    Thank you! After a good deal of reading and watching videos I purchased this in a 5" SCT version. You did a great job of covering the Starsense Explorer. I am amazed how easy it is to setup and locate objects. The details and images in the app add a lot to the experience.
    I wanted a telescope that my wife would enjoy using at home and on our camping trips. Again, you did a fantastic job of demonstrating the simplicity, portability and capabilities of this telescope. *****

    The orange piece where you install the arm, the button you press to release is set at the bottom. When I install the arm it faces down. Which means I can’t install the telescope because it will be in the wrong position. Is there a way to move the orange part so the release button faces up?

    I've got the 8" Dob version. Under Bortle 1-2 skies, Starsense struggles. Darker skies, it works very well. If you live in a bright urban area, it's not the fault of starsense. I love it.

    Your reviews are amazing - it's refreshing to see someone talk regular English without all the marketing speak.
    In terms of transporting, what parts would you detach? Just the tube as one and the rest of assembly as the other? And assuming the ride for the telescope is well cushioned, do I need to worry about collimation upon reaching the destination? Also, do you need to align prior to every observing session? Thanks!

    • @AstroBlender
      @AstroBlender  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you enjoyed it. For transporting it, if you don't have a case I would just wrap the OTA in a couple layers of blankets and put it in the trunk. I'd also take off the mirror assembly unit just so you don't accidentally break it. As you saw in the video it is easy to pop on and off. Then when you get to where you want to go you can be up and running in under 5 minutes. Collimation can definitely get jarred if you hit big bumps in the road. If I take a long trip I usually bring some tools and a collimating eyepiece just in case.

    How do you "turn the clamp assembly so that the locking screw is on top of the dovetail clamp?"

  • @JohnMark61355
    @JohnMark61355 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How about collimation. The laser collimator I bought changes the collimation spot depending on how tight the collimator is installed. Should the collimator be just dropped in or tightened the same as an eyepiece. Also, my tripod legs have no threads so it just drops in, not screw in, so the tripod is more wobbly. They can be screwed in from the bottom, but no video shows that.

    • @AstroBlender

      If you’re going to use a laser I’d use a Hotech SCA. These have a self-centering adaptor so you can ensure everything is on axis.

      They seldom do on low priced Celestine scopes. It is a B-J type (I think, since most of the Celestrons are) instead of a simple Newtonian (like an Orion) so it is difficult to adjust.

    Great vid, some questions from my end, since yesterday was my 1st night out:
    - Why do you have two holes on the dust cover, why can you remove them separately?
    - I see that under the eyepiece, I can fix the 'cover' with screws too.... what is that for?

    • @AstroBlender
      @AstroBlender  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1. That is to increase the focal ratio of your telescope if you wish. If you are viewing the moon and want to increase your focal ratio you can simply decrease your aperture. Using the cover with one of the holes open is a way to do that.
      2. I'm not sure what you're referring to?

    • @AstroBlender
      @AstroBlender  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are 3 reasons that come to mind why this could occur:
      1: Your phone isn't properly aligned with the mirror.
      2: There is too much light pollution in your sky to plate solve.
      3: Your telescope is moving while trying to plate solve.
      That's all I can really think of.

      @@pkcheng5556 So, the answer to your original question is yes and no, but probably no. The tripod probably would not support the weight or of the 5SE very well, and you might have trouble balancing it. Also, if you're spending $400 for the scope, this 5-inch scope won't really show you more than the 5-inch scope you already have.
      Or, if you're spending the $400 just to get the StarSense, you don't have to do that. You can get a separate StarSense unit that will attach to your 5SE for $325 instead.

    • @Fluffysweep
      @Fluffysweep 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No , Collimating is when you realign the two mirror's withing the tube/scope itself , funny enough most pro's do use a red dot alignment tool , but it is all happening inside the scope tube....
      I think what Slymin is doing here is aligning his red dot finder scope to the scopes visual field of view , in other words once they are aligned its easier to point the red dot at something you want to see and that object will automatically be in your scopes field of view when you look through it.
      trying to find objects using the scopes main lens is very hard and cumbersome because you don't have a great wide field of view to play around with.

    @tonybardsley4549 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've had the scope for 2 weeks, but have failed to get it aligned despite numerous attempts during the day. The core issue is that the phone's camera (Samsung M30) imaging the docking mirror's reflection is constantly out of focus. I've tried the advanced camera settings on the Star Explorer app to no effect. I can only assume that the phone's camera cannot resolve any reflection as it senses that it is too close to the docking mirror. Accordingly, its failure to work at night is due to this inability to find any sharp points of light in the sky due to the focussing issue. I would be extremely grateful for any suggestions as how to solve this issue.
