That is a beautiful stand of wheat. Not only does it look like a tremendous yield, but it looks completely weed and grass free. It also looks like the moisture levels are good for harvesting. I was born and raised on a family farm of my father's. Farming had been a tradition in my family for many generations; however, in 1971 I saw the handwriting on the wall that the days of the small family farms were soon going to be a thing of the past. I went to college and entered the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot and officer. This career was OK, but I truly missed the dirt under my fingernails and sweat on my brow. My family for many generations were primarily Irish potato and sweet potato farmers, with wheat, barley, green beans, peppers and strawberry's being our smaller cash flow crops to help pay the bills until the potatoes were dug. I took a year off from college in 1973 and traveled to Great Britain. I only wished I had approached a potato farmer when I was there and asked if I could have helped with his potatoes in some way. I forgot to let you know that I live in the U.S. in the state of Virginia. My area is a 70 mile long peninsula called the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The Chesapeake, Bay is to our west and the Atlantic Ocean is to our east. We have an ideal climate for growing produce and grains.
