    Thank you for explaining I just upgraded to my own truck with swift. My mentor did not teach me anything, but a few here an there. Plus this was my second mentor I felt all he could think about was team status that his pockets were going to be even fat. When I got on his truck the first night he fell asleep all because I knew how to drive an read my trailer. I still don’t know how to accept loads basically he failed me for more money.

      +Cleon Gionet (BigCle Make sure you know what the weight limit rules are. Find out about pilot cars in each state and where you are required to use them. Always measure the load height nothing is worse then taking a 13-9 load under a 13-8 bridge. The one rule is ignorance of the law is no excuse. If you mess up it can be costly. Good luck.

  • @shawnwalker8281
    @shawnwalker8281 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How about getting rid of the 70 hour rule. What would make it easier is a 13 hour day. It would consist of 11 hour drive, 2 breaks that consist of 30 min each and a pre and post trip. In return there is no reset ever. So a driver can drive everyday if he or she likes. And with the 13 hour days you get 7 hours extra of sleep a week. So no sitting at a truck stop for 34 hours. The driver clock would be so much easier to keep up with. God knows we have enough to deal with.

    • @TheRightBrotha
      @TheRightBrotha  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      🤔🤔 something seems a little off with this. The log is so companies can't take advantage of drivers as well.

    • @shawnwalker8281
      @shawnwalker8281 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheRightBrotha I am not saying do away with the log. I am saying as long as you take your 2 breaks and do a 30 min pre and post trip and drive 11 hours a day then you can drive every day of the year if someone wants to do that. I am not saying let the companies take advantage of you at all, always get your time off when you want it. This is for drivers that stay over the road for weeks at a time. Those drivers don't have to stay in a over priced truck stop waiting for the clock to reset.

    Very cool - I don't know if your famiiar with truckingtruth,com but they have a free programmed learning system for studying for CDL learners permit and other info as well. I'm currently going through the logbook section which shows this and how to understand it but seeing the actual Qualcom and some one explain it really helped me to put the theory and practical together, Thanks for the video. I'm definitely watching it again. I'm thinking of going with Swift- main reason being free cdl training and they're the only ones that actually responded to my inquiries and have showed any interest in me. Gotta get some experience somewhere. Thx I like your vids- since i'm knew to this I'm always looking for real world visual explanatory vids that show what you guys really do. ------------not just rambling bull#### ------- not to say thats all bad - just saying it's nice to get some usable knowledge once in awhile!

But just rolling last weeks day ahead to midnight makes it easy. And I feel a lot better knowing I have 2 logs going. Can I ask how you do your paper log? do you just copy the elog or how do that work? can you make a mistake on paper and get screwed?

    HA HA HA HA LOL!!!!
    I drove between 1989 and 1999.
    Paper Log book. I ALWAYS had three running.
    I always made sure that I had one of those logbooks able to be shown if checked, and with the drawing of one timeline it was legal. I once drove from Chicago to Phoenix only stopping to eat and fuel up...non stops 37 hours.
    I would not drive now if I had too, silly rules, DOT, and GPS crap.
    And what now? Live Camera fed of the driver 24/7?
    HA HA HA....NO WAY.
    Good Luck man.

      some reason it gets real confusing, say drive 11 hour within 14-hour days... normally our days get 12-hour not 14hr. But somehow I got it now🤣🤣🤘.. It sound like driving 11 hour and take 10 hour break and do 30 minutes d o t and 30 minute break and then back on the road again will that 11 hour drive again and then take the 10 hour break all over again and so on.

    Without a doubt, this is the best breakdown of this annoyingly confusing rule I've seen. Thank you. Question: During the 34 hour reset, how much of it has to be spent in the SB, and do you get paid at all during this time?

    • @TheRightBrotha
      @TheRightBrotha  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Joe Fitzgerald it all can be in off duty. and no you dont. that's why b people try to be under a load when they take a 34.

    • @jtf3983
      @jtf3983 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      On a matter unrelated to the video, I just watched a video that says trucking company recruiters will promise you the moon when trying to get you, and sometime between signing on and starting on your own, half the promised pay evaporates, the equipment ages a few years, and available miles disappear like a fart in the wind. Does this seem like something that would apply to most companies, is it a lie, or have you found any companies that stand by what they say? I've had a class A for 3 years, but am just now trying to put it to real use.

    • @dawnarmstrong5468
      @dawnarmstrong5468 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Joe Fizegerald from log manager. ALL dot breaks must be logged legal. This means, when you are off duty, you are saying you are not in the sleeper but away from the truck doing nothing work related. If you are logging sleeper you are saying your body is in the sleeper. All clocks reset once you have reached the required DOT break by logging off or sb status. What interrupts any DOT break is on (on-duty not driving or driving). The exception is if you are split breaking, this means you are example; driving 6 hours, take a 2-hour break, drive 5-hours, the SLEEP 8-hours. that 8-hr split break MUST be spent in the sleeper! first thing to logging rules is your logs MUST be true and accurate for the full 24-hour day. If you are logging by the minute, it must be true and accurate by the minute.. Logging 1-minute for fuel is a false log. It's common sense no one can fuel in 1-minute! Log how long it takes you, and you should NOT have a problem. :)

      You can take it before your 8th hour, but at that point it is mandatory.

    Great information. I think I have most of it, but I'm still scratching my head a little. If your day starts at 1am as an example, but can't pick up a load until 5am....what do you do? Drive to the shippers and then go off duty until the shippers open?

      depending on how far the shipper is. you can just go off duty and sit till its time for you to go. so if your 60 miles away from the shipper. and your pick up time is 5am. your 10 hour reset at 1am. your truck can only do 62 MILES per hour. you will need to leave at 330am. so you will go from sleeper to off duty from 110 am to 315am. Give your self 15mins for pre trip and get to the shipper at 430-445am. Always be early . If your on time your late. hope that help...

    I’m on my 34 hour reset now. Why is my graph on off duty half orange and half blue ? Did I mess up my reset ?

    If you go on-duty (ON) or driving (DRV) after a 10 that starts your 8 & 14-hour clock. The 8 and 14-hour clock will count down 1-minute every minute until you have taken the required break to rest the clock Example: I go on-duty at 12:00 am. 5.30 hours later, I take a 30-minute break, the 8-hour clock will count down until I complete that 30-minute break. Once I complete the 30 minute break the 8-hour clock will reset to 8-hours. It will not start counting down again until I start a driving or on-duty status of 1-minute or more (company setting might differ). Same thing with the 14-hour clock, the only thing that will reset that clock is a 10-hour consecutive break (off duty 10-hours, sleeper 10-hours or combination of off and sleeper for 10-hours, just make sure you are logging when you are away from the truck as off duty, and sleeper when you are in the sleeper)).

      +Dawn Armstrong 🤔🤔🤔 if ur 5 hours and 30 mins into your drive shift. You will only get 5 hours and 30 mins back to drive. That equals 11 hours of drive time. Nonthing stops the 14 hour clock from tic'ing. Except at 8 hour "sleeper berth" in which case you will get back the "hours" you didn't use with-in that current 14 hour shift. Or a 10 hour sleeper/off duty. Where you will start a new 14.

    How were you able to pack your clothes when riding with the mentor? I assume it probably won't be alot of room if any. Will a big duffle bag be enough or just a small carry on?

    • @TheRightBrotha
      @TheRightBrotha  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both I say. One duffel bag for your clothes at least about 2 weeks of clothes. they will give you a little cubby hole to stick your stuff. And then a small bag so when you go shower you will need to put your toiletries and your fresh clean clothing in. so yeah duffel bag one small bag and you should be good to go
