He was loyal to his beloved Sultan . After Sultan death he saved Tipu Sultan beloved kingdom from bandit and thives. Serve Mysore till his death. He was not oppornastic. He was brilliant and loyal to his master and his kingdom. He saved the his master precious belonging from Britishers that shows how much he loves his master and his beloved Mysore ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I appreciate your work and thankful to you for providing some unknown and very interesting fact of Mysore king tipu sultan
keeping all the facts apart, we should keep one thing in mind that after the death of the Tipu Sultan, the whole world knew that there was no one to resist British. Purniya, did the things after the end of Tipu Sultan, was for the good of the nation because no one to lead or he himself could not lead. So I will not go for the facts that he is a traitor, because if he would be the traitor, it would more tough for Tipu Sultan to survive in presence of Purniya, like he faced the bad conditions due to Traitor Nizam, as all kind of administrative and military knowledge were well known by Purniya. Also, we did not watch him directly but sometimes things are looked like bad though those are good.
I feel, he was conscious about his role and capabilities that no one can perform his role better than him. So in the interest of people and state he chose to become practical and made peace with British. So it’s not complicated to understand him. For British next target was Marathas. And for that they wanted a stable and peaceful Mysore state. Purnia was obvious and natural choice for any ruler for that responsibility.

Fantastic analysis by you and the efforts you have taken to research and place the facts. As said, rightly, by you unless we understand those days and circumstances it's difficult to come to a conclusion. His survival was a contributing factor. Nothing wrong. His returning of the sultans personal items and keeping it away from the hands of British tilts my earlier assessment of him as a traitor towards him as a wafadar. Yet it's difficult to accept that he was very faithful to Sultan. Anyway Allah knows better. Best wishes to you brother.

Thanks brother. More people should be made aware that Pandit Purniya wasn't a traitor. There is strong evidence he was fighting against the British till Tipu died. His decision after his master died can't be called betrayal.

Mir Sadiq Nawab was the Minister of Karnataka. When Haider Ali conquered Karnataka, he also appointed Mir Sadiq as his Diwan. Because Mir Sadiq had betrayed Nawab Muhammad Ali Khan.
Similarly, Purnia also remained loyal to Tipu Sultan as long as the Sultan was prosperous. When the sultans lost half the kingdom. So Purnia and Mir Sadiq greeted the rising sun and betrayed Tipu Sultan.

The things you mentioned - Tipu Sultan's blood-spattered clothes at the time of his death, the tasbih and the Quran were all displayed for public viewing in the summer palace in Bengaluru in 2009.
These were displayed only for five or six days.
I saw them.
Besides these three things, a number of equally interesting items like Tipu Sultan's personal pistol, sword and the book with his handwriting in old Kannada were displayed for the public.
I was lucky to have gone and seen all these.
Yes, the newspaper reports of that time said the same thing that you did - that Tipu Sultan's clothes and other items were in custody of Purnaiyya's descendants and these were handed over to the government in the 1980s.
But you did not mention the reason for this.
Why did Purnaiyya's descendants suddenly decide to hand over Tipu Sultan's personal belongings to the government after keeping them for almost 200 years?
The reason was a curse. Purnaiyya's descendants suffered from illness, accidents and tragedies. Every generation suffered. They were advised by some holy man not to keep Tipu Sultan's personal belongings with them.
Therefore, they handed over these items to the government authorities.
It is said that the curse stopped after this. Tragedies in their families which were regular, stopped.
Another item which amazed me was Tipu Sultan's revolver. On enquiring with the guide, I was informed that it could fire five bullets!
A revolver made in Tipu Sultan's kingdom in the 1790s which could fire five bullets!

But how come u saw revolver with 5 bullet capacity...
Because in sultans time only blunderbuss and Flintlock guns were used and that too with one or two musket balls as bullets...

No revolver during Tipu's era. He used Pistols, flintlocks and blunderbuss for hunting expeditions & also mounted them on camels using a swirl. The one he owned can fire twice while the conventional one can fire only once. This was seen as a technology marvel. That guide had simply misguided you. The lady at the Banglore summer palace showed me a mirror and said that was used by Hyder Ali. It was a Saint Gobain make :p
Purniya was a great oppertunist and also a farsightdness person. He should not be called traitor, as he has done well after getting his designation .
