    Hi Julie, beautiful as usual..when I do pyramids with this mould, a completely full one weighs 1.2 kg.. So quite a lot of resin 😏.. Can I give you a couple of hints? As others have suggested try using a casting resin, it'll take you longer but will be worth it as it won't heat up and ruin your mould. When I do pyramids I pour onto the stirring stick. Place it in diagonal into the mould then pour onto it, it helps eliminate bubbles
    Another thing, when a silicone mould gets ruined I get silicone (the one you would use around windows) put a little on my soapy finger and smooth it into the mould.. It works 😉 💖

    Julie.. you need to use a deep pour resin and it won’t get too hot ! I’ve made them many times and never ruined my silicone pyramids!! It looks pretty!! 💕

    I'm going to make a cavity in the middle with acetate and have lights in it. That will cut down on resin as u dont see the middle and lights will give another dimension to it.

    Hi Julie! Beautiful pyramid! Unfortunate the way it stuck. Next time, use a casting resin so it won't stick.
    Anyways...
    Here's a tip for you...once you do the first layer (the tip) place a 8-10oz plastic cup in the center. You should put something heavy in the cup (I use pebbles) and then put tape across the open side of the cup and place it tape side up. This will reduce the amount of resin you need by half! An added plus is that if your pyramid is translucent, you can place lights in the cavern caused by the cup and make it a pyramid lamp!
    (To remove the cup once your last layer is cured, remove the tape and pebbles and just point your heat gun inside the cup. It will start to melt and pull away from the sides of the resin and you can easily pull it out!)

  • @LisaWyattArtMyBestMedicine
    @LisaWyattArtMyBestMedicine 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    With These big molds, you must use a casting resin made for deep molds, casting resin is a very slow cure, so it does not get so hot so fast, the resin getting hot when curing is what is making them stick

    Looks really awesome :-)
    I thought you might be keen to know some advice ive learnt from SA.
    which I'm sure you will love these
    1. Add talcum powder inbetween the outer shell and the silicone for easy removal of the two at the end.
    2. After your first few layers, place a weighted 600ml drink bottle in the centre for 2 reasons, for which you can remove at the end. 1 being you don't use as much resin and 2 you can add led lights in the centre for a really cool glowing effect. You won't see where the bottle was once removed. See some tutorials on you tube that have done this in the past to see the results before trying, then you will have a visual to be able to decide for yourself if its something you'd like to try.
    I really enjoy and love watching all your videos, your skills in creating teaching and videoing are always outstanding and a pleasure to watch. Happy Creating :-)
    Ps convert a pressure paint pot to a pressure chamber for resin, to remove bubbles, they are the best, again watch you tube on how to do. Not a vacum watch a video on why not and the difference between the two. A pressure compacts the bubbles so the human eye can't see them, a vacum explodes resin every where and leaves a huge mess and a half empty mold. Just a heads up on that one LOL. To help with sinking glitter, wait until the resin gets warm and starts to thicken then poor into your mold. These are just things I've. Learnt along the way. You can use a mold release to help too. You can also sand and polished your scratches n dents out of the finished resin piece.

    I don't know if anyone said it. I work with 2 of these molds all the time. They release easily when they are ready to come out of the mold. Do not use knives! They are not cheap molds! You should have waited until the next morning like you said you would. It has nothing to do with heat. Again, the mold is a great mold . It will release when the resin is dry enough to unmold

  • @masunshine2970
    @masunshine2970 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A thin line of brown, copper, or bronze glitter would look good in-between some of the gold colors like you did the silver on the blue pyramid.
    You need to use an office clamp on the edges so they don't buckle.
    You need to make your own mold that will fit in there.

    Beautiful colors, Julie. I had issues with my molds when the layers were more than a centimeter thick at a time. It was too much depth and created a lot of heat so there was melting and warping. And i cracked a glass dome because i didnt give the resin enough time to cool back down before adding more on top. So i waited 3-5 hours in between layers the next time. I looked more for the temperature of the layer versus if it was set. I hope maybe that info can help you on your next experiment!

    These most definitely can be sanded and polished with micromesh and plastic polish. You can also sand it and pour a topcoat over it and you’ll never know.
    I’m going to try some hairspray on the outside of the silicone before I put it in the mold holder because it will help the silicon slide into the right position and then adhere it to the sides of the mold holder to prevent the wavy bottom edges.

  • @Lsurah
    @Lsurah 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    A cool thing about symmetrical pyramid molds is they're about as deep down to the point as it is across the top of your poured resin, corner to corner. Its very pretty!! Also, since you have the hard plastic one, you could maybe make a new mold to go into it! and you can sand the resin and polish it to shiny again

    Julie, thank you for the video faults and all. I've bought this mould and thanks to your video ill not be using it in full or I may make just half of it. Either way, full or half, its an expensive project and a chance you take with this mould and one id find hard to afford too often. The amount of resin needed to fill this mould , and the time required, just doesn't warrant me making it. So thats my thoughts. Again Julie, thankyou for putting this video up, learnt a lot from it warts and all. Im constantly watching all your videos and a lot of times more than once.

That way you could put a battery operated tea light in it and it would glow. Just an idea that you could try.
