    Thank you so much, Don! This routine always seems like it will get old, but it never does. Everytime Dave mentions Midnight Run and his films, i can't help but laugh out of the irony

    Wow, this collection was so wonderful! Thank you so much for doing this. I didn’t appreciate Charles Grodin when I was younger; I guess I was one of the people that didn’t get it, but I was just a kid then & wasn’t really paying attention. Now as I watch this, I’m smiling & laughing the whole time. What a guy he was! So funny, smart, talented & truly one of a kind. I’m glad I got to see this. He was brilliant with Dave (& Carson too). As a side note, I love that all the thumbnails show him smiling. He had a fantastic smile!

    Thank you for all of this! Grodin, Robin Williams, Terri Garr, etc. would have and should have been guests (of course they weren't for different reasons) on Letterman's show during those final months/weeks in 2015. Life goes on and times and people change, but everyone will always have these moments.

    Grodin abruptly quit acting around the releases of Beethoven's 2nd, Clifford and So I Married An Ax Murder. He had a talk show that ended up getting cancelled after a year. In those days it was harder to figure out what was going on. He returned a decade later for 11 years doing a few more movies. The first appearance is when he didn't do films but was brought on for comedy. It was from 2004. He had done the CNBC talk show between 1995 and 96 replacing Tom Snyder but CNBC changed format. For a few months was on 60 Minutes II but left and Jimmy Tingle replaced. However, Jimmy quit and nobody was used as a Andy Rooney type character. In 2005 60 Minutes II ended over a scandal. His return movie was a bit later in either 04 or 05 with one film.

    • @jrpipik
      @jrpipik 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@dongiller I hoped someone could hand me the answer so I wouldn't have to look for myself, but failing that I found this at theaterscene.net: "The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS would run seven more years after Grodin’s final appearance. What happened to end one of the great comedy teams? The other day I listened to a 2013 radio interview with Grodin. He seriously explained that he felt he had to give it up as by then he was mostly retired from acting, being more involved in social causes such as freeing wrongly convicted prisoners and that people expected him to be the character he was with Letterman and were amazed that he wasn’t."

      From the article "Grodin on Letterman" on TheaterScene, written by a dude named Darryl Reilly:
      "The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS would run seven more years after Grodin’s final appearance.
