Notes from the composer; "You can hear a clip from this track in one of my other small games Robot and the Cities Who Built Him"
The factory is named xy and what they produced is named "Product Z". The world turns "3D" after this chapter and x, y are the axes of the 2nd dimention while z is the axis used in the third dimention. Nice touch
Wow someone passed 8th grade
TommyTom21 When I actually played the game for the first time I was very little (6 years old), so I didn't get the reference. Replayed the game some days ago and felt somehow like I discovered America
@@bigshrekhorner I was joking anyway lol.
So I am r/wooshed? That's embarassing

It's shame how this game has no awards for having such a good ost.
At least this game was recognised around the world
at least it won best indie of 2008 or something
@@wandering4104 it is one of the best Wii games on earth so that’s something (that isn’t even a joke and it has some of the highest scores on metacritic depending on the version)
While the Game Awards are a thing, do they even have a “best soundtrack” award?
@@toubi4316 yes actually
All the screaming in the background makes more sense if you realise that this song was originally used in a game called "The Robot and the Cities that Built Him", where you play as the titular robot and wreck havoc around the cities. The bastard then popped up in Little Inferno, but sadly forgot to bring this sick track with him.
that game really was downright creepy
this music doesn't help at all
*wreak havoc
Nah it was made for WoG first, RATCWBH came in the middle of wog’s development
nice and positive song about children playing
Randomlollis It's not positive...the children are burning
Sarcasm people.....Sarcasm....
Randomlollis XD
Damn this is a dark game
Damn WTF
The whole song sounds like the factory is trying to sing. The low parts and drums sound like machinery chugging along, and the high parts almost sound like creaking metal. The drums keep moving from ear to ear; it sounds like you’re in the heart of the factory, surrounded on all sides.
Can’t forget about the ambient wind and fire noises, and of course, the screaming children. In short, this is when the game gets *dark!*
that's a great breakdown of how the sound really works for this song, thank you! you put a lot of thoughts into words for me
Wow I didnt even realize that the drums move from ear to ear. That's a really cool detail ngl
It really sounds like the greatest technology is being presented and literally, a big ton of people came a few days before the presentation of the new technology/product.
The child screaming sound more like their playing in a playground.
@@therealmaggiemae nah, it sounds like burning childs
This game was so scary when i played this as a kid. From the animation to the visuals, the music, it all was terrifying to me. I see games in a different perspective than others sometimes and found this game way too unsettling when I first played it.
The game always felt so... evil.
It starts off with the normal world of goo gameplay and i didn’t ever think much of it, but as the story went on it kinda disturbed me more and more, but i never stopped playing. The idea of a big corporation preparing for this “project Z” and you were witnessing it trough the perspective of the player it gave the fear of the unknown for me, the corporation always felt like it had bad intentions. And some puzzles combined with the sad songs really sticked with me, and seeing the “burning man” have his head slowly turn as the music went on was really uncomfortable to look at and on the sides there were two more of them, but without heads and with just a burning flame instead. I don’t think I never actually beat that level, i probably wouldn’t have had the courage for it anyways. Once you get to the Project Z level where you light up the big Z and the huge gun pointing at the sky slowly rises i knew something not good was going to happen. And then the cutscene played. The gun fired up at the sky and the big green projectile flew out of the planet and just.. Stopped. When i first saw this i had no idea what it was but when the people who were watching it unfold said:
“what is that?”
“It looks like its growing”
I started to fear what it was. I was starting to experience the game as if I was one of the people watching it happen, then the green cube in the sky started to fall towards the planet again and everyone started panicking and screaming, and then silence. The green cube had wrapped itself around the earth. When the game transitioned from this unique art style to this green virtual world it felt like the world wasn’t right anymore. The area where you tried to create a tower as big as possible was instead of being this gray, dull and dark place, it was turned into this happy cartoony virtual area which felt so fake-positive and deceptive. The music in it sounded so happy aswell but not in a good way, it was too happy.
The entire world turned virtual with the last level ending at the recycle bin, which i never reached as a kid and only got to it when i was older.
But i did meet MOM, and the way the concept of building your way up to MOM not knowing at all what awaited there made me almost desperate to get up. The music also made this feel really emotional and i felt sort of attached to MOM. When i eventually reached it i never got trough the questions thing as i never realised what i was asking about and was just clicking everywhere, i was just a kid so i didnt know what i was doing and that is why i never got to the recycle bin. I think i started to even belive that was the end of the game. But it wasnt really a disappointing “ending”
for me for some reason.
Idk if you find this extremely weird or dumb but this is how i experienced the game as an impressionable kid and how it sort of scarred me. I do not regret playing the game though as it is a fantastic game if not one of the best games i’ve played.
Also i wrote this at 2:40 AM also so yeah
great read. I can't say I experienced it the same way.
I never really looked at the story elements, nor the art style, as scary. I was young, I didn't get it. Playing back the game now, the game really is fucking terrifying, especially looking at the story tidbits. I kind of wish I could have gotten that experience, too. but eh, what can you do.
I loved every PIECE of this so much.
i have no idea what possessed me to beg my parents to buy me world of goo when i saw it in a target in 2008 (i was 6), but I'm sure as hell glad that I did. holy shit i played through it with my dad the first time and i don't think i understood what was happening but i loved it. I checked every year to see if there was ever gonna be a sequel :(
still revisiting the soundtrack and viewing gameplay nearly 13 years later. the levels with screamer and burning man stuck with me the most i think. They both sound so oppressive and dreadful, combined with the crackling of the flames in several of them (burning man, you have to explode the head, upper shaft) actually made me feel as if i were next to a fire irl
It's such a good game man
i was literally crying by world 2
Dude this was profound
This Factory has Fire...
This Factory has Screaming Children...
This Factory has Explosives...
This Factory, has GOO!
I like how you put "..." in the end of the phrases but in the last one you put "GOO!" like "with goo everything is fine!" or to say that goo provokes all of that

hello clugchat
For me, this song gives the exact vibe of a live event revealing something like Product Z. So good.
THIS! This is the one that made me look at the game! This is the one that made me realize how dark it really is.
This is the one that made me buy the game yesterday, after so many years, and play it.
And this will always be my favourite...
I wonder why people like dark, morbid stuff so much. I don't understand.
@@2020Twenty it's dramatic and interesting
@Ruseau that doesnt mean he cant comment his opinions. What? A comment is still a comment.
Enjoy World of Goo 2 my friend!
I get the impression that people are trapped in a burning factory here.
A game forgotten in time
Maybe the world needs to remember it.
And maybe the world can be saved.
Not it isnt forgotten
Some people move on but not us...
_Not us_
with you, there.
BUT 2D BOY DIDNT FORGET 🔥🔥
When I was little and heard this, I was thinking "Wow, this really fits the theme of the factory with those screams in the background." Then I thought later that they could be cheers because it is the launching of a new product. But now that I listen to it here, I know that I was right before and that those are screams of terror
Just with this song, you can make a warning message about industries and pollution, the strings are telling the gravity of the situation (almost sounds like an alarm), the guitar represents the metal sounds, the drums represents the working machine, and the childs noises are here to tell they are playing outside, breathing polluted air. That's how I imagine the scene.
This is so much better than the in game version. I instantly hot chills once the guitar started rolling in. 10/10
So this song isn't actually in the game?
@@pundertalefan4391 Nope, a shorter and a bit remixed version is used in the game.
That distorted guitar(?) is just the best shit. Juice it, hook me up to an IV bag full of it, and I will die with a happy embolism.

I used to listen to this theme and a lot of others from this game while playing Dark Souls (all of them). This is amazing for the fiery areas of the games. Beautifully haunting stuff.
What an odd game to have such haunting, atmospheric music. But then playing it, it fits. Unique game.
You gonna play Shadow of the Erdtree?
This is definitely a factory I would want to stay away from.
This is by far my favorite OST in world of goo, it shares its balance of fear and hope, light and dark, loud and silence. Its just beautiful and leaves a massive intensive boundry.
I love the guitar on this one, it’s really somber but it’s so cool
This is what I like to call "Industrial Horror"
When I was a kid, this track used to really stress me out. It feels like it's freezing at -40, and it's night outside and you're home alone. It's an unforgettable effect.
this feels like new year's eve at the end of the world
that is quite literally the next track on this album
I played this game when I was extremely young. I don't doubt at all that it changed my life, and I'm eternally a very artistic person.
Almost 17 YEARS OLD. Holy shit..
Out of context, this made me imagine an evac scene where the focus was on a couple of soldiers walking through the panicking crowds while spotlights from the helicopters pass above during the cold snowy weather.

I honestly just think it's kids cheering and waiting for Product Z to come out. The factory is spooky, yes, but no children are being harmed.

Thanks for bringging me back my childhood memories! It's been so long I haven't seen or heard about this game! Life was so peaceful back then..
I would give anything to see my childhood again. .
Now things start to get much darker and more dystopian as the corporation reveals the extent of the dark depths they’re willing to sink to. Cog in the machine is also a phrase used to describe a feeling of being a means to an end, so it’s a fitting name for a song that highlights the dark side of industry.
Yep
I cant stop listening to this song! It bring a strong feeling of impending doom! It's crazy how powerful a song can feel. There was so much emotion put into this song. I'm thinking of so many cool horror short films this could fit with.
This is the song that reads the impending finality of life.
I never played this game. I remember it had good reviews backjin the day. But remember finding this song year ago and it is so haunting. It’s the sound of an unstoppable industrial monstrosity. Not just a machine but a system, slowly but surely it will devour everything.
This sounds like the apocalypse set to music, the "guitar" sounds like a siren going off, the horns and strings are ominous, and the general ambience is slightly unsettling.
While this whole game (and soundtrack) is great, I think it's at its best in Cog In The Machine.
The atmosphere of a factory fits perfectly with the music accompanying it, the levels have such a bleak and mechanical look, and the red goo balls have a fun and interesting mechanic.
It also helps that these levels aren't impossibly hard, but not being too easy at the same time.
my dad used to play this game a lot, until now I never even remembered it existed. thanks for jogging my memory
