What an unusual opening melody. Love this work. Thank you for uploading it.

Haydn siempre hace algo novedoso y especial en sus obras. Algunas veces es muy notorio y otras son pequeños detalles maravillosos.

Dimenticavo. Complimenti a questo complesso cameristico che ci porta ad Estheraza con pizzico di modernità.

The opening reminds me of Mozart's c-minor piano concerto.

Mozart when writing K491 clearly had the angular and naggingly memorable opening motif of the first movement if Haydn 78 ringing in his ears, so you’re quite right to make the link which is in this case, very real.
Beethoven, Schubert, Spohr and others also obviously knew it, which is hardly surprising as it offers enormous possibilities for all sorts of motivic development; each of these composers then took the model, and used it in their own way, as did Mozart.

@@elaineblackhurst1509 It is a minor theme that almost presents itself but it is to Haydns' credit that he caught it in its essence. I have the impression that this symphony reverts to his Sturm & Drang era. Sounds remarkably similar to the Farewell symphony.

Absolutely disagree my friend; Haydn has moved well beyond sturm und drang and is now experimenting with symphonies beginning in a minor key but then moving - usually in 3rd-related steps - to the tonic major; they are journeys from darkness to light that bear little relation to the great minor key sturm und drang symphonies like 26, 44, 45, 49, and 52 which have a more unified and singular emotional, rhetorical, and dramatic expression.
Symphonies 80, 83 and 95 also follow this pattern, and then most obviously, so too does Beethoven 5; Mozart does not go down this path at all.

Mozart's own Ballet Music K 345 (Thamos) Nach dem III. Akt. No.4 resembles his own C minor concerto more in its theme and even predates the Haydn symphony.

Un assaggio formidabile delle prossime sinfonie londinesi?
Sicuramente. E credo che Beethoven debba a questa sinfonia moderna ( per l’epoca) molto. A me sembra un’ottima fonte di ispirazione!!
    Gradirei un parere. Grazie
