- Four years into the Second World War a two-storey reinforced building had been constructed on the slopes of Wee Fea overlooking the naval anchorage at Lyness and Scapa Flow. This was the Wee fea Naval Communications and Operational Centre, or Headquarters. From here over 200 personnel, mostly women from the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS), handled thousands of phone calls daily between the ships of the Home Fleet and land establishments. In this video, I step back into 1943 and explore the remains of this prominent landmark on the island of Hoy overlooking Scapa Flow in Orkney.
