Thanks man. You confirmed what I thought about open telemetry being the new way of doing application monitoring. App Insight’s target roadmap is to migrate to open telemetry rather than vendor specific application insights exporters. Never manipulated metrics or created new ones so you just gave a very nice example and I have ideas about what I can do in my current client context. The video is also short and precise. I like it. I don’t generally like to watch dev videos in my spare time but I am good watching yours cause they are very short and light. Keep up the good work.
I love your content and how you present your knowledge in your videos. Something in the dotnet TH-cam community is bothering me. There are no low-level videos about how things work under the hood without using some abstractions. For example, how can we create a basic "session" mechanism, how we can use SQL without a big framework like EF, and how we can create migrations ourselves. I will be very happy if I see things like that from you. Shawn. I appreciate your content. Thanks, man.
just wow - described so clearly, thanks mate. By the way trying to get AspNetCore opentelemetry tied to AWS Xray - didn't find a way to do it directly. not sure if it can be used without a collector running as a sidecar and/or a separate service container.
Thanks man.

You're welcome!
Thanks, Shawn, this is very helpful. It came just at the right time. I would be interested in the future connecting this to Aspire. 😄

Looks like they want you to use their distro for sidecar'ing; aws.amazon.com/otel/
