I have always been struck by Mr Gosden’s honesty. In a world increasingly overrun with big fat fibbers we’d all do well to listen to John Gosden to remind ourselves what an honest man sounds like. Humility and compassion and his genuine respect for horses were never more apparent than at Ascot in 2011 when Nathaniel won the Gold Cup. In that race the Goldolphin runner Rewilding broke down. Somehow the horse regained its composure and found its way to the finishing post in a very harrowing scene for everyone who was there. As Rewilding was settled, I remember that it was John Gosden who was there at the end comforting and feeding him “ a pick of grass”. And anyone who looks equally as dashing in a baseball cap, a beanie, a top hat or a trilby can only be described as having that all important quality - class. Many happy returns John.

Soft to heavy ground is being forecast for Sunday at Longchamp which will suit Enable right down to the ground. She's always shown she can be hard as lard when it comes to running in a bog. Take into consideration also that the two horses which looked like they could potentially be the biggest threat to Enable will not be in the field, which were Godolphin's Ghaiyyath and Coolmore's star filly Love. I think the race is now Enable's to win or lose breaking from stall #5. The rest of the 3YO in the race would all have to improve by a street on their form to date to beat an at her best Enable, so if I had to point to who I think could be the biggest danger to her left in the field now I would look no further than her stablemate Stradivarius. He's most definitely been at his best over staying distances, and while some think 12F may be too sharp for him, he's always shown a pretty killer late turn of foot in his own right, at times looking more like a 6F sprinter than a stayer in the closing stages. So if the plodders on the front end setting the pace should misjudge the fractions and get the field all strung out, it's definitely possible Stradivarius could pick up the late pieces and pull a surprise with Olivier Peslier in the plate. If I had to take a shout at a long shot in the field I would probably go e/w on Persian King. The horse just doesn't seem to ever run bad races, and while the distance is still an unknown for him, having yet to race beyond the 10-1/2F/2100m in his Prix Du Jockey Club 2nd, he did get that trip and was just run down in the final 200 yards by the very talented and capable Sottsass. Coupled with the fact that I don't believe a master trainer like Andre Fabre would run him in the Arc just for shits and giggles unless he really thought Persian King was capable of seeing out the 12F Arc trip.
