friends at frosh, classes, and clubs. You will be fine :)

Congrats! There's a really helpful group chat called "McMaster housing" on FB. You can find lots of off-campus housing on that chat.

John Ray Hey! I know Laurier’s co-op is very attractive to many students. McMaster has a 12 month internship between 2nd and 3rd year. Both are good programs. I think it just depends on where you see yourself. I LOVED the campus at Mac and could see myself here. If you have any more specific questions about Mac, I will happily answer them.

Samuel Yeung I’m pretty sure I accepted and then chose my res. But I don’t think you need to do it in that order. Just wait for an email from them about choosing a res. From what I remember, it’s much later.
Iam trying to get into investment banking and I got into McMaster but my main choice are queens or Laurier is McMaster good for finance.
Arman Shahbazi I think Mac is a solid school for business, but I heard Queens and Ivey are especially good for finance.

I got into DeGroote for next year but I’m still deciding which university to pick. I wanted to ask is there any specific laptops or devices you recommend for business students?
Britney H Hi, congrats! I think any fast laptop will do the trick. I really like my Lenovo X1 thinkpad because it’s light and fast. I do recommend getting a monitor though. It comes in handy when doing readings. What schools are you considering?
itswynette I applied to Waterloo AFM, mac DeGroote, UofT rotman, York schulich, Queens commerce, Brock, and Guelph. Got accepted to Mac and Brock so far but I don’t want to go to Brock nor Guelph (they were backups). Currently still waiting for all the others. I’m leaning towards Waterloo at the moment but luckily Mac was my second choice (because it’s close and I live in the same city so I won’t have to pay for residence and save some money) but in the end I’ll be happy with whatever I end up at :)

Quinn Horan yep! You can either request a mentor or get paired up with one in September. The organization who runs it sent us an email to sign up shortly after school started.
