I'm waiting for a YZF-R9 or R10 with ˜100-150 bhp and sporty but not racing ergonomics. Also Yamaha - if building such a machine try to remember that you have potential customers that stand over 6 feet tall and would like to ride said machine for durations over 45 minutes
I was in a conversation with some Yamaha guys, and they told me that Yamaha is not planing to bring the R9 yet, or even at all... Yamaha mechanics, developers and other staff usually have to study the upcoming models to better deal with them, and for 2022 and 2023 there is no R9 on their studies (I don't really know how to explain the "studies" but they have to basically introduce themselves to new bike models so they can sell them, repair them, know how they work, build them, etc etc etc). But basically their explanation is, "the current motorcycle market is focused on Tracers 700/900 and the Tenere, being R's a very small market not worthy to invest at the moment". They do have the R9 patent, but no intention to build it anytime soon. (Sorry for any bad English).

@@ColonelMustard I rode an mt10 for a while and maybe I just have poor discipline, but that thing was always two throttle twists away from a disaster. Same goes for the super duke. But they are fun, no doubt there.

I'm like some folks, I'd like an XSR1 (or XSR1000, whatever they would want to call it). But I will say it's less ugly than before. Glad they addressed fuel economy at least somewhat. Will have to see what real world gets. I had a '11 FZ1 fully un-corked with 150 whp peak, it got 37 mpg (US) just about no matter what, also had a 4.75 gal tank.
I don’t ever do burn outs just because I’d rather use my tread either cornering or practicing wheelies. But if buying tires isn’t an issue smoke em if you got ‘em I suppose

Nicely done Chad. Some good upgrades I suppose it's a lot more attractive for a new buyer. You get a lot of things and the price is right. Whether it's attractive for last-gen owners to upgrade, I'm doubting.
I just did the 600 mile break in oil change. I love this bike. My first mod will be a new seat. Yamaha makes a comfort seat for it but you can't find one anywhere. I'm getting a Sargent seat. Later, I might get the mid pipe and computer flash done so I can hear more CP4 music.
De cat link pipe and flash and my '18 mt10 gets about 25mpg. That's making huge pulls, riding it hard! Considering I got it about 4 months ago with 1100 miles on it for $9,800, I'd consider that pretty good. That extra money I saved buys plenty of premium.
What about a touring edition? If I were to upgrade my 2020 model, would I be able to fit my Hepco pannier brackets? There's no way I would upgrade and have to junk my existing panniers and sport-rack with tail bag. I'd either keep the bike and spend a lot less on a suspension upgrade, or simply change brands - SDR for instance.
I'd have found it more useful, if you'd have talked about some of the items I have on my 2018 MT10. !/ Does it have a comfort seat? 2/ Can you get the screen? 3/ Can you get the hand guard/protectors? 4/ Does it come with a guard for the radiators(oil and coolant)? Can any of these items be transferred from my 2018 MT10 to a 2022 MT10?
I am still breaking in, in the 600-1,000 mile 2nd half of the break in. According the computer, I'm getting 32 MPG (US gallons), while essentially staying below 7,100 RPM as directed in the owner's manual. I got about 35 for the first part of the break in staying below 5,900 RPM. So on track I would expect maybe mid-twenties, and probably high 20s to low 30s once broken in and "driven normally". That said, I generally don't ride highways Iike a commuter might, or putter around town... I ride for fun on back roads.
Tbh I really don't feel anything for the 6 axis IMU and all the other fancy stuff.... Haven't missed it at all. Its almost 2024 and I still LOVE my 2017 MT-10 SP! Tip for Gen1 riders: Buy an Gen2 comfort seat! It fits the Gen 1 perfectly (yes I know they tell you it doesn't and I don't know why either), looks great and is more comfortable than the original seat.
It’s a weird thing these Yamaha Ergonomics. I’m 50 and stand 6’ tall. The MT-09 fits horrible, the MT-10 fits pretty well but the MT-07 is one of the best fitting most comfortable bikes for me. It makes me wonder what Yamaha is trying to do with these ergos. Regardless, Yamaha makes superb machines.

It's only a 5hp difference... You can get more than that with a basic tune. I have a 2020 with decat and tune and I don't think I'll sell it anytime soon, it's just too good!
Its nice, but as an owner of the previous model I don't see enough to make me change. I don't use the electronic options I already have so don't see me wanting more. Styling has to move on and this is OK but not an improvement in my current owner's opinion. Be interesting to see what supply of new MT10s to dealers will be like. The couple I've spoken to won't get as much stock as they want.
You can ride exactly like that today because you'll never know it is there. Except now you don't have to wash out the front end in a panic stop and you don't have to high-side and break your neck because you goosed the throttle a bit much on corner exit.
Sure you can turn all this electronic nannying off but the point for me is I don't want or need it AND most crucially it's making bikes very expensive and out of reach for a lot of potential owners. If a 1000cc bike is too much to handle without electronics then pick something smaller!
Like what they have done and good review. I think its good you cant turn TC off whilst riding. Imagine accidentally turning it off whilst riding and throwing yourself in the bushes.
I can't say I've ever thought my MT10SP needed more electronics. What is this obsession now days with so many electronics? Half the time I switch them off completely or dial them way way back. I appreciate the safety of electronics. Wheelie control that allows a decent wheelie but no more is also good for a numpty like me. Having said that, I'm happy with my ZX6R with basic TC.
Absolutely love the looks of the previous generation. I would still go for the SP on the newer generation due to the electronics and suspension, even though I like the old generation's looks more

Mt10 is cool and all, but the mt09 is where it is at. The extra weight, power, and cost just aren’t worth it.

The MT-10 is a beautiful bike well my 2019 is. I know people don't like the looks but when you're riding it listening to it. looks are secondary.

I’m stuck between a 21 09sp or a 22 10sp. About $4k difference. Better brakes and computer driven suspension adjustments. A shit ton more hp too.

I bought a MT10SP in 2020 and the only thing I'm missing is a blipper. I won't upgrade to the new SP because I really don't like the looks

TBH I would consider ABS and TC, conventional or not, rider aids.
