Dude, these two videos have to be the BEST Rotax oil change videos available! Thank you for doing such a great job!!
Thank you!
Your Rotax oil change videos are very helpful and greatly appreciated. Thank you!
One of the better oil change videos for sure on the 912!
Secret Tip: Progressive Oil Change. I have owned four 912ULS powered AC. Three I built. One is a Sport Cruiser. All have a quick drain installed on the oil tank. Every 20 hours, I drain off a quart of oil, replace it with a fresh quart. Oil suction tube never collects any air with this procedure. Keeps oil freshened up and additive package topped up and cuts moisture content in half, gets rid of lead. I usually drain the quart off when the engine is cold which gives time for unfiltered solids to settle in the bottom of the oil tank. This progressive oil change technique takes me only 15 minutes as opposed to over an hour for full-blown oil drain and air purge which involves a lot of potential leak issues, ie, four valve covers, spark plugs removed, oil lines removed, etc. All you need is a quick drain: Aircraft Spruce PN 07-00876.
If possible, type of quick drain oil plug you use?
Very well done. Good editing. Thanks!!!
Thank you! 🙏🏼
That's Jeremy McGregor and that's his plane. He used to work for the old CPS when it was in San Leandro, CA. I know him, but haven't seen him for a number of years. He's a nice guy.
A couple of comments. He is still using the oil filter pliers on the filter. He did remove the old filter by grabbing the filter case which can and has punctured filters. Since he was removing an old one no big deal, BUT never grab the new filter case with these pliers. It didn't show him re-installing the filter. If you do use these pliers make sure you ONLY grab the steel ring at the filter base. The newer style filter wrench is better and won't cause any damage.
He mentioned in the video you can't pre-fill the oil filter, but he was using a new one which can be pre-filled. You couldn't pre-fill the predecessor of the filter because of the check valve. This new filter doesn't have a check valve. His video looks to be made in June 2020 and the old filter has been gone a few years before this one came out. Go ahead and pre-fill the oil filter. You can fill it to the top 3 times and it will just soak into the filter media and to the outside of the filter median.
I'm not a fan of the Curtis Quick drain valve and neither is Rotax. The oil drains to slow to get a good flush of the heavy materials on the bottom.
solid video, going to do my first owner oil change. yes I read the manual but this video is 1000% better for digestion of content.
Great to hear!
Great video, thanks for the detailed step-by-step instructions.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks! Really appreciated the technique to see the oil level on the paper towel 👍
Excellent video! Please make more. I’m a new 912 operator and have a lot to learn.
Excellent tutorial. Thanks.
You're welcome!
One of the best videos out there
Great job of explaining, just purchased a used Trike!
Thanks a lot Mr. Jeremy for this informative info
When balancing carbs would you recommend the carbmate or analog gauges ? Could you recommend where i can buy either ? Thank you
Do you recommend a particular brand of oil filter splitter?
AMSOIL has a set of oil filter wrenches that you can use a torque wrench.
What Curtis Drain Valve do we purchase? I see so many options on their website.
does that bolt that you safety wired the magplug to have a hole in it? if not what's to stop the safety wire from slipping off the head of the bolt ?
The angle of the bolt and the tension in the wire keep it from wanting to slip off, some people drill the bolt head but it’s really not necessary
Perfect! Thank you!
Jeremy, was there a reason why you didn't wash the screen with petrol?
I've another question Jeremy! Was there a reason why you didn't remove the Mag-Plug while you had the Filter removed?
AMSOIL has an OAP Kit that can be mailed. Results can be e mailed back usually six days.
What is the SAE and API for the approbate oil . Is 0 w 40 SH useable/
Are close to Dallas? Need help changing the oil of my 912. Pls let me know. Thx
Sorry no I’m based out of central California
I thought if you were running just avgas you had to do the tank cleaning every 50 hours?
Rotax says 200hrs regardless of fuel used, if running AVGAS then drop your oil changes from 50hrs to 25hrs. The more tank cleaning the better but 200hrs is sufficient
Amateur mistake 😩how about filling the new oil filter with clean oil to pre soak the filter then drain new filter of oil before installation so it does not spill. The reason for this pre soaking is so when you first start the engine the oil flows and does not have to fill a dry filter before engine gets any oil or oil pressure😁simple
Wear nitrile gloves.
I would get oil on my hands for anyone 🤠
Forgot say master OFF when burping engine.
