    Honestly, Rex’s hybrid armor was the best in my opinion. It takes the most effective attributes from both: the strength of phase 1 with the flexibility of phase 2. I daresay it could’ve been the template for phase 3 if things were different.

    • @LaughingCrowcorp
      @LaughingCrowcorp ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Hoggy Muscles granted I agree overall id want to wear the phase 2. and thank you for your service. But I believe full suits of medieval Knight armor were also around the same 88 pound mark and they were extremely formed to the wearer and maneuverable despite myths that say the opposite. Probably the phase 1 armor isn’t as well tailored and weight evenly distributed as perfect suits of armor from Medieval/Renaissance perioid. (Im sure the kaminoans wouldn’t care that much) but the fact the whole army is made of clones and wears the same size probably helps with the overall design fitting somewhat well

    Honestly in prolonged combat you want gear that's not going to overheat or exhaust your troopers. I think Rex had the right idea putting the most armor on the chest area. That's where the major organs that need protecting are (look at Military and Law Enforcement armor systems).

  • @bokvarv1926
    @bokvarv1926 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    If we go by in universe comments and referances to the various armors in both comfort and protection, then the winner by much is actually the Phase II Clone armor.
    If we ignore any "game stats" out there, and look at what is written and said in universe, then the phase 2 armor is designed for added mobility, lighter weight while still providing as much protection as possible.
    Also the armor suit was versitile, even the "marine armr" the "snowtooper looking" ones for the 21st Nova Corps (galactic marines) is actually a regular phase II armor with added skirts, helmet starps masks and the like, another feature of the armor was the ability to add on to it rather than later when the empire expanded the militaty machine, making "new" specialized armor, the phase II was simply a skeleton armor to add on to for all from space trooper, jump trooper, under water, snow and yes the classic marines with the "face skirt" and all,
    '
    This is why by far the Phase II armor is the best one in the universe timeline

  • @00yiggdrasill00
    @00yiggdrasill00 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Rex had the right idea, but if I had to choose one or the other it's phase 2. The added mobility, specialist attachments and comfort win out when it's already dealing with 90% of the dangers on a battlefield. At this point all I need to do is keep my head low and get on with the job.

  • @I3oo1ve
    @I3oo1ve ปีที่แล้ว +17

    With how long the Clone army was in development you'd think the armor wouldn't have needed any changes save for specific deployments like dessert, cold, and space. It's not like their weapons or vehicles changed much throughout the war.
    Rex's hybrid feels like a cop out when every other clone that got shot in a similar location dies. But then there's Thorn taking several shots in the chest with Phase 2 when Rex gets blown off his bike and injured from a sniper to the chest.

    i always liked phase 1 amour more. and there are a few reasons for that. first off i liked the look of phase 1 amour more, the fin on the helmet and the general look of the helmet is just more my taste i guess. that and i grew up with that look with the clone wars and the attack of the clones. but the bigger and deeper reason is because for me the phases symbolizes the gradual rise of the empire and the fall of democracy. when you look at the rough time of phase 2s introduction its around the same time as the army of the galactic republic became more and more like the empire. and i feel like that no where is that more telling then the gear of the clones. it was one of the first things i noted as a kid when i watched revenge of the sith. and i have just come to associate phase 2 with the gradual evil that would later become the empire. and that saddens me every time i see it because i know that order 66 is just around the corner. in short i always saw phase 2 as a step closer to the empire. and even tho i would rather where phase to if i had the choice. i still love the OG amour

  • @danielmcbride6413
    @danielmcbride6413 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think something important that he notes here is that there were things phase 2 did just as well and even better than phase 1, aside from being lighter and more comfortable. With that in mind, I think this is an example of real steel warfare principles carrying over. Irl, you don’t want your body armor to be so light that it doesn’t stop what is being shot at you, but you also don’t want it to be so heavy and uncomfortable that you can’t move as you need to. You want to find the right balance, and see if it is possible to have armor that will stop your weapons and those of your enemy while also being light enough for you to move, because keep in mind that if you can’t move, you’re more likely to need the armor. So I think it was wise for them to change the design, even if they overcorrected a bit. Aside from adding more versatility and the ability to prepare clones for space missions, they made it so clones could move more freely, which likely saved lives, and based on how blaster bolts work(according to Kyle Hill) even a thinner sheet of plastic with the thick body glove underneath should be enough to stop most small arms fire.

    Honestly, I think something of a hybrid of the two would be more ideal. That or at the very least let the clones make the changes as they need them. But that would probably be stepping on commando toes and stuff like that.
    Personally, I would do what Rex did too and just make key parts of my suit, head and chest area more durable. It won't always look pretty but if it works. Then well.

      @@TheBlueFoxOverlord I 100% agree, had the war continued further beyond. There very much could of been a phase 3 and that one. Could take inspiration from Rex's customization.
      I dare even say. If that happened we could have seen the model to be proto storm trooper armor. Like akin to what we see in Bad Batch. :D Which would be pretty neat. But thats just my take on if it continued on.
      Though if you ask me, I don't think it would have cause then well. Palp would probably slip up somewhere and well.

    In our own world, the resurgence of helmets and body armor was meant not to stop direct ballistic threats but shrapnel. Helmets still can't stop full-power or intermediate-caliber rounds (7.62 nato or 5.56 respectively) but significant progress has been made in those areas in recent years. Today's best ballistic helmets can stop up to .44 magnum. Body armor, however, is currently capable of stopping .30-06 Armor Piercing. Having made the advancement from flak/shrapnel protection to direct ballistic protection much faster than helmets did.
    If you look at American body armor over the last 25-30 years you'll see a trend of heavier and more comprehensive protection until around 2013-2015ish. During the last 5-10 years body armor is progressing more and more to streamlined and lightweight systems. See things like today's Crye JPC vs the Interceptor body armor with all of its extra restrictive plates.
    Between this and my own personal experience with body armor, lighter is better. Being able to 'hook and jab' or 'boot scoot boogie' is far more important. Lay down effective fire on the enemy so they cant return the favor.
    But not much of this real-world analyse matters in an IP where their version of cutting-edge tactics is mass wave assaults.

    But with what I know now, I've recently changed to the Arc trooper helmet.

    I like the upgrades of the phase 2, but I wish they didn't alter the helmet so much, looks too much like a storm trooper, and as Rex said, the altered visor was harder to see out of, the phase one helmet is what made them stand out from the stormtroopers that came after, which is good because stormtroopers were nothing compared to Clones, they weren't even properly trained as frontline soldiers, when the Empire started the Stormtrooper training regiment, they had the 'brilliant' idea to make clone commando's their instructor's, right have commando's trained for spec ops missions train an entire army for frontline combat, real smart move there.

    I prefer the look of phase 1. When I think of a clone trooper that is the image that comes up. Subjectively

    rex did it right with his armor, and knowing how evvective Rex was in combat, why didn't the republic use Rex's for a phase 3 for the benefit's of both armors in one

    Am still torn, but really, Katarn armor and its oft-overlooked Imperial variant are still worthwhile, especially with shields.
    Also, this video better get a sequel vid comparing them with the Stormtrooper armor over the eras.

    I like phase II paras and shrouded helms like Cody’s but I also like phase I with the colored ranks and ARCs(not the hybrid finned phase II ones)
    One thing I’ve wondered though looking at the pics you use in your videos: you pull from the movies, battlefront II and art from Star Wars Legion. So my question is what is the DC-15a? Is it an automatic heavy weapon like in battlefront or is it like a designated marksman weapon like in Legion?

    I think that if the armours were combined with all of there positives, it would be better, like keeping p1 chestplate and using phase 2 everything else like rex, most of soldiers injuries are chest wounds because of how big that area is.

    Rex's awesome Frankenstein armor. Best of both worlds. Updated software from phase 2, comms, hud, the like. Better visibility, and blast resistance from the chest plate and helmet from the phase 1 set. Lighter phase 2 armor on the thighs for better comfort. Also the comma, though only rated for protection against shrapnel, could be used instead of the phase 1 leg set.

  • @snowflake7477
    @snowflake7477 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rex's Combo is the best in my opinion but I love the astheic of the phase one armor just looks bad ass not saying the phase 2 doesn't but it looks to much like the storm troopers and I'm not a big fan of them how ever I do love seeing special units or diversified armor being worn by both clones and storm troopers it adds personality

    If the armor was so good at keeping the clones protected with other things, than it's weird how the most common weapons in the clone wars and storm trooper missions, were their weakness

    in the movies at least the only noticeable difference in the armor is the helmet but in the clone wars series you can see way more differences between phase 1 and 2 the knee and elbow pads on phase 1 are part of the leg and arm pieces but on phase 2 are separate moving pieces the also have different shoulder pads and the chestplate is cut differently around the abs and the arms

    Through out history you have people taking kits and making what you will of them. Either cause the item is more effective or cause of resource scarcity. Thus I feel Rex's kit is effective for what he learned. But you do not see others making the same changes. Look at Wolfe and Cody for example. Most of the changes made there were in the helm.

    With the comment about fans brushing off the usefulness of Clone Trooper and stormtrooper armor it remind me when people are surprised when they find military combat helmets aren't rated for most of the rounds the military uses or will be facing because the helmet not designed to take a direct blow and most places it's meant to protect against shrapnel.

    well thing is rex thougth of what would been phased 3 if clone wars kept going on and some point inspire other clones do the same or peak the Kaminoan's interest at some point due rex major improvement of his new hybrid armor got him to high ranking place at some point making them want to bring both phase 1 and 2 to phase 3 best of both worlds along with new things to stablized and improve what rex did on thiers
