These are great tips, but it’s difficult to visualize with the pictures of grander entryways. For modest homes, there are narrow entryways or you’re just falling into the living room or kitchen. I would love to see more practical photos instead of the “Architectural Digest” style homes.
Lisa please show the entry way of just a normal 3 bedroom, 1 lounge room home. Very few of us have the grand sweeping staircase, or double doors entry. Most of them have kids, dogs, there will be no calling cards announcing the arrival. We would maybe like to think that this would be great, but realistically!!!
These are lovely entry ways but many houses don't have grand entryways. How would you style a small entry or an entry for a split level home where you have a small landing pad with stairs going up and down. I would love the history you provide and the examples but I would love to see how to implement in many types of entries.
I lived in a house with split foyer design. Hated it. You open the front door and are immediately faced with either going up or down stairs. There was no room for even a tiny stool. No wall space for hooks.
When I lived in Monterey years ago, I had exactly this type of home. When you opened the door, you hit a wall and the stairs ran up/left and then down/left. You always saw this little bare landing. I placed a rich looking narrow chest of drawers there and a fabulous table lamp with a mirror behind it. Would keep a gorgeous vase with either stargazer lillies or branches etc. Because of the lamp and lighting, everyone who saw the little landing or came in seemed so fascinated by the little display. No space for a bench tho-- guess you could tuck it under just a console...
I live in a bungalow - the front door opens directly into the living room! I've done my best to hang coat hooks and have places for shoes, but it's a small room and a small house so there's a lot of non-entryway things going on there too (TV, piano, toys...) I can't think where I'd put a mirror and I DEFINITELY don't have room for a little table or plants! I guess the upside is that you're already in the middle of the house when you walk in, so it's only a few steps to the dining room table and if we have flowers on that table they are in clear view when you walk in the door.
I just bought a tri level....its a small hallway that has a loving room to the left, the stairs to the right slightly further down the hall and then the entry to tue kitchen a few more feet ahead...i guess i should just get a nice ceiling light that's modern and a nice rug🤷🏽♀️
🤣😃😁I totally agree. My Entry way is very narrow. Those Entries looked a bit unrealistic ,not forgetting the $$$$$ those furnishings cost.It would revive my whole house.Mercy
If you don't have a constructive comment then it would be best just to move on to something else. It takes a few seconds to leave any kind of comment but a long time to put together a nice presentation.
My small house has no entryway and the front door opens directly into my living room. Can you talk more about creating an entry space in a living room?
Mine too except I have double front doors and a rectangular shaped living room...long and narrow and super-awkward. :( But when you open my doors, you're looking directly at a wall of built-ins and a fireplace...beautiful room - just no "real" entryway!
@@caseyl2313 😉Before you groan about ugly flat pack furniture, IKEA has several different shallow shoe cabinets w/tilt drawers,〰️range from more modern styles to more traditional. 🔨Some hang on a wall, while others are meant to lean on it (over your footboards). 💲They are affordable. My daughter has a small, thin console table immediately to the right of her entry door. They use it for keys , mail etc ( random lego, or dinosaur may make an appearance) to the left of the door she has a small tasteful bench where they remove their shoes, above the bench are hooks on the wall to hold outerwear, hats and in today’s world face masks. There is a basket at the far end of the bench where shoes are kept. It looks stylish and functions for their family of 4, with 2 young boys ( ages 5 & 2 ) I hope this helps!
Thank you Lisa! I love these grandeur entryways. Most of us in a normal home, BUT I’m always looking for inspiration and ideas to make my place look more expensive. Designers did hotel entryways, so it’s easy to copy some furnishings or looks for an instant lift! That’s also why we watch your videos-to get the designer’s perspective!
I’m so glad I found you!!! I’ve been taking your advice ever since I found you. You’ve helped us make wise decisions with decorating our new home from paint, shapes of furniture, styles, color schemes, themes, plants, size of furniture, etc., etc., and now entryways! My husband would watch your videos with occasionally and he was happy for me because you, your personality brings such happiness to the room and especially me. He just sadly passed away, unfortunately and I want you to know, Lisa, you were a great part of “our” lives and trying to make our “home sweet home”
Lisa, great entryway segment. It would be a lot more helpful if you provided more small space examples. A lot of us don’t even have designated entryways in our home. Still waiting for Part 3 of Window Coverings, specifically blinds. You have me in suspense. Love your energy and style.
I’ve never lived anywhere with entryway space to speak of, but this video does provide food for thought. I mentally went over each space, including the home I grew up in, thinking about how the entryway could’ve been “better”. I love all these informative videos!
Marnie!! I am so happy that you enjoyed this video!!! 💛 Think of your entry space as the first impression of your ENTIRE home to your guests, whether the "entryway" is like a living room or even a kitchen!! 🤗 Thank you so so much for tuning in this AM - so glad this gave you some insight on how to improve an entryway space!!! 👏🏼🥰❤️
I just love your energy and how passionate you are in your work and especially your sense of humor. There’s always something to learn from your videos! ❤️
Judith!! I LOVE hearing this - I am so glad that you guys are enjoying the videos just as much as I love making them!!! 🙈 I absolutely love this community - I don't know what I'd do without you guys!!! 🤩💕 Thank you so much for this sweet comment and tuning in this AM, you just made my entire morning!!! 🥰💜😘😘
This entryways blowed my mind... they are beautiful, and they are soooo big. Now I have a complex, because whole my apartament is smaller. All I could insert in my one-and-a-half-square-meters entryway is a mirror! And I did it! And it works!
S!! That is a GREAT approach - it's always good to know your space!!! 💚👏🏻 SO glad you caught that little 90s joke - isn't my editor funny?? 😂😂 Thank you SO much for joining me for some entryway fun this week...so glad I could share a few tips!! 🥰💙
I love that you don't edit out your errors! It shows you're human and can laugh at yourself. You never fail to bring a smile to my face. You know, a grand entryway is the first way a visitor gets to meet you and your style. Everything in our home means to much to us. My own style veers toward grays, marble, some black/white, a sedate and restful palette with small shots of color here and there. My hubby is all about warm wood, tans/browns (I call them various shades of dirt). He is far too opinionated when it comes to furnishings, I'm used to men saying, "Go ahead, get what you want". Not him! Having some decor ideas that appeal to both cool- and warm-toned lovers would help a great deal. It took us quite a while to find some great rugs that include both grays and tans that didn't break the bank! We liked it so much we have an 8x10 in the living room, a 5x7 in the entry and one in the reading nook and a pair of matching runners in front of the sliders, oh and one more outside the sliders to act as an entry mat. Your style tips are perfect and never fail to make me imagine something bigger, better and, sometimes, more colorful!!
Diane!!! Things can get pretty nutty while filming, sometimes I just get in such a giddy mood!!! 🤣🤣 Your hubby sounds so hilarious, I am so glad you guys found a good compromise with the rugs!! Funny enough, couples budding heads on design styles are actually pretty common - I will definitely talk about how to compromise this issue over on the Dezign Club!!! 👏🏼❤️ It is launching THIS August and it's going to be PACKED with tons of resources and even more design tips and tricks!!! 🤩 Make sure you are early to the party and sign up here www.lisaholt.com/thedezignclub to get ALLL the details about the launch!!! 💖 YAYY thank you so much for this sweet comment, I am so glad I could help solve your design dilemmas!! 💕🥰❤️
I will forever appreciate you Lisa Holt. You've helped my family a lot, since the pandemic till now your advices and lessons are inspirational and helpful to us. My husband and I have been able to be minimal, conscious in spending, saving and lnves, ting wisely. We have been able to earn on a weekly basis and it helps the family a lot. You're such a blessing to this generation. We all love♥️😊

Agree - sent kids to college and moved from a big villa to a neat townhouse. Getting rid of things, respecting negative space and letting the flow of life take it’s time have been my lessons so far. (As in, I’ve changed my kitchen curtains three times before I’m finally happy. You can’t always tell what works until you’ve lived there a while)
Yes please please! Same… kids out grandkids now sold family home & downsized to a luxury apt w amenities. BIGGEST 2 QUESTIONS MANY IF US HAVE: HOW TO MAKE GUEST BEDROOM INTO MULTI PURPOSE ROOM (My Office, maybe a trundle bed?? & play area for grandkids… do I walk off w bookshelves or screens to separate areas or PLS HEEELLLP!). But… adjusting is difficult w rules & builders grade off white carpet & walls, white trim, blinds, smaller kitchen & bathrooms, etc. … need help with some ideas. And really? No area rugs huh on the carpet? (Watched every video you’ve put out & love ya!) Trying to keep tone on tone, very simple w no clutter & combine a few mid-century modern pieces w earthy things… like lots of real plants & warm woods. Id love to incorporate some more black like switching lighting/faucets etc ti matte black but need HELP? I did buy a live edge table w black resin & black west elm wood chairs have Grey low profile sectional w concrete legs) but ??? Love new Japandi style & think I could easily swing that way? still w HELP since I’ve not gotten past items listed. White Floor to Ceiling linen type curtains black rod seem a must not dark correct?
Related to that for me would be: How to create the sense of an entryway in a small house, where the door simply opens directly into the small living room. I need to come up with something that serves the ‘entry hall’ purposes (place for keys/mail/purse/bag/remove coat in winter) until I’m ready to proceed into the rest of the house. I moved from a house of over 2000 sq. ft. with an attached garage that led into a mud room, into a tiny 820 sq. ft house with street parking near the front door. (Unwanted divorce...stupid...but here I am...) I’ve played around a little, but...it’s just barely working. Help? Edit: I should have clarified that I’m now in a small, Midwestern village RENTAL. 😆 So I can’t count on the landlord being down for me to ask for/put in a can light...chandelier would be out of place...God forbid, the Boob Light.... You just open the door and there you are in the corner of a 10’ x 15’ room, looking at two love seats, and a chair and a half (plus end tables and lamps of course). Oh and farmhouse kitsch...😂 Just no. This is a rooster-free zone. Anyone feel challenged yet??
I was so excited to see this topic. I just got my new house completed, and am super proud of my entryway. Even though it's a tiny 6'X6', I have made it super glamorous. I have placed the best and most expensive chandelier of the house there, super beautiful wallpaper, and super glamorous laminate for the floating drawers (for the dog leash, masks, sanitizers etc.). And the hooks for the umbrellas are beautiful golden leaf-shaped ones. All in all, the most beautiful space in the house. Feel so validated! Yay! I got this one right! I don't even care that I'm bragging!! :D
OMG this sounds like a FUN entryway!! 💖🤩 I love what you did to it and how you're so proud about it!!! SO glad that you could check all the boxes about your newly renovated place and that you are LOVING the results!!! 👏🏼YAY thank you so much for sharing this and for supporting!!! 😘✨💗💗
@LisaHoltDesign Hi, I just found your TH-cam channel, and I'm so excited! "7 Steps to Creating Magical Entryways" was the first video I watched, and it inspired me to create a sweet entryway for my 574 square foot apartment. I had several great items floating around in my space (e.g., upholstered stool & lift-off-tray side table) that I repurposed for this project. Then, I finished the entryway with a table-top plant, white marble heart, lighting, hooks, and a mirror (all reflecting my design style as recommended). Thank you so much for the great ideas! I can hardly wait to decorate for the upcoming holidays 🌲♥
I love to see images of different homes as I use your channel for inspiration not to copy and paste. Some really good ideas I liked around colors and placement for flow. Keep inspiring with great content!
Absolutely love you! ... Your ideas, your voice, your personality, and your great sense of personal style (love the bracelets, watch, hair and clothes!) 👍
So very helpful. Some folks are complaining that the photos don't show athe verage/small spaces that most of us deal with, but the design principles still apply. I got a LOT out of this video!
CRUSHED IT AGAIN LISA ! You need to have your own show on HGTV… loved the history lesson on entry ways … my mom always called ours a vistibule ?. Love from sunny Florida ☀️☀️☀️❤️
I LOVE hearing that you guys can tell how much FUN I have with this channel...making these videos and getting to chat with you guys are the best parts of my week!!! 😘🌟 SO glad I can share a little bit of the design love - thank you for the kind words Laura!!! 🥰💚
You know what I love about you. You appreciate every singel style and show examples of everything even though not everything is everybodys taste, or even yours. Thats true love of interior design. Not just loving your own specific style but recognizing every style had its own beauty. Plus your personality is so natural, warm fun and cozy❤️ Just wanted to let you know☺️
I watch 99% of TH-cam videos in x2 speed (idek why maybe it’s adhd maybe it’s a style statement) but I absolutely love the natural pace of your videos, the way you present things is just brilliant
You have NO idea how honored I feel Sophileh!!! 🥰🥰 I am so glad you can stand my goofiness in these videos, I can be pretty nutty at times!!! LOL!!! 🤪🤣 Thank you so much for this super sweet comment, you just made my entire day!! 😘☀️💞
Hi Lisa! The way my mind works, I have a much easier time remembering a story, than a list. This video really provides me with a great story arc, and I just know I will remember every important step. Thank you, I can't wait to watch more of your videos. I really appreciate your effort and teaching style.
Mimi!! This is so wonderful to hear - I am so glad that the flow of these videos really helps you understand the topics!!! 🙌🏼 I always listen to you guys and strive to improve my videos any way I can so this makes me so happy to hear this!!! 😝💗 Thank you so much for this nice comment and for supporting the channel!! 🤗💙😘😘😘😘
Thank you for all the energy you have. It makes me want to do things differently. Getting my house ready to sell. I want to make it look a home. So the little things to invite the buyers. Love your ideas.
Yay! After (in fact, WHILE) watching your ideas I decided to do something about my entry and Was lucky to instantly find a beautiful wooden second-hand sideboard for a few quid! I fetched it and threw out my ugly large old leftover "nowhere else to put it" lowboard. When my kids came home from school they actually gasped at the transformation of the entry hall! It looks so beautiful - the difference the right piece of furniture in the right place can make is amazing! Also, the hall seems bigger. I love it! Thank you for being such an inspiration!
LOL, your video editor kills me, they are hilarious! I love water closet-type bathrooms for the same reason - you can really go big style-wise in smaller spaces. Luxe materials become more affordable because you only need small amounts to make a big impact.
Melody!! SO true - I am soo glad you really enjoyed this video!! 😍🙌🏼 I will definitely pass along the compliments to my editor, I have the BEST team ever!!! 💁🏼♀️🌟 Thank you so so much for this sweet comment and for being part of this AMAZING community! 🥰 Truly doesn't go unnoticed!!! 🧡😋👏🏼
It took me five years to come up with a look for my entryway. Lots of things have transpired over those years. I lost my mom, and had thoughts of scrapping the makeover to move away from near where she lived. I had huge sums embezzled from me. And I've taken on other distractions. But finally, the inspiration has come. An atrium vibe, with pops of black window frames & a black bird cage against white walls. And since the hall is narrow, only a wallpaper mural on the wall will do. It's going to be magnificent!
This was a FANTASTIC breakdown of the elements of an entryway! You made it simple, in my brain, do- able and I’m really excited to just incorporate a few of the elements until I buy fancier stuff!! Thank you Lisa! I am a super big fan of yours I can’t wait to join the design club!
Thanks. I can see where my style can be incorporated the entryway. And understanding the history helps me better see how our entryway can be updated to modern day life and use-case.
Whoever edits your videos is great, I love the little comments they put in the video like the "floatsam & jetsam?". Maybe relax on the soundeffects a bit but the overall style is so entertaining.
I would love it if you would do a video on different ways to style your back yard with umbrellas. I am in need of some shade back there, but a more permanent structure is not yet in the budget.
Lucy!! Have you checked out my video about outdoor spaces?! I cover 9 EASY tips to upgrade your outdoor spaces for the summer!! 🦩☀️ Hopefully that will give you some insight on this topic!! 👏🏼💕
@@LisaHoltDesign Didn't catch it. Can you post a link? I am specifically interested in what looks best with one of those large umbrellas without making it seem like everything is crowded in underneath it to maximize use of its shade. Thank you! With all the other projects I have going, that's the best I can do to expand the space a little. Plus, once summer hit, lining up a really solid, reasonably priced contractor to do back yard work has been like pulling teeth, so I've focused on other things.
I would love an outdoor video for bad climates. It all looks lovely ... until it rains ... I also see a lot of videos with outdoor furniture that will have to be moved indoors or thoroughly covered over winter, and that really doesn’t help
@@katarinawikholm5873 Yes, I had to move my outdoor furniture off my back deck, and down into my basement for the winter. Knowing that task would be coming, I intentionally bought relatively light weight pieces, so the task was easy, and didn't take long. The outdoor umbrella I bought today could be more of a challenge to get down there, since it is so tall, so it may have to spend the winter under my covered back deck. Always good to measure before buying, but I needed the umbrella, and got a good deal on it.
Uma!!! SO glad this was helpful!! Definitely add some life by adding plants - it will go a longgg way!!! 🪴💗 Thank you so much for this sweet comment and for being part of this AMAZING fam!! 💕🥰❤️
I love your videos! You pack a lot of information into them - basic info that you layer advanced, cohesive (learned the importance of that concept from you, thanks) details onto so that novices can get things right. Your years of experience and level of mastery really come through. Many thanks for your gifts to all of us. You bring joy and beauty into my life and I suspect into many others’.

Hi Lisa. I'm with you on all your comments. Your examples of stunning room styles takes me back to cable tv shows. I have a Cape. I would love you to come to my home to get your advice on wall paint and lighting. I also need advice on where to move my up and down staircases that are in two different locations, ideas about adding a garage and a back deck, and install a new chimney and fireplace. The staircase and front entry plans are my only major problem. As is. I have displays of small collections to keep my home interesting, but the layout is not very practical. Where the front and back door are creates a diagonal pathway which I found frustrating where to place my furniture for a nice look. I want to finish my 7 layers of decorating, but I hold back until I fix the layout. I loved your comments on entryways. I have a spacious vestibule that is all white, with vinyl oak flooring to match my real red oak floors inside. I have a good floor to ceiling mirror on one side and then hanging space on the other. There's even enough room for a small chair, and a pedestal table suitable to have a vase flowers on top. I wish you could offering Zoom call appointments. Do you follow the 20/80 rule on merging decorating styles?I do, with either accessories or furnishings Thank you.
Ida!! ❤️ SUCH a good question...check out my video 5 Easy Design Tips for 2021 for some of my absolute FAV decluttering and organizational hacks!! 🤩💕💕 LOVE that you're thinking about what YOU need for YOUR space - thank you so much for watching!!! 😘💙
Hi Lisa - I admire your enthusiasm and your nouse! Clearly you have travelled and seen some fabulous styles abroad and in New York. :-) These folks like myself who are keen on design and style and have small homes however, simply cannot work with these grand mansion ideas. How about homes which have you literally walking into the living room the minute you enter the space? No room for dividers - Treatments for short walls and tile coverage and shape layouts for small entrance spaces would be really helpful. Ie. the use of larger than 12" x 12" ceramic tiles for smaller entranceways - is it effective and what is best quartz or slippery marble on entrance surface as some of us live in snowy winter regions. Any case the video was great. Thanks so much!
Thank you! I absolutely adore your channel. You have the most delightful presentation style, so upbeat and charming and always great positive ideas. Channels like this make TH-cam great!
I’m so happy I’ve hit all the marks in this video . I really struggled with my terra cotta colored tile in my entry UNTIL I changed my mind set and embraced the architecture like you mentioned. I was able to bring warm neutrals in like I wanted and threw in a couple of cool colored entry doors for a pop of color. It all came together when I quit obsessing about the floor color and just accepted and followed the flow. Love your channel and so pleased that I found you! ❤️
Nettie!! SO glad you could relate to this video - I love that you just embraced the architecture and did what YOU wanted to add in!! 😇 Thank you so much for sharing this and supporting the channel - THIS is why I love making these videos!!! 🥰🙌🏼💛
For my very narrow (122cm) corridor I desperately wanted to hide all the coats and shoes so I used a narrow PAX wardrobe with mirror doors. Two in one! But thanks to you, I know that in a little space I’ll add a TINIUS stool and it will look perfect! Incredible how much I learn from your videos! Thank you ❤️
I just got back from a killer bike ride. I turned on TH-cam to relax a while and found this video. Up and down my steps I went to find an anchor chair. Moved a few accessories around and my entry way is looking more welcoming. After 2 hours grinding gears in the south Georgia heat and humidity, YOU got me moving once again! I call THAT true "inspiration"!
OMG Emily, SO funny that you were actually taking my tips LIVE!!! 🤣❤️ Hahah!!! I'm glad I could motivate you to help spruce up your entryway!! 🥰 Now get some rest from all that hard work and exercise!!! 🙌🏼😴💙
Beautiful entry ways.... But for the average home owner we do not have this large of space. I have a small entry way...approximately 12x12 with one wall that has a full length coat closet that has become over burdened with every ones stuff. I want to get rid of the closet.... and change the look completely where it is very welcoming. French Country mix with Equestrian , Ralph Lauren Look, Mirrors, Settee, etc. I have no mud room so the husband and kids take off boots here and I need to hide them in a cabinet of some sort.... the coats on a visable coat rack and another way of hiding gloves and mittens.( Thanks for the suggestions on this video ) I want this room to be elegant, over the top serene glam. What would you suggest and do you have a video of before and after entry ways? I am thinking of a repurposed cabinet/ buffet that has space for the Husband's boots, drawers for other outdoor attire/ mittens, gloves, etc. Thanks again so much.
I really appreciate the historical references to the development of the entry way. A little foot note to add is that Frank Lloyd Wright utilized a cozy low ceiling entry way that would make the impact of going into the main open living space all the more dramatic. PS I must be doing something right because I've incorporated all 7 of your rules. Keep up the good work.
James!! You know I LOVE sharing history in these videos - isn't cool to see how much design has evolved?!?! 🤩🙌🏼 Must me a good sign to know that you have all these rules - great job!!! Thank you so much for watching!!! 😊💞💞
As always, thanks for the inspiration. It is good to know the rules, check my elements against them. I dream of Michael Taylor entryways. I'm working with a windowless, narrow Edwardian era entry (12" wider than the rest of the hallway). There is oak flooring; a green/butter trellis runner, pale "butter" walls; a large, rustic basket tucked under a dark wood demi lune; a tall, beveled mirror with scallops and pediment and a crystal table lamp to bounce light. It all looks best when there is a full (crystal) vase of flowers on the table.
YAYAY I LOVE when you guys get inspired through these videos, it means SO much to me knowing this!!! 🙌🏼💕 Thank you so much for all the support Lynda!! 🥰
Thank you Lisa for giving the guidelines. Grand spaces with big budgets are fun. Everything is new or perfectly refurbished in beautiful colors. How do you create a lovely space with what you have? Or as you downsize. Regardless of budget or personal style. That’s what is most helpful and interesting. More examples of that would be great.
Love LOVED this Lisa. All great tips and breaking it down simplifies it so well. I remember (LONG ago) when I thought I needed WAY too many things going on in my entry. As you would say "WHAT WAS I THINKING!" Coming across you and your vids have not only entertained the cr@p out me but made my decorating life easier! Can't wait for August!! Thank you Lisa!!
Lisa ... I loved this entry way advise its so important to help people be comfortable. I Love the mirrors that reflect light and flower arrangements ❤️It’s I think one of the most important areas to set the stage for the whole home! Don’t forget the mud room /garage because I needed a spot for keys 🔐 and shopping 🛍 bags, changing shoes etc. An entry for myself from pulling into the garage! Utility room for homeowners .. at least here in California 🧐🛍🏡👑

Hello everybody! How are other apartments in Europe?! Here , in Germany we are lucky to have a rental with a small entry way in 100m2 apartment where I tucked two armchairs and a small coffee table and we have an incorporated library (with place for shoes and coats )where I change the design pieces from time to time …Lisa, as always a very interesting video, I would also like to see more apartments design:)
Hi to you in Germany.I am originally from Hamburg but live in the USA right now.You said it all..My brother is still in Germany and goes through what you are saying..So true
Hi Lisa - I didn’t realize how much history defines the entryway. All lovely suggestions. I too have small space. Constantly rearranging to get the most out of it. My front door opens right to my kitchen table. A real challenge. Am I on all your list for the Dezign Club? ?Great show🌸🥳
Tutone!!! Always love seeing your face in the comments!!! 🥰 Thank you so much for tuning in!!! If you have sent me your email here www.lisaholt.com/thedezignclub , then YES you are signed up!!! 👏🏼🥳 It's launching THIS August and I am SO EXCITED about it!!! Thank you so much for the endless love, truly means the world to me!!! 🤩🌎💚💚
I have a wall with electrical and plumbing cupboards in my hallway, so I hid them behind a textile folk-scandi hanging by a local graphic designer (Gudrun Sjödén) and added a bright yellow stool and a big zz plant. Kept everything else toned down or quietly matching the statement and left it at that. (Ofc I was lucky - my hallway included a 10ft high mirrored closet and a port hole window architecturally - not much else was needed)
Lisa:I am your admirer. I like your way and content a lot. Thanks for sharing your fantastic knowledge with us. Please keep showing solutions and or samples with ideas so we have the principles and then the practical part. thank you
Please please comments guys! I LOVE to hear what you are thinking! BTW.... the Dezignclub is launching end of Aug beginning of Sept! So I have a question... launch around AUG 27th or wait for our Labor Day holiday to end and launch around the second week of Sept???? NEED YOUR BRAIN POWER!
I would say September. Not only does it seem a bit odd to start by having it once then skipping a week, but also because September is full of new beginnings (I’m a teacher so that’s probably why I think that). I’ve been known to have a New Year’s Eve party on August 31st! Plus, it gives you more time to get more issues ready.
Thank you for all your great tips! The rooms of my apartment here in Germany were never perfect and I never knew why until I binge watched all your videos. I implemented a few changes and now finally have a beautiful home!
Love you Lisa!!!! I already have all the elements you mentioned but I think I need to work on the style statement aspect. I might need to swap out a couple of things to punch up that style like maybe a sexier mirror! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Raya!! SO glad you already have these tips applied!! 👏🏼 There's always room to upgrade a few pieces here and there, go for that sexy mirror girl!!! 🤩💁🏼♀️🤍🤍
Ahahaha i loved the little Fifth Element reference you snuck in there! 😜😂 that’s one of if not my favorite film of all time! Lol ... this was very helpful as usual, i’m still working on my garage studio/bedroom/multi-use space/ idk-what-to-call-it lol, & I definitely need to get some rough weatherproof rugs for shoe wiping to cut down on how much dirt or dust comes into the space, & a runner or two. I’m actually quite pleased with the nearly 9 x 12 rug I got from Home Depot (went with the Abigail Britta midnight, i think its a really beautiful pattern check it out, only thing id note is the color in person is much brighter/lighter/more turquoise than in the online photos, but I dont mind & still find it overall restful & peaceful to look at which is what I wanted. i got the 8x11 & it was only like ~$150 all total inc. S&H I think i got a great deal!) & your older video on rugs was one of the most helpful to me for that process! Thanks again! 👍🙂
Greetings from Greece! I just adore your videos. They are so informative and helpful.Lisa you re so fun to watch. I was thinking if you have any points on gallery walls am kind of thinking of creating one with cinematic theme on my entryway instead of a mirror. Could i incorporate the mirror in a gallery wall? U know what maybe you could do a video about them (how to guides, matching styles etc). Love love love u!

I am trying to convince my husband to install grass cloth wallpaper in the entryway, but he has dreaded memories of the old days where it was hard to peel this stuff off the walls. I believe it has changed? Any ideas or thoughts on this? How are corners handled now with wallpaper? (I don’t want to wrap it around. I want it to end at the corners)
@@rick9876p i am considering some removable wallpaper ... i've seen some really nice ones ..can be removed easily when one wants a 'change ..i'm renovating a tiny shack...lol..
Thanks for a really helpful video - I'm moving to a new apartment in a couple of months and will, at last, have some space to do something with an entryway. So this has been excellent timing.
Ohhh CONGRATS on the new apartment, how exciting!!! 🤩💕 Great opportunity to have a fresh start to your life!!! 👏🏼 Hopefully, this gave you some great insight on how to design your new entryway!!! 🥰💜🤗
Jamilia!!! SO glad you found this to be helpful!! 💖 I love showing visual examples because I feel like it makes what I'm talking about easier to understand!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Thank you so much for this kind comment and for being part of this AMAZING fam!!! 😘💛💛
Thank you, Lisa! I’m a big fan of form and function; things must work as well as being beautiful! There are so many cool ideas here, and I loved the history lesson and the editing. Really fun! I’m still on the fence about the whole taking your shoes off custom. I find it very uncomfortable to walk around without some sort of footwear, and I want my guests to be comfortable. I mean, would you take off your heels if you were going to a dinner party? Or, if it was winter and you were wearing galoshes, would you bring your indoor shoes? I’ve just moved into a beautiful two bedroom apartment with a generous closet in the entry. Really looking forward to making it shine. So, I ask you, again...where to put those wet galoshes..? P.S. I vote for a September start to the Design Club. Fall always seems like a perfect time to go back to school. Really looking forward to it. 🥰
Hi. Ikea, for one, has a shoe tray for drippy/dirty shoes. I have mine tucked under my pie safe in the entryway. I'm from a culture [island] where people don't wear outdoor shoes in the house. Most people have a basket of various-sized house slippers for guests to wear in their home.
Small space lover here & am lucky enough to have a micro entry. I thought the plant idea excellent but it’s way too dark and floor/surface space is a premium. Would a wallpaper with greenery or botanical prints work?
I would love an entryway. Our front door opens in to our 11 x 17 living room & you can see straight into our bathroom from the front door. Not sure how to change it & be happy with it. Any ideas?
Hang a portiére (Victorian curtain over the bathroom doorway, or 60s style beads strings or bamboo covering the bathroom entrance. ) Or paint the bathroom walls an impressive color, or incredible botanical or whimsical wallpaper. What was the architect thinking!

Thank you Lisa for another great and informative video! LOVE the history lesson, and the way you addressed all the elements of design. Classy and quirky as ever you hit the mark for me!
Carol, you know how much I LOVE my history lessons!!! 🤓 I am so glad that I can be informational to you guys while having loads of FUNNN with it!!! 🤗Thank you so much for watching AND for being part of this WONDERFUL fam!! 🤍🌟🤩
I don't believe I have ever lived in a place that actually had an entryway. It's always "open the door and we're in the living room"! And no room to put a bookcase/screen between the door and the rest of the room.
LOL Ann!! 💕💕 I totally get that!!! 🌟💚 You definitely don't need any sort of grand entranceway to make some of these tips work - in fact, part of not fighting your architecture is not trying to cram too much if your space won't allow it!! 🤩🤩 Having a few racks for coats or a little bit of greenery as you enter your home can make a HUGE difference regardless of the space you're working with...you've totally got this!!! 🤩👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you SO much for tuning in and leaving your candid thoughts - I ALWAYS love hearing from you guys!! 😘😘

These are great tips, but it’s difficult to visualize with the pictures of grander entryways. For modest homes, there are narrow entryways or you’re just falling into the living room or kitchen. I would love to see more practical photos instead of the “Architectural Digest” style homes.
So would i
I would too!
Same!
Ours falls smack dab into our cozy kitchen lol.
Lisa gave us a lot of choices, even for small entries. 9:13; 10:00; 11:11;11:13; 12:49; 12:50... Plants, tray, mirror, bench or chair; ligthining;
Lisa please show the entry way of just a normal 3 bedroom, 1 lounge room home. Very few of us have the grand sweeping staircase, or double doors entry. Most of them have kids, dogs, there will be no calling cards announcing the arrival. We would maybe like to think that this would be great, but realistically!!!
exactly!
Worse yet, those of us who live in APARTMENTS, and NOT the fancy schmancy NYC type, but middle America style! :-(
YES, totally agree!
@@missellienora Exactly the same here, always a challenge!
I just bought a tri level....its a small hallway that has a loving room to the left, the stairs to the right slightly further down the hall and then the entry to tue kitchen a few more feet ahead...i guess i should just get a nice ceiling light that's modern and a nice rug🤷🏽♀️
The only magical thing about those entryways is that they are the size of my whole apartment...
Bigger than my whole apartment.
Our house isn’t much bigger either!
🤣😃😁I totally agree. My Entry way is very narrow. Those Entries looked a bit unrealistic ,not forgetting the $$$$$ those furnishings cost.It would revive my whole house.Mercy
I Said the same thing 🤔waw
If you don't have a constructive comment then it would be best just to move on to something else. It takes a few seconds to leave any kind of comment but a long time to put together a nice presentation.
My small house has no entryway and the front door opens directly into my living room. Can you talk more about creating an entry space in a living room?
I think Julie Khuu had a really good video on this too!
Mine too except I have double front doors and a rectangular shaped living room...long and narrow and super-awkward. :( But when you open my doors, you're looking directly at a wall of built-ins and a fireplace...beautiful room - just no "real" entryway!

You got it! I'm glad you found some helpful ideas.
I like Lisa's positive and enthusiastic comments. She embraces so many styles and adds variety to design.
Oh thank you!
Great, but agree with previous comment that it would be helpful to gets some ideas for those of us whose front door opens to the (small) living room.
Hey Cat! Yes, I talk all about how to create an entry in my small spaces video (the most recent one) Hope this helps!!! xoxoxoxo

Hello. I'm trying to find the video
Lisa, great entryway segment. It would be a lot more helpful if you provided more small space examples. A lot of us don’t even have designated entryways in our home.
Still waiting for Part 3 of Window Coverings, specifically blinds. You have me in suspense. Love your energy and style.
I have the mirror, the bench, the closet, the rug, good lighting and the 🪴 I think I'm good Lisa! Thank you!

This entryways blowed my mind... they are beautiful, and they are soooo big. Now I have a complex, because whole my apartament is smaller. All I could insert in my one-and-a-half-square-meters entryway is a mirror! And I did it! And it works!
Glad you did it. Glad it worked!
My entryway is so small that “less is more” feels the most comfortable. And that’s OK! Love that Fifth Element reference 🤣

How to create the sense of an entryway in a small house, where the door simply opens directly into the small living room.

"Make sure that rug screams your style" is my new style tip direct from LH!

This is the absolute BEST kind of comment to get...I am so honored to be a part of all of your design lives!!! 💚🥰 There is nothing more fun for me than using all of my experience to help YOU guys improve YOUR homes - I try to make these videos as helpful as possible!! 💕👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you so much for just making my DAY with these kind words...you guys are the best!! 🥰💙
Hi LIsa, great ideas! I was hoping to get more info on how to store tons of shoes that clutter the entryway. Thx.
It’s like you read my mind! I’ve been wondering what to do with my empty entryway for the last couple of weeks
Wow, talk about perfect timing!!! 🤪😂 LOL hopefully this brought a lot of insight on what to do in your entryway!!! 🤗💙💙💙
@@LisaHoltDesign so helpful!! now I know where to start and what to look for! Thank you so much!!
Great video. Would like to see how you would style long, thin hallway from a traditional Irish bungalow. Not even enough room for a sideboard ☘️☘️
Thank you ❤️
YAYY I am so glad that I could help out with your entryway dilemma!! 👏🏼❤️ Thank you so much for watching and for all the constant loveeee!!! 😝😘💚
As always another brilliant and enjoyable experience 😊
William!! ALWAYS coming through with the kindest comments - thank you!!! 👏🏼💕Thank you so much for including me in your Saturday AM plans!!! 🤗🧡🧡
Lisa - an entry way into a small apartment with a dark narrow hallway would be great
I enjoy watching and learning from you.
Have always had a “last look mirror “ in my entry 🥰
As always, thanks for the inspiration. It is good to know the rules, check my elements against them. I dream of Michael Taylor entryways. I'm working with a windowless, narrow Edwardian era entry (12" wider than the rest of the hallway). There is oak flooring; a green/butter trellis runner, pale "butter" walls; a large, rustic basket tucked under a dark wood demi lune; a tall, beveled mirror with scallops and pediment and a crystal table lamp to bounce light. It all looks best when there is a full (crystal) vase of flowers on the table.
Lisa you are full of ideas and fun!
YAYAY I LOVE when you guys get inspired through these videos, it means SO much to me knowing this!!! 🙌🏼💕 Thank you so much for all the support Lynda!! 🥰
Excellent presentation with design principles to follow! No mountain of kicked off shoes allowed in foyers!! LOL
I'm moving into a small apartment and I will need a lot of help Thank you !
Top video Lisa. I learnt a lot. I've got a decent sized entry to set up, and your tips are just what i need. Thanks!
This is awesome advice! Any tips for folks with enclosed porches? Would you treat that as the entryway, or the entryway as the entryway ;D
OOh, so great an idea, I was thinking about porches this morning, yes, they're part of the experience, I'll add that to the list of videos!!!! xoxoxo
Yes I'd set up porch as entryway.
Victoria!! I am so happy you loved all the advice I touched on!!! 💖 It's definitely a must to have a GORGEOUS space to put all your things down after a LONG day out and about!!! 🛍 💁🏼♀️ Thank you so much for watching and for alll the support!! 🤗💕🌟
Thank you, Lisa, for another wonderful video. You have inspired me to put some thought into revamping our entryway!
OMG I am so glad I could inspire you to revamp your entryway!!! ALWAYS here to help solve your design dilemmas!!! 🤍🌟🤩

Great job as expected Lisa! May I ask, what source is the apartment @ 0:48 from? Really hits my style button....thanks again!

Fantastic as always Lisa thank you so much
“Flotsem n jetsem” LOL. I love your videos for awesome design content and your real, true to life funny character! Keep’em coming!!
Karen, I appreciate that! xoxoxo
Love these but I own a split level and cannot do much with entry way. Love the history behind entry ways.
That sounds awesome..
Hehe I like seeing Gudrun Sjödén get referred to as a "local graphic designer", like she just has a small indie shop on Andralånggatan ;)
@@lsamoa Lol sorry. I phrased it as suited the wider, largely American audience, and my bias shone through.
Either way, reading it
I would say September. Not only does it seem a bit odd to start by having it once then skipping a week, but also because September is full of new beginnings (I’m a teacher so that’s probably why I think that). I’ve been known to have a New Year’s Eve party on August 31st! Plus, it gives you more time to get more issues ready.
The earlier the better for me …..eagerly waiting 😎
Second week of September ... 🥰
@@LisaHoltDesign Sexy is the name of the game 😍😂 oh yeah.. after the reno, I’ll have some sexy sconces there too 😍 can’t wait!!!
I live in a studio apartment...how do I decorate when my living room and bedroom are in one room?
Thank you Lisa! Great ideas! Would you consider before and after videos?
Ahahaha i loved the little Fifth Element reference you snuck in there! 😜😂 that’s one of if not my favorite film of all time! Lol
... this was very helpful as usual, i’m still working on my garage studio/bedroom/multi-use space/ idk-what-to-call-it lol, & I definitely need to get some rough weatherproof rugs for shoe wiping to cut down on how much dirt or dust comes into the space, & a runner or two.

Can the bot do design? Put the bot to work. J/k I bet that was stressful but your clients & fans probably knew it wasn’t you.
no worries. I'm glad you all are back and are okay.

Can clutter count as a gallery exhibition/art installation in entryways? XD
😜

YES! YES! YES!!!!!
Absolutely! Lol.

@@Lili-xq9sn I appreciate your response. Thanks a lot. 😊
Wonderful tips and informative video. The examples are all lovely for inspiring me to envision different ways to change it up. Thank you Lisa!
YAY glad it was helpful Adriana! 🥰🥰 Thank you so much for all the love, it truly doesn't go unnoticed!!!
@@LisaHoltDesign Awww that's sweet! I'm glad you chose this as your career. It doesn't go unnoticed, either. 🙏😃
Small space lover here & am lucky enough to have a micro entry. I thought the plant idea excellent but it’s way too dark and floor/surface space is a premium. Would a wallpaper with greenery or botanical prints work?
Jenny, you bet! or you could try a tiny one from my Plants video, either way! xoxoxo
Would a climber work? Maybe a shade resistant pothos, with a plant light on a timer?
Excellent bontanical wallpaper idea, no need for a real plant I think.
What a great video. A brilliant merge of style and function. And I loved the history lesson (from which our functional context comes).
I would love an entryway. Our front door opens in to our 11 x 17 living room & you can see straight into our bathroom from the front door. Not sure how to change it & be happy with it. Any ideas?
Try using a folding room divider! There is beautiful ones available today! I recently got one on Amazon for $130 and it's gorgeous.
@@sydneyw8834 Thank you for the idea.
Hang a portiére (Victorian curtain over the bathroom doorway, or 60s style beads strings or bamboo covering the bathroom entrance. ) Or paint the bathroom walls an impressive color, or incredible botanical or whimsical wallpaper. What was the architect thinking!
@@Lili-xq9sn These are track houses they built in the 50's for people who built railroads so they were probably putting them up quickly & didn't care what room was placed where..
