"Empty Nest" is set in Miami and tells of the day to day misadventures of a widowed pediatrician, Harry Weston, and his two adult daughters, Barbara and Carol Weston, who have come back to live with him after failed marriages. Much of the humor is derived from Barbara and Carols' ongoing attempts, and failure, to find the perfect partner, and once again leave the "nest". There is also the skirt-chasing next door neighbor, Charlie Dietz and Harry's southern nurse, Laverne Todd, unique for her unbelievable Hickory stories. Empty Nest is an American sitcom television series that originally aired on NBC from October 8, 1988, to April 29, 1995. The series, which was created as a spin-off of The Golden Girls by creator and producer Susan Harris, starred Richard Mulligan as recently widowed pediatrician Dr. Harry Weston, whose two adult daughters return home to live with him. The most likely reason the sound was muted toward the end is that the song being played for the dance violated someone's copyright. I've seen that happen on other videos.

I think it was good Barbara stood up for herself when her boyfriend just wanted everything convenient and easy for himself, while she needed to speak her mind.

***va L*** This was a particularly cute episode of this show. I remember this episode from when “Empty Nest” was on originally. Remember the question from the algebra homework? It was about a family with four brothers: there was the youngest brother, the next older brother was three years older than him, the next older brother was six years older than him, and the oldest brother was nine years older than him. The total ages of all of the brothers was 38. What were the ages of the brothers on their last birthdays? The answer to this math problem is: 5 y.o., 8 y.o., 11 y.o., and 14 y.o. My inquiring mind wanted to see if this math problem was actually solvable. It is indeed a shame that the sound cut out on the last two minutes of the program. I remember a fairly happy ending from when this show was on the first time around. “One day the girls your age will really appreciate you. It will happen.” Or it was words to
that effect. Yes, most of us like happy endings, especially on a sitcom. Actress Kristy McNichol is only four years older than actor Michael Stoykanov (spelling?) and that is a small age difference.

There is an answer to the Parker Family algebra homework question. The question posed was there were four brothers: the youngest, with three older brothers, each brother being spaced three years apart. The sum total of all of the brothers ages is 38 years old, so what were the brothers’ ages on their last birthdays? The answer is: 5 y.o., 8 y.o., 11 y.o., and 14 y.o. On a side note in real life, actress Kristy McNichol and actor Michael Stoyanov are only four years apart, which isn’t very much at all.
