  • I've never made coffee in a percolator! For the past 14 years it's all been instant coffee. Instant is so easy! When I saw the Pyrex Flameware Percolator I knew I had to try it. Sharing! Note: This made about 2.5 cups of coffee using a modern day mug.

    Another nice job :) Very interesting item!! I too love vintage stuff. I think part of it is because we recognize the craftsmanship that went into the stuff. The people who designed/engineered the stuff had durability and customer satisfaction in mind. Not like the disposable junk available today.

      @xetaprime  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Completely agree! There was a beauty and as you say durability, you just don't see today. Funily, my Parents loved Antiquing and took us kids with them. We hated it! So weird how things change.

    Brewing coffee in one of these is almost an art to get it right. Buy an adjustable hand grinder and go coarse enough that you don't get grounds in the coffee. Start your water on the heat a couple minutes before you load the basket. Use the LOWEST heat needed to keep the pump going and be patient. I like to turn mine every few minutes to even out the heat and let it run for at least twenty minutes. You want to avoid a hard boil that sends the bubbles around the bell of the pump, that will only send to boil off the water and make your coffee bitter before you extract all of the flavor from the bean.

    I have 2 Pyrex percolators and love them! Tip (because I couldn’t tell from the video): try a coarse ground coffee. I bought a coffee grinder and grind my own now for the percolator and it’s great! Hardly any sediment in the bottom, unlike the already ground stuff you buy.

    I used one of these for years! My dad loved to come to my house so he could have percolated coffee. There was a triangular (heat deflector? I guess) It was to use on an electric stove- I supposed there were hot spots that might be too hot. Anyway, I assume you've used it so it's too late for a warning.
    One time when we had moved and not everything was unpacked I didn't have the triangle the first morning! My husband made one from a heavy wire coat hanger. It was a triangle that fit under the pot, but the metal did not come around to completely touch the other end, it stopped to leave a 3/4" gap between the ends.
    Just thought of it watching your video. I noticed you didn't put one on the heating element.
    I also had the teapot and the double boiler. Loved the db because you can SEE the depth of the water!
