Curtis, you are a better person than I, I would have scaled the walls, climbed in the windows and got into that castle! How sad to see something so beautiful left to ruin. Glad to see your vlog again, it has been a while and you are missed!

Thank you, so very much Curtis, for this video. I found the man, Ferdinando, equally interesting as the castle. Marquis Ferdinando Panciatichi Ximenes d'Aragona Marquis among all his properties always loved (and hated) the Castle of Sammezzano, disappointed even by his contemporaries and by the political life of the time, he preferred to take refuge here away from the voices, scandals and disappointments of the party and liberal ideals that he had. It is recalled that he financed the Wars of Independence that led to the Unification of Italy. He was a passionate fighter during the uprisings of '48 and a faithful supporter of the national cause, he was a municipal councilor in Florence in Reggello and (probably) in Rignano sull'Arno, a member of the Departmental Council (then Provincial Council) from 1860 to 1864 and Deputy of the Kingdom in the IX and X Legislature, a position from which he resigned in 1867, but all this disappointed him to such an extent that in the "Hall of stalactites" of the Castle, hidden between stuccoes and colors, he writes a sentence in Latin: Pudet dicere sed verum est publicani scorta - latrones et proxenetae italiam capiunt vorantque nec de hoc doleo sed quia mala - omnia nos meruisse censeo ("I am ashamed to say it, but it is true, Italy is in the hands of thieves, "harlots" and sensali, but not of this I regret, but of the fact that we deserved it"). But the path in the halls is imbued with the thought of Panciatichi and every detail hides a thoughtful.Marquis. This man was a philanthropist, designed the rebuilding of the castle, actually training people in the surrounding areas the techniques of building, ceramics and other art forms , as well as the grounds, parks bringing rare species of plants and trees from all over the world.

What a shame the property has been abandoned for years and years.
It is going to take lots of hard work and money to restore it.

I could feel the sizzling heat through the sound of the cicadas ! I do hope those unique buildings will be appropriately restored ; it is a crying shame to see them reduced to such a state.

Wow the interior of the castle is amazing, the outside is breathtaking also. The Madici family had a few popes in it I believe so definitely had money for such a lavish stately castle. Thanks for letting us see this Curtis 😊

Oh, that castle is divine. I want it.😶‍🌫 I love the Moroccan/ Arabesque style. All those colors, Gorgeous! If it was Medici is needs to be UNESCO world heritage site. That castle must have been spectacular back in it's hay day.

How lovely! Thank you for taking us along! So interesting that the Medicis started this in the 1600's. I never would have associated them with this Arabesque style. (Not like I am an expert, or anything, just a gut reaction.) I hope you don't get in trouble for this!! The amphora looks lovely on the mantle.

The green algae on the water actually protects it and keeps it pure. A little urban exploring video Italian style. I think what you called a staff house was actually a spa of some sort. It looked like a sauna room.

It amazes me that Ferdinand Panciatichi Ximenes, who inherited the castle in 1889, was able to envision the Moorish design. He actually cataloge ordered a lot of the supplies needed to achieve his dream. He also ordered several trees, of various species from near and far and many are still standing today. There are 365 rooms and not 200. A room for every day of the year. I sincerely hope that the new owners put some love and money into it and that they appreciate its beauty and leave it in all its glory. It would be a travesty to erase so much history.

That was so interesting Curtis! What an extraordinary place but a little creepy as you said! The interiors must be breathtaking to see and I hope that it does become a place that can be shared rather than just a private property that no one hardly ever uses. If it’s UNESCO then it should be protected for all to see.

I wish I had the money. If I was a billionaire, billions would be spent on rescuing buildings. These treasures and Lynwood House in the US. I would want to rescue the SS United States, but that ship is probably now too far gone to be saved. I understand that not everything can be saved, but the three buildings you have shown in this video certainly can be. Authentically saved!
Thank you for the video. I really do value your channel Curtis.
