I recall a pause after the word of Mao's death, followed by a triumphal list of Party comrades he'd vanquished and then a return to the solemn music you present here. The one that isn't "The Internationale" sounds like a dirge based on "The East Is Red," no?
***** the song in the beginning is a funeral song usually used for cadres' funeral. However, I heard this song too in a funeral of Norodom Sihanouk held in Beijing. The song at the end is The Internationale.

Actually I think this announcement sounded like the one I extracted from a documentary few years ago. I believe the funeral song at the very beginning and the internationale in the end are probably added by the poster. The original documentary only had the beginning of the announcement, instead of the full announcement. Based on some historical documents, the first announcement and the later repeats were edited slightly differently. I couldn't verify which one was the one in the documentary.

Either piece of music at that slow tempo would have alerted the listener that something had happened.
