    You mentioned RNs, but LPNs can also change suprapubic catheter .

      True, LVNs/LPNs can switch out SPs.

    The right-hand exchange didn’t cause any contamination. I do this too when I switch out SPs. Watch her again carefully. She does the switch over a sterile field. Het gloves remain sterile, the catheter remains sterile and the tubing remains sterile. Nothing touches anything that isn’t sterile during the switch.

      Absolutely not. I do SPs and I also do this hand switch. There’s no contamination. Watch again carefully, the gloves are sterile, the catheter and tubing are sterile, she works over the sterile field, everything remains sterile during this exchange.

    There’s no way a fenestrated drape can be used, I don’t use one. I used the plain one.

      Why would cauterization be needed? What would be cauterized?? There are no blood vessels involved in this procedure and a cautery isn’t part of our equipment.
