- Another archival find, broadcast on UK TV in 1998.
It features an interview with Robin Rimbaud (Scanner) talking about his approach and methodology at the time, where his body of work was focusing on the indiscriminate signals found in the airwaves, which he utilised within his ambient work.
He also speaks about his productions for Jean Cocteau's The Human Voice for BBC radio, his tributes to filmmaker Derek Jarman and German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, and his collaboration with Laurie Anderson at Meltdown in London.
It was filmed in Battersea, South London.

Lovely soft pulse from the pitch down reverse voice sample. Great to see this, thanks for sharing.
Still amazing to think how inspiring the early samplers were in this way, trying to search for ways to transform sounds in the simplest ways. Thanks for tuning in Ben!
All this music and this late 90s period reminds me the good old days when I had to cross France to find one of your CDs only available at the Virgin Megastore in Paris. Thank you Robin for all your work. A french fan 😉
Amazing the effort we all used to make to pick up music in the past, it's incredible! Thanks for your years of support then Charles!
@@RobinRimbaudScannerIn fact, I think it hasn't really changed. Music as an art form is still difficult to find, despite the Internet and its abundance of offerings. You have to search again and again to find original stuff that will thrill you (for those who don't know your TH-cam channel of course, for others it's easier 🤣)
Ace! Yes what a time that was to be alive! Oh and make music! So glad I’m here in the 21st century and not alone with my strange obsession with sounds. Thanks for reminding where I came from. 👊😎👍
Well said!
Fantastic insight into your creativity Robin.
I imagine I’d sit there listening, conjuring up an image of who the people are. What does each one look like, what’s their setting, what’s the view out of their window as they sit on the phone exposing themselves completely.
I’d get lost in it. Where are they? And most of all where are they now? What’s the prixie cell and did he come up and see here that night ;)
You've captured it perfectly there! And l love that you used that quote too :-D
❤ Simpler times
In so many ways they were!
This was such a pleasant surprise. Took me back to my childhood. Thank you!
Ah lovely, not such a bad place to be :-)
love the real time scanning going on, so exiting! my dad had one (still does) when i was a kid, there was a prison escape on the isle of white, we heard it happening on scanner in real life, half an hour later we saw it on the news, we alrady knew!
What a fantastic moment that must have been!
@@RobinRimbaudScanner it was ! i dident get how momentous it was at the time as i wqs about 13 but i get it now!
@@michaelsnow7252 Great to recognise this later on though!

Let's never forget, Robin is also one of the funniest and kindest musicians on this planet, probably other planets also.
Too, too kind of you. I can recommend a good doctor for you 😂
@@RobinRimbaudScanner How did you know I'm speaking from a hospital bed? Must have picked up a signal! 😆
@@chiquitafeldberg8259 The nurses always call me to keep me up to date! Hope you are okay and being taken care of x
Looks fun! Do you still use it?
Since the mobile phone network is now digital it's impossible to use such devices anymore
@@RobinRimbaudScanner what a shame!
You are not alone with such a response!@@磁鬼頻率
Nowadays you get copyright strikes for the music playing in the background behind the voices...
There are copyright claims, as always with videos, today, but the publisher allows it to be used here it reports
Good times. Hugo Cornwalls !Hackers Handbook"" first came out. I learnt a lot from that. c 1980.
Indeed! The best!
