    The British Spitfire is one of the most iconic fighter aircraft of World War II. Most famous for its role in the Battle of Britain, the Spitfire served as Britain's primary fighter during the entirety of the war. The Spitfire combines graceful lines, eye-watering dogfight performance, and heavy firepower in its later variants. For DCS World, we are happy to bring you the most accurate and realistic simulation of the Spitfire LF Mk IX ever created.
    The Spitfire Mk IX was originally developed as a stopgap measure as a response to the appearance of the Focke-Wulf FW 190A.
    The Spitfire IX is powered by the Merlin 66. This engine produces its best performance at slightly lower altitudes than the older Merlin 61. Spitfires equipped with this engine were designated LF Mk IX. This was the most numerous version of the Mk IX, with 4,010 produced. The majority of Mk IXs of all types used the standard "c" wing, which would often carry two 20mm cannon and four .303in machine guns.

    This may be my favorite module so far, and that is saying something!! Very happy with what ED and their partners are doing, can't wait to fly this beauty.

      Certainly my favorite WWII module. She really is a joy to fly and a monster in a turn fight.

    Hey Wags as always great video. Been into DCS now since BlackShark which I believe was 2010, my DCS steam hourly count is now around 1260 Hrs there is something about your voice it is very calm and always to the point. P.S. I love the bear trap campaign level 1 were you are taking the new recruit around the circuit in the F-15

    One observation if I may. During the startup video, you had that air filter ON. In the take off video it was OFF but I did not see you turn it off in either video. I was looking to see what the filter position should be in flight. Obviously off, but I did not know which handle position; I fly VR and you can't see the label. Handle backwards, got it. I think I flew with the stupid thing on and reaching 20K had some kind of engine malfunction. Frozen intake? Carb ice? Not sure, but it resolved itself as I went lower.

    Awesome module and some nice landing there to. My only negative is the armoured glass not taking into account refraction, maybe one day someone will model it into a flight sim.

    The in-game tutorial does not say to maintain pressure on the brake while taxing and taking off if memory serves me correctly. I wish my friends and I knew about this video when we bought the damn thing. We spent all weekend along with numerous crashes to figure out you had to drag the brakes a tiny bit to get the rudder controls to have any impact on turning. I finally figured it out last light. A buddy figured it out over the weekend but the way he described it wasn't very helpful to me. I think the description of "keep a ting bit of pressure on the brake while rolling on the ground" paints a clearer picture to someone new to the model.
    Additionally we figured out that we *HAD* to make sure that our X-55 deadbands were set well. Finally, a lot of "curve" needs to be tuned into the rudder control. Even in flight it is far too east for a tiny bit of rudder to cause an undesired slip. While maneauvering recovering from the slip is deadlier than causing it. It is like a rubberband effect. Cause me to get into a spin a few times. IRL, I guess that is what flight instructors are for :-)

    Very nice, are we going to get a livestream at some point?
    Also would be nice to see the landing and/or other maneuvers from a 3rd person/ground perspective so we can hear that Merlin roar :)

    • @MattWagner
      @MattWagner 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Perhaps, but we found that the lives streams did not really add much other than the extra drama.

    What does he say?
    3:50 One full rotation to the right. Right forward (??) just a little bit.
    7:21 Once rolled out use a ??? throttle and attitude and adjust the airspeed?

  • @symie8

    Have you modified the axis controls in any way for the rudder? I can take off but it’s really untidy! Just wondered if you’d changed anything on yours. If not then I just need to get new pedals.
    Nice vid as always Wags.

    • @EagleDynamicsTV
      @EagleDynamicsTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have you tried adjusting your curves for your pedals, some tweaking might be needed to get them where you like them. -NineLine/Norm

      @symie8 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eagle Dynamics: Digital Combat Simulator - had kinda hoped that if you had set curves then you would have shared them with myself, just as a platform where to start from.
      And thanks for the reply.

    ...and not one word about the "takeoff Assistant" settings.

  • @Blablablabla1ify
    @Blablablabla1ify 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do away with the straight approach for touch down? Or in other words, what's the point of the fast, low approach, climb out and 360?

    • @speedeemee
      @speedeemee 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two reasons. First, in a combat scenario, if there is an enemy aircraft trailing you that you don't see, it will give the anti aircraft gunners at the airfield time and opportunity to fend it off. Second, it keeps some loading on the aircraft. The Spitfire is inherently unstable, and by keeping a continuous turn, you are less likely to upset the aircraft.

    Why is the airspeed in mph?

    • @Red-Magic
      @Red-Magic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Geo Biery Because. It will make things easier, actually, so if you're on TS3 with someone, and you're in a Mustang and he's in a Spit, you both will have the same unit type.

      Because that's what the British used during Ww2 and what the Air Speed Indicator was in the real aircraft as well.

    fuel indicator doesnt seem to work

    • @FoxMikeHotel
      @FoxMikeHotel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      roteroktober420 it works, you have to pres the button near it to make it display your fuel level (yes that's kinda weird, brits always have to do things differently even if it's less efficient)

    • @roteroktober360
      @roteroktober360 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      are you realy sure, that its like that? cuz such bugs occure more often in dcs and where did u read that its normal in the spitfire

    • @FoxMikeHotel
      @FoxMikeHotel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure it should be like that, but in the module you have to click to display the fuel quantity, that's what the label that is shown when you get your mouse on it says

    • @roteroktober360
      @roteroktober360 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      just because it says that in the manual, doesnt mean its true...

    • @FoxMikeHotel
      @FoxMikeHotel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      did I say that at any point? I just said how it works in the module, you asked I told you, you're welcome...
