Fun fact: The DQ1&2 heroes are consistently shown to not know zap spells. This is due to zap not existing in DQ1, and the DQ2 hero being the only hero who has zero access to magic. Because of this, they essentially contribute nothing to Gigaslash. On an unrelated note, the hero class in DQ is generally an all around class whose only flaw is that they're somewhat slow. This is carried into smash, as Hero can do *a lot* of different things but has pretty slow frame data and movement. Edit: DQ5 Hero also never learned the Zap spells, meaning only 4 of the seven Heroes that show up in gigaslash actually contributed something. Edit 2: DQ9 Hero also never learns zap, but does learn Gigaslash.

Even going so far as to the original cast of Smash being highly different. Even Link wouldn't be unaffected. Heck, most series of games you have come to love probably wouldn't even exist in the same form if at all. Dragon Quest is just that ridiculously influential. And one last thing. Joker is very unlikely to exist if Dragon Quest didn't.

I’ve never played a fire emblem game before but I feel most of the FE cast are more swordsmans than they are adventurers or “heros”. I feel like they put more technique and precision in the swing of their swords than the force or strength behind it.
Despite Smash already having several RPG characters since the first game, Hero is the first one to actually play like a RPG and that's why i love his addition to the game.
I feel like most RPG character have some sort of RPG mechanic, such as Marth's counter, Robin's weapon durability and Cloud's Limit Charge, but then there's Hero, who's just all of it rolled into one... er, four
Hard to believe that people were mad over a brand new series added to Smash but some defend Byleth when FE isn’t new to Smash and it took us a while to get a character with different Weapons.
Not gonna lie, went in expecting a really poorly researched and meme-y ride (as is usual for anything Hero related nowadays) but what I got was a super well researched and respectful analysis of a franchise I've been a fan of for decades. The conclusion also totally did get me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, thanks for making my day!
Back in June, when the reveal trailer for Hero dropped I went ahead and bought Dragon Quest 8 to understand the character better in smash. Right now, in February, I'm at the final boss.
8 is pretty spectacular, it's already one of my favorite RPG's, havent beaten it yet though, im at the part of the game where Yangus has you find a friend who has a boat so you can travel to the next big area.

I was introduced to Dragon Quest through my brother who owned Dragonquest 8 on his ps2 and iPad and I was mesmerized by it. I personally never got heavily involved with the series, but when Hero was announced and I saw the DQ 8 I lost my shit like that scene in Elf when Buddy gets excited for Santa saying “I know him!” That’s what it was for me.
Donovan Joseph the movie is great and the animation is outstanding I liked the visuals of the movie I don’t want to spoil the movie, but it takes place in dragon quest V
Your Story was INCREDIBLE, best video game film I have ever seen. I love Dragon Quest, but i've truthfully only played 1, 8 and some of the spin-offs. I plan on going through 11 very soon, and getting even deeper into the series.
I've only played 4, 5 and 6. The movie is beautiful. I thought it was going to be weird having them not in the original DQ style, but it worked. Highly recommend to DQ fans. . Mild spoiler. . . . . Don't know what to think of the "V" at the end, but still loved the movie.
Hero was the most fun I've had with a character since I first tried out King K. Rool in the beginning days of Ultimate. That was what convinced me to get DQ11, which I ended up enjoying despite not even liking RPGs. Great video as usual, Alax. Very informative.
A note about Heal: it's probably included because the Japanese spell name, Hoimi, has become a generic term for magical healing, so it's too iconic not to include
Kid Icarus Uprising is still my most favourite 3DS game! Play it! The NES one is my most fav NES game, too. The Gameboy one is the only one not so good.

True, he did show Banjo-tooie when talking about what even is an RPG tho which makes sense cause that's more adventure game then platformer. Come to think of it, between Tooie and StarFox Adventure, it feels like Rare kept trying to make an RPG even though Dream was cancelled.
I'm so glad Guv from DQ8 made it into the game. That was my favorite Dragon Quest. Also Yangus always called you Guv in the game so I always referred to him as Guv.
Alax, I'm not gonna lie, you'd probably like Fire Emblem Awakening, since you enjoyed the dating mechanism of Persona so much. You and your party marry others and then have babies that grow up and fight for you as well! There's "RPG" elements sure but the cool story and the character interactions make it that much more worthwhile.

Awakening's were kinda stereotyped afaik, but again from what I've heard Fates's are even worse in that department, so Awakening's probably the better recommendation if you're not strict on SRPG gameplay.
If you play fire emblem for the couples and stories, then I pity you. I think playing them for the gameplay and characters makes them much more enjoyable.
The funny thing about Hero's Final Smash is that Two (the guy in blue wearing goggles) is there despite being the only one that does not know any magic or even have any MP to begin with. He contributes nothing to the Final Smash but he's trying his best.

Actually that was incorrect. Sakurai and Square chose the Luminary and Erdrick, then they decided to pick Eight because of Western popularity, and then Solo was chosen instead of the protagonist from 5.

Sadly Samus and by extension Dark Samus still have a bunch of generic moves, i can only think of her specials, grabs and dash attack taken from Metroid games, unless they redesign her there's not a lot to see.
Quadraxis The Metroid representation in Samus’s moveset sucks. Hell, the original 12 have weird representations. They need to be redesigned. Give Mario more power ups, give Luigi more poltergeist moves, give DK a moveset, and make Samus fast like she’s suppose to. I dunno what you can do with the other guys, but there can still be improvements.
I would personally love to see a Snake Know Your Moves. I would love to see the character design and why someone who's from a game all about stealth has a nakita and grenades, which are very loud weapons.
snake is an infiltrator with an expertise in on-site procurement... and he tends to infiltrate military bases. the way that the MGS games go, you usually tend to have at least one heavy weapon on you at all times, unless you're doing a challenge thing of "no killing". unfortunately for that, his non-lethals tend to be too... gun-y for smash, so he's stuck with the his explosives... which actually tend to be what you use in the final bosses of MGS, as you tend to fight the titular Metal Gears for those.
That's because Metal Gear is a "Stealth Game" and not a Stealth Game. Though I guess it technically *is* stealthy if you murder everyone on-site before they can report.
@Super It gets better when you get to Heliodor Castle. But overall once you get more party members then the game gets more fun because the Hero doesn’t have much of a personality so It’s good that the first party member is so good.
@@Super-ln3kz Well most JRPGs start off slow and boring because for some players it needs time to get into the mechanics. But the furhter you go the more options you have and that's when the fun kicks in.

Fun fact: Solid Snake hasn't used the RPG-7 (side smash) or mortar (up smash) in the games. Naked Snake/Big Boss, of course, used the RPG-7. But, there wasn't a usable mortar weapon in the Metal Gear series until MGS5 (M2A-304 mortar). The only other weapons Snake himself hadn't used are the Cypher (which act as enemies) and the Covering Fire (an MGS5 feature). He did wield a grenade launcher in the first Metal Gear, but the model used in Brawl's Final Smash is not his M79, but rather the RGB6, which was used by Raiden in MGS2.

Did you know that Zelda Game's Story and Dragon Quest's Story has strangely similar plots in multiple games? Seriously, DQ3's Plot is literally Link to the Past.
That's because both DQ and Zelda are basically the same concept but in different genres. They both follow the story of the Yuusha which is basically a story of someone (most specifically someone in their teens) who is tasked with saving the world from some kinda dark lord. Which explains why Hero and Link are so similar, they effectively the same archetype.
Fun fact: The up taunt isnt a reference to pep powers but mustering strength. Something enemies do before launching an attack on you. This video is still fantastic Alax! Keep it up.

Expio 20XX just checked on multiple online sources and by loading up my save file for DQ5. The hero cannot use zap spells or equip the zenithian sword
Moral of the story: Dragon Quest inspired both Fire Emblem and Pokemon, thus being the inspiration for 90% of the Smash Bros roster

I'm so glad Guv from DQ8 made it into the game. That was my favorite Dragon Quest. Also Yangus always called you Guv in the game so I always referred to him as Guv.

Alax, I'm not gonna lie, you'd probably like Fire Emblem Awakening, since you enjoyed the dating mechanism of Persona so much. You and your party marry others and then have babies that grow up and fight for you as well! There's "RPG" elements sure but the cool story and the character interactions make it that much more worthwhile.
He could also do Fire Emblem Fates. Same thing really.

Awakening's were kinda stereotyped afaik, but again from what I've heard Fates's are even worse in that department, so Awakening's probably the better recommendation if you're not strict on SRPG gameplay.
If you play fire emblem for the couples and stories, then I pity you. I think playing them for the gameplay and characters makes them much more enjoyable.

The funny thing about Hero's Final Smash is that Two (the guy in blue wearing goggles) is there despite being the only one that does not know any magic or even have any MP to begin with. He contributes nothing to the Final Smash but he's trying his best.
One thing I noticed while playing Hero is that his charge Smash Attacks plays that small jingle when it's the player's turn to do a normal attack.

Sadly Samus and by extension Dark Samus still have a bunch of generic moves, i can only think of her specials, grabs and dash attack taken from Metroid games, unless they redesign her there's not a lot to see.

The Metroid representation in Samus’s moveset sucks. Hell, the original 12 have weird representations. They need to be redesigned. Give Mario more power ups, give Luigi more poltergeist moves, give DK a moveset, and make Samus fast like she’s suppose to. I dunno what you can do with the other guys, but there can still be improvements.
I would personally love to see a Snake Know Your Moves. I would love to see the character design and why someone who's from a game all about stealth has a nakita and grenades, which are very loud weapons.
snake is an infiltrator with an expertise in on-site procurement... and he tends to infiltrate military bases.
the way that the MGS games go, you usually tend to have at least one heavy weapon on you at all times, unless you're doing a challenge thing of "no killing". unfortunately for that, his non-lethals tend to be too... gun-y for smash, so he's stuck with the his explosives... which actually tend to be what you use in the final bosses of MGS, as you tend to fight the titular Metal Gears for those.
That's because Metal Gear is a "Stealth Game" and not a Stealth Game.
Though I guess it technically *is* stealthy if you murder everyone on-site before they can report.

@Super It gets better when you get to Heliodor Castle. But overall once you get more party members then the game gets more fun because the Hero doesn’t have much of a personality so It’s good that the first party member is so good.
DQ surpised me with how engaging the story is. I cany stop gushing about that gane and Octopath
@@Super-ln3kz Well most JRPGs start off slow and boring because for some players it needs time to get into the mechanics. But the furhter you go the more options you have and that's when the fun kicks in.
@@Super-ln3kz 2 hours is nowhere near enough for a game like Dragon Quest. It's a journey around the (fictional) world, keep with it for a while and you'll end up loving it.

Fun fact: Solid Snake hasn't used the RPG-7 (side smash) or mortar (up smash) in the games. Naked Snake/Big Boss, of course, used the RPG-7. But, there wasn't a usable mortar weapon in the Metal Gear series until MGS5 (M2A-304 mortar). The only other weapons Snake himself hadn't used are the Cypher (which act as enemies) and the Covering Fire (an MGS5 feature).
He did wield a grenade launcher in the first Metal Gear, but the model used in Brawl's Final Smash is not his M79, but rather the RGB6, which was used by Raiden in MGS2.

The way Alax talks about Persona 5 is how I feel about Dragon Quest 11. I dislike most RPGs but the DQ11 demo hooked me hard and now I’m 60 hours in and loving it.

That's because both DQ and Zelda are basically the same concept but in different genres. They both follow the story of the Yuusha which is basically a story of someone (most specifically someone in their teens) who is tasked with saving the world from some kinda dark lord.
