ClrMamePro only scans what you have, and outputs what you're missing, so if you only have say half of a full set, CMP will tell you what you're missing basically. Plus fixes any incorrect ones according to the version of Mame you have.
hey man cool vid i was trying to understand it but abit too complex for me me so if i send u some ROMS i need sortin out would u do it for me for a small payment please ?
Would I be able to use this with a FBA full set? I have about 30% of the roms that currently will not launch. Still a newbie at all this trying to teach myself. Thanks in advance.
I'm not familiar with FBA and it's workings, there are differences as far as how they emulate, so quick answer would be a no, as ClrMamePro was designed for Mame. Probably your best bet would be to do some research. FBA I do know is getting more popular over the last few years and may have a different source to complete a set within.
Thanks for the reply. I had to go into Systems and auto-assign the SDPs and that seemed to have fixed the problem. Honestly there is still a lot I am confused about, but your video really help.
Can't thank you enough for the vid. I used it last year to get things going and it was a huge help! Question if you have a moment: using .183 and have a nice ROM set I am adding more ROMs to. Should I drop the ROMs into the existing folder then run CMP to rebuild again (now that the added roms are in there)?
Which ever version of Mame you have CMP will build from what you have and have added and remove or add to that existing set. IF they are seperate like how I have my "update" folder just for newly acquired sets for builds.
Very informational. Thanks for taking the time to put this video together. I've always wondered if there was something out there that did what Clrmamepro does and now I'm using it. Although I do have one question. I ran the program using wolfmame106. I think I'm wanting to start using the most current version which is now wolfmame201. Do I need to find all the roms that came out between 106 and 201 before rescanning with clrmamepro?
Most likely yes. You can do a scan using Clrmamepro from the .exe of Wolfmame (current version) to get the current list, and scan WITHOUT "fix" selected in the right column. and it will list missing roms. Then if you have a source of where those roms are, then you can select fix as your option.
Great video!! I was in the same situation for so long. I'm so glad I found this video. Any chance you could let me know about dat files? or using CLRMAMPRO for console roms?
I didn't take it as negative, lol I was being subjective as if you have a console in mind, and I already have it in my list, I would start it from scratch just so I can start at the beginning from acquiring it. =) All good. Console roms would be scanned just the same as the Mame stuff just path the directory of the games, I would assume. I actually don't have Xbox, since I can remember the emulators never really worked that well, but I googled a few and I'll try them out over the next few days.
G-O-T-H I think you're right, the emulators are not working like most others are. I'm just looking to get started scanning my collections in a much more efficient manner. Thank you for any help you could provide. 😎
I have many roms that do not work. Does this program just tell you what is missing or does it also download the files needed for repair as well? Can you please demonstrate.
It tells you what's missing in accordance to the version of mame that you have. It will attempt to fix them as well. My recommendation is to get the latest Mame version and do a scan to see want you need to complete.
Hey there G-O-T-H, I had a question. You didn't really talk about the .DAT file or the .DIFF files you get from progettosnaps, Do we need those files in any folders before doing these scans? Thanks :)
I don't get the DAT or DIFF files, since ClrMamePro and each version of MAME auto populates them for Mame. if you say get a DAT for NES roms and want to complete a set of those roms then they are available. But for MAME, the way I showed you is the most easiest for this romset, and no need to download a DAT just for MAME. Hope that answers your question.
@@jesterman1302 I haven't tried Retropie, so I can't be of much help. But if you follow my tutorial I would think it's the same? Good luck let me know how it goes!
hi, I have a question. would the clrmamepro work for mame4all v4.9r2? because I couldn't find the exe file under the mame4all folder. none of them had an exe extension. thanks
I'm not familiar with mame4all, however I did look at some info about it, and if there isn't a .exe then Clrmamepro won't work, as it needs a source program to call an XML or list to compare.
Hey, thanks for the video! New to MAME, but grew up in a family owned arcade playing all the classics. I find MAME really confusing and It's probably the only piece of software I've ever used that stumps me. Releasing new tutorial videos like this definitely helps newbies like me. Without tutorial videos like this, people like me probably wouldn't bother using MAME.
Quick and easy my ass lol. I don't have the patience to do this, but I only blame myself. I'm convinced I'm not going to be able to figure out which roms are which and I know I will get this wrong when trying to merge.
Well, having a FULL set makes using the program much easier as there isn't much to do. I on the other hand have 4 rom directories with all different [mame] version roms that I have tried to get it to search through and build merged sets, many times. The results of so many files producing so few games makes me think something isn't going to plan...
As you're trying to help, let me explain better: I've been collecting ROMs since 1997 [For educational purposes, hence I don't have a full set or CHDs and whatnot] and during that time, upgrading mame often required updated ROMs. Years later, I have about 12G, in multiple directories, so as not to over-write existing files with the intent to eventually rebuild, (though I've tried and may have made a scramble of it all, in the past) Is there a way that I can have it pour through these directories (preferably looking ONLY for correct checksums) to build a merged set? Do I need to "fix" them first? Basically, I have a MESS [heh] in MAME... it's been neglected.
What I would do is get the current build of MAME (.190) create a new DAT, and for each folder run clrmamepro 'rebuild', then in an empty folder (title it ROMS or NEWROMS) make that the destination ROM folder, do that for each, then any merges would take place, then scan, then scan and fix. See where that gets you.
You are a very good teacher sir
I appreciate you making this video.
Thank you, now I'm going to play sinistar on my PSP and listen to sisters of mercy.
Thanks for the guide! Clearest explanation I've watched.
i know it is pretty off topic but does anyone know a good place to stream newly released series online ?
@Dustin Ronin try Flixzone. You can find it on google :)
@Preston Armando Definitely, I've been watching on FlixZone for since march myself =)
@Preston Armando Thank you, signed up and it seems to work :D I appreciate it !!
@Dustin Ronin no problem =)
Thank you I found this really useful, and you explained everything really clearly....Just Subbed.
Is there any way to scan only available MAME Roms in my folder without scanning all the Roms?
ClrMamePro only scans what you have, and outputs what you're missing, so if you only have say half of a full set, CMP will tell you what you're missing basically. Plus fixes any incorrect ones according to the version of Mame you have.
@@MandoMike I just uncheck "Missing" on "Scanner". Does that help?

if one extracts the .dat file from a mame exe in clrmamepro, does that .dat file also contains the database for the SL (software list roms) ?
I believe so, I don't use software lists in my build, and yes, CMP extracts the SL as well from the .exe
@9:51-- when I hit "New Scan" and it says "the paths from the following systems are not correct" then it lists all my BIOSs. What is wrong?
Make sure your ROM and sample paths are correct.
Having same problem, was this ever solved???
4:35 make sure your paths are correct.

Xbox emulation still isn't good as far as I'm aware. There's very little developer interest because most of the exclusives aren't that good.

What if you don't have MAMEUI installed, and you're trying to organize 28K+ roms for RetroPie using Clrmamepro?
RetroPie has it's own set of emulators and corresponding DAT files for Roms. Would basically be used the same way.

Make a separate DAT file for each directory folder and settings. Still would be simple, save as default for each DAT.
