    I KNOW how much work you put into this treasure, Julie. The finished piece is beautiful and you should be so proud of yourself. I love old pieces too and have done a lot of refinishing of wooden furniture. Thank you for sharing. I would love to see more of what and how you do this kind of thing. So glad you wore a mask ! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy !

    Juliie. Thank you for sharing . My family had the exact same ice-box in our cottage in 1942. We used it every summer for years . I w3ould love to have it today in my kitchen . It would be right at home with my stove circa 1928, I enjoy all your programs so very much.

    Beautiful! I just purchased an antique White Mountain ice box which I’ll be using, and your video is so very helpful. Love!

    The ice box looks sharp-good job, Julie! It does take alot more work than you think once you get going but so worth it in the end! You're right about the provenance of your piece and you both love and enjoy using your pieces too! It's fine to leave the White Mountain label as is-you add to the provenance. Labeling parts is always a good idea! (learned that the hard way!) Happy Father's Day to Joe, if you celebrate. Keep on keepin' on!

    This is so awesome. Yay for bravery! The lead paint aspect was something I had thought about while doing my secretary desk as well. But I'm glad you wore a mask, especially because you were sanding in a small space with no air movement.

      @@JulieKeeperofMyHome Yes, you do! I think this would be a great drink cooler on a covered porch, etc. What a splendid antique.

    You should invest in a sand blasting cabinet and a sand blaster....It would make quick work of the smaller bits and bobs. Like screws, hinges, knobs and that Name Plackard. Looks wounderful. Good job!!

      Thank you! My brother offered me to use his. I just figured this wasn't an overly large project, so just decided to do it by hand instead.

    Your ice box looks beautiful.
    I had my parents old wooden ice box but unfortunately about 40 yrs ago I was talked into giving it away to one of my husband's family. So sorry I did, have even thought about begging for it back even if I had to pay for it. So enjoy and love that piece. I hesitated to watch this for fear of sad memories but I'm glad I did and I'm so happy for you.

      Oh, Martha! I'm so sorry to hear this! I pray that the situation is resolved someday. 🙏 I certainly know what it's like to be in your shoes, and how difficult the memories are every time the thought of the item passes through your mind. At the end of the day, things are just things. It's our "heavenly treasures" that our hearts and minds should hold onto. 💞

    Don't know if it has been mentioned, or relevant in this situation. Though a lead paint concern may have been.i know your project is complete and it looks very nice.
    Caution, the particles from sanding are very combustible when airborne also when the settle and gather in some areas, like near, in and around a furnace or water heater if gas. So if your furnace or water heater are located in an open area in your basement. Be wary of this.
    Nicely finished project.

      Thank you!! Your concerns are much appreciated! Although I did not realize this, I was sure to do a thorough clean-up at the time. 🙏

    The old icebox turned out fantastic and the color is perfect! The prep work is the worst!!! My least favorite part of any paint job. I love the old chippy look. But at least now it won't rust through. Want to come strip the rest of the paint off my old porch swing? ;) One down and one to go. The almost 100* temps is melting me like the Wicked Witch of the West. Happy Week. :)

    • @JulieKeeperofMyHome
      @JulieKeeperofMyHome  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Send some warm weather our way. We have had maybe two days without rain in two weeks. Today's high temperature was 49* with rain. Tomorrow 50* with rain, and tomorrow night 38*. Where is our summer?
      I would happily come help strip your porch swing. Wouldn't we have fun!
      I'm STILL working on the porch. THIS RAIN! 😡 I'm hoping to have it up on Thursday. 🙏 Stay cool! 🥰

    And then don't paint it. By the way what was it that you used for paint I don't believe I have seen it before. Looks great nice job

    • @JulieKeeperofMyHome
      @JulieKeeperofMyHome  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Rustolium Universal spray paint. We chose it because it will protect the ice box from further decay. It sits on our 3 season screened porch. It is kept free from snow and rain, but moisture is always an issue.
