Sibanye-Stillwater miners stage sit-in

Over 100 mineworkers are staging an underground sit-in at Sibanye-Stillwater’s Kroondal mine in Rustenburg in the North West over unpaid benefits relating to an employee share ownership scheme. The National Union of Mineworkers says some of those stuck underground for over a day now are being held against their will. Some of the workers are also members of the union Amcu, which also represents employees there.
The mine described the sit-in as unfortunate, also confirming that it includes contractors at Kwezi shaft.
Sibanye-Stillwater says the employees don't qualify for payments as unions still need to engage on the feasibility in line with last year's wage agreement.
