I have 38,000 miles on my Model Y, I changed my own filters. So zero service calls. I have those Seatbelt holders.. they are very helpful when you drop the back seats and put them back up. the seat belt stays in a good place, and for passengers, it makes it easier to find the seatbelts. I highly recommend them.. they are only a couple of dollars on Ali Express. I had an early build Model S and it was an adventure, back then Tesla was super accommodating, they would take the car in for squeaks and creaks and they would fix it for free. Luckily where I live the Service manager came from mercedes and he wants his service department to be run like a luxury center. He has a bay for detailing new cars which should be at all service centers. Our Model Y has been perfect, I think that I could flip it and not lose any money by getting a new one, but I will keep mine, I have ppf on the whole car, and I plan on keeping it for a long time (I sold my P85 model S at 121,000 miles and checked in with the people that bought it.. they wound up getting a Model y and a new model X eventually) I can't imagine having a gas car
This is awesome to hear! We definitely would use those seat holders if we ever used the backseats! Will likely get them in the future.
I am a little over 10k miles on my M3 and I had tires rotated $65 (by Tesla in my driveway)and windshield wiper fluid twice, so far my Tesla is a win for me! I love the new update 2024.14
Not mentioned enough is one only gets a Telsa or EV if having home charging. Your 0.10 to 0.18 per kwh home charging rate is conservative. I've heard as low as 6 cents/kwh off-peak in some parts of the country. In my area (VA) off-peak is 9 c/kwh. Also honestly why would anyone NOT charge off-peak at home? All it takes a little planning. My MYLR averages only 1/5 in energy cost (with home charging) vs similar gas car. I only supercharge on long trips, much more $$ but ok once in a while.
I agree. Some people don’t (or refuse) to understand this. “But it takes too long”
I just picked up a brand new model Y last week and absolutely love it. I still have a Prius plug-in that my wife drives which has been a great car, but you really can’t compare a Prius and a Tesla.
it is a fantastic car, almost perfect. I just installed the screen swivel which makes it a bit easier for passengers to use with their right hand . good vid
Thank you! That’s a great upgrade. Jo doesn’t want it otherwise we’d do it too lol
@@vegasteslafamily It does lower the screen a little bit but I like that for the "cockpit" feeling lol
Based on my previous experience with car collision repair, 3 weeks for that car repair is not unreasonable in my opinion.
Good to know! I have no idea or experience so I honestly didn’t know
How satisfied were you with the collision repair that Tesla service performed? Do you feel the paint matches correctly? Any issues at all?
Very! No issues but our car was still very new so there was like no paint damage or anything like that anywhere else
Glad that we've had the opposite experience with Tesla insurance. Very thorough and entertaining review to watch. Thank you!!
i’m trying to get a new model 3 performance, i do about 350 miles a week and i daily a V8 camaro…… I spend 200 a week give or take.. 5.99 for premium, is it worth it to keep this since it’s paid off.. and get a new model 3 performance?
forgot to mention i can charge at work for free, i’m there about 5-6 days a week
All your choice. But if you charge for free at work, and spend $200/week in gas… that’s $800/week extra in your pocket. By that math, if you finance and have a monthly payment of anything under $800/mo, you’re literally saving money.
That’s a lot of gas lol
Great video! It’s great watching you both and your Tesla experience. I have a 2018 Model S 100D. I live in California and here they have a charging network called EVCS. They offer a subscription based charging or charge as you go. I drive many miles so I opted for the unlimited charging at anytime which is $199/ month. This network is only available in California, Oregon and Washington. It’s a huge savings for me. I only use Tesla chargers in an emergency because I have the EVCS subscription. The only downside to EVCS, at most locations in California, is the they are only 50kwh of power which takes me about an hour and 15 minutes to charge from 20-80%. I don’t mind because I’m saving tons on electric costs.
Thank you! I didn’t know that was a thing. Sort of like the Tesla supercharger network for non-Tesla EV’s it seems. How’s the reliability?
I been taking a break from TH-cam blogger and TH-camrs, been snapping on the clickbaters, “my mentality is the right mentality” always appreciate yalls honesty and authenticity, I’ll get caught up on some of your trips/videos, keep keeping it real ❤
Appreciate that! We do love our cars and having fun with it but we will always keep it honest!
LOVE the comparison you shared versus the RAV4! I currently have a 2021 RAV4 XLE and have been debating on switching to a 2024 MY. 🤩 been looking for this type of comparison. Appreciate it!!
My brother in law drives a Rav 4 hybrid. I’m working on getting a pure comparison video between that and the Model Y. Glad to hear this helped but stay tuned for that! 😎
Have you ever tried charging at chargers other than Tesla chargers using an adapter? If so , what was that experience like. Got a Mod Y LR AWD coming next month and I'd like to expand charging options for road trips beyond just the Tesla network.
We have! Only once on our model 3. Has to create a chargepoint app and link a credit card, a 5 minute process, before plugging in, then it was no issue.
Very nice video!! As a fellow Las Vegas resident and owner of both a 24 Model 3, and 24 model y, probably would help to add those vehicle registration fees into the costs. I was shocked by how much more these vehicles costs to register versus my old gas vehicles.. lol
That’s true! Didn’t include that. I feel like vegas is at least 2x more of whatever the national average is though 😭
@@vegasteslafamily lol.. yes a painful experience for us out here.. haha
the Nevada standard rate is .14484 cents per kWh for home charging. But you can sign up for time of use plan (we chose not to do that) for slightly cheaper rates.
I got my Tesla model Y December so I also have those 6 months free supercharging that are very helpful, so far I like the driving the car is fast, I love that we get all the updates as well but I something that has been a pain are the rattle noises, there are multiple noises coming from the back of the car specially in city streets ( I am from Vegas as well) I took the car already 3 times to the service center, they fixed the noise and 2-3 days after another noise, right now my seat makes a squeak noise when turning and there are 3 rattles one now coming from the front near the speaker, one from the second row seat and the last one from the lift gate, I also had a Honda civic before this car and never had any issues like that, so far that is my only negative experience with the Tesla, for a car almost 50K that shouldn’t be an issue
I’m sorry to hear that. Our Y doesn’t have that, my 3 has some rattling every now and then but it’s at about 50k miles
I’m actually looking to buy a model y. I live in vegas as well, but how does it hold up when its super hot? I’m concerned about needing to tint the roof
Hey local! Nice! The roof comes factory tinted. You can put another layer of tint, like we did. There are also so many different kinds of roof shades accessories, we got some for around $70, that are link windshield covers for the roof. Not necessary, but definitely helps!
Thank you! So the factory tint wasn’t enough? Thats what i’m worried about haha
@@loyhedaria it is. I’d definitely tint all the other windows though with quality ceramic. The Tesla climate control is great and once the car cools down it stays cool without having to blast the AC
@@loyhedaria I mean it’s all preference. I can’t imagine not having tint in Las Vegas. But it’s no different than any other car
Bought mine March 2023, currently has 9700 miles. I’m in the HH field too, are you guys PT?
Nice! I’m a PT, she’s a nurse. Teslas are the ultimate home health vehicle
I am from Bay Area, I can’t even imagine doing HH in the hot Vegas Summer. haha
@@thienthan324 cabin overheat protection + the ability to cool your car from the app is 🔑
I had a Ford Fairlane; in Australia, that is a LARGE car. It had huge rear seat space and I used to sit there and marvel at the space. I sat in my new Model Y last night and find the rear seat space is comparable with the Fairlane as your legs and feet go under the front seat providing great comfort. Love my Model Y.
That’s interesting! I’ve never had a SUV before this but usually I hear how small the rear seats are in the Y
Are you noticing any issues with fit and finish (e.g., body panel, plastic trim alignment, paint/clear-coat, odd plastic sounds while in motion, etc.)?
how are you able to have free supercharging? was that grandfathered in?
6 months! It was an end of year incentive Tesla offered. End of December, if you purchased a Tesla it came with 6 months of free supercharging
Kinda like how the 0.99% APR financing for Model Y’s is right now
Was the purchase price $46490 including the white interior and the inductions?
how do you feel after traveling all day in it? I heard they have high emf output.
Just got one a month ago and now that summer is here how does it do in 100+ temps? Ever taken a road trip in the heat and how does the battery do with supercharging?
We’ve been to Cali and back a few times in the vegas summer! Sometimes if the supercharger handles get too hot and exposed to the sun, the supercharger rate can be slower. The car itself, we haven’t had any issues. We both have ceramic tint though
I think I read somewhere that you can put a wet towel on the handle to get it to start charging faster.
I am also a Nevada resident, How do you charge for free using the Superchargers?
How is the battery in the Vegas heat? Been thinking of changing to Tesla since I've moved to Nevada
You drain more in extreme weather for sure hot or cold, but still plenty of range as long as you can charge at home on any outlet!
How did you find your Tesla? On their app or did you go to a dealership?
@@vegasteslafamily great...I am STALKING that site for a model Y. Not seeing discounted new inventory though. Thanks for the video
@@diydrivenGA give it a few weeks! I’m sure end of June they’ll push some stuff for end of Q2
Fam! What’s your experience on Front Windshield tint? What do you think of just the top Strip? Or strip and clear tint to keep the heat out?
Definitely recommend the whole windshield, especially in sunny climates. Just depends how dark you want it. I have 30%, that’s pretty dark but I love it. Too dark for Jo, she has 55% and that’s perfect for her
Especially in this desert 🏜️ heat. I’ve been debating because there’s chats out there that say it’ll void warranties if anything should happen - but I also see tons of teslas with front tint! I made the appointment this Friday. Thanks as always!!
@@markanthony5719 I haven’t heard anything about voiding warranties but I don’t wanna give you a 100% for sure answer
Hey Fam! When you took delivery in Vegas, did you have to pay registration then and there separately? And what about Gap insurance option?
All separate! Registration through DMV, they sent us a thing in the mail

The off peak cost in California (PGE) is 0.35/kwh in 2024, 3X what it used to cost when we got our first tesla in 2015. This makes some supercharging stations cheaper than home charging during off peak hours. All Californians (at least northern) are paying for the cost of all the fires the past few years. PGE F's up, customers pay.
I have been watching many reviews of this EV and the most helpful has been done by Car Care Nut ( who is a Toyota mechanic by the look of it). He praised the Tesla drivetrain, tech octo-valve manifold heat pump, etc but ripped it on how shoddy the body is put together. He made an interesting statement saying Tesla should license their tech to car companies so that way the car is put together better and have the hot shot Tesla EV stuff under the hood.
Do you remember by chance how much your insurance premium went up getting this car? Thank you!
i'm insured with allstate in new york with a honda hrv 2017 ex-l for $159/month. i'm trading in my hrv and waiting for delivery for the 2024 long range awd model y 5 seater with white interior in quicksilver. and my insurance went to $280/month
yeah Tesla insurance was the cheapest option I'm not sure other insurance companies know how to deal with it as my insurance went up by about $100 - $150 a month too.
I’m not sure but I know for our 3 and Y we pay between $250-$280/mo
Thank you for the detail breakdown, i want to get model y for the 0.99 apr just scared apartment living no home charginging
Stick to gas I was in a home with no charging and it sucked constantly having to wait for supercharger to not be to busy and having to wait a hour traded in back to a gas car and I love it .
Dang! Do you have access to any outlet anywhere? I have a friend who lives in an apartment and has an outlet in the parking garage he uses
Standing in line isn’t a thing. Superchargers are as plentiful as you need them to be.

Haha thanks! Unscripted is true. I just told her what I was gonna ask, and she said what she said
Tried Tesla couldn’t do it and had to return it and go back to gas unfortunately not being able to supercharge at home was to much cars are cool but think I will definitely stick to gas
Dang! You can upgrade your at home charger if you really need to though
One more comment: I will run my Model Y Charger between 10:00 hrs and 14:00 hrs, give or take, depending on the sun, and charge only on the excess solar that I presently sell to Ergon, my power provider. My neighbour has 40000 klm's on his car which was totally solar powered.
That’s awesome, and I’m sure that’s plenty of charge for what you need
All these Honest reviews leave out the Honest real cost. You never save any money no matter what gas/electric brake down charts shown.
The purchase price alone will usally absorb any fuel savings being EV cars on average cost 20% more to purchase than its ICE equivalent.
Insurance cost is typically 3X the cost over its ICE equivalent.
That's the hidden cost even after all incentives it still cost more to own.
However I do enjoy the EV power and all the positives of the drivetrain advantanges of deletes. No oil, EVAP, exhaust, transmission, noise, CEL malfunctions, O2 sensor issues, etc...
I broke down all the costs. Insurance on our Model Y is actually a little cheaper than it was on our Honda civic. Other than a higher purchase price, it absolutely does not cost more to own.
@vegasteslafamily that's good. Not my experience, nor other people I know and have read about. Kinda sounds crazy a cheaper car with same coverage would be be cheaper to insure than a more expensive car, and on that has extremely high replacement parts only available from Tesla with no aftermarket. Nice video and enjoy..

Hybrid saves more money than superchargers.
Hybrid? Meh only point of that is saving a little bit on gas, comes with all the crap of a gas car & none of the perks of a full electric 🤷, no epic boot space, no over the air updates, has to be serviced for gas car stuff, sorry but i dont see any good coming from hybrids lol

20 minutes to charge vs 7 minutes to pump gas 😩
@@vegasteslafamily what if you run out of battery while on the road and you have to stop and charge it?
@@NatashasNiche the in-car nav will tell you when & how long to charge, to make to next charger on route (or destination.) It usually takes 10-20mins to get a good amount of charge, enough to go like 100-200miles more until next charger. As they mentioned, since you often have to stop for bathroom or food/stretch break by that amount of driving anyway, it is really NO time lost since you just plug in , walk away and do whatever you need to, then app dings you when almost done so you know to start coming back to car.
Unlike gas cars where you really have to sit and hold the gas nozzle for several minutes, maybe go in and pay, THEN walk to bathroom, etc.
After ~8k roadtrip miles so far, I've only had to wait for car handful of times, and often that is at end of trip.. I could have planned better by getting takeout and eat in car to save time, etc... but also many times I had free overnight charging at hotel w/ level2 charger, so evens out a bit.
It is a bit of mindset change, but it ends up working very nicely, the charge stops/breaks plus free AutoPilot helping drive the car on highway, means even after full day of driving, you are NOT very tired at all, especially compared to gas car!
