People are saying this isn't worth watching... Yeah he isn't "teaching" screaming.. But for Someone like me how can already scream this is useful.. He's teaching you how to not blow out an fuck up your voice.. Pay attention kids
gorillas213 not relevant in this day and age. For a time before our politically correct society. If you want a label, you gotta be a nice guy in the industry nowadays. “Badasses” just get made fun of: see 5FDP
Fits Fitserton not necessarily. I scream every day and after 3 years my singing range has actually increased and gotten stronger, and I don't eat differently then most people. Drinking caffeine before singing isn't a great and before screaming is a worse idea but it isn't super necessary depending on how you scream and how you sing. But, unlike Michael, I do false chord screams, which don't actually use your vocal chords and therefore don't affect singing.
I've been doing a lot of research on fitness because I'm about to make a total body transformation. Tonight I'm looking up how to sing scream because I'm also a musician and I want that powerful voice I know I have somewhere within me. To hear this first video and see that the diet and exercise is crucial to developing my voice only makes it that much sweeter for me. I'm about to achieve two INCREDIBLY AWESOME THINGS!!!
I would recommend listening to this guy. Ignore any haters in the comments cause they don't get the point. But listen to this guy. He's a professional singer/screamer and his live performances easily shows how much he knows about this stuff. I just recently went to Rock the Universe and saw him.
This video was useful. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I want to get started learning screaming. What are some exercises can I do to warm up before screaming? And how do I scream safely? Thank you.
He gave tips on keeping hydrated after singing/screaming at a concert, so don't worry about protein bars and 3 bottles of water to repair the voice unless you were singing the night before at a concert.
I was under the impression that screaming, especially in heavy metal, alternative and rock, was not usually screaming in the colloquial sense, but more of an illusion of screaming by making a much quieter sound (what you might imagine a pterodactyl to sound like) while making a face as though you were screaming. This makes more sense, given the strain and damage that actual screaming can have on the voice. I can't imagine someone having a very long career if they were actually screaming... That said, I imagine these "tips" are still pretty valid, but for all singers.
This video is too advanced for me, I need the very basics of *how*-- BUT I'm glad I got to hear RED, I think the music in this video is awesome. And, the vocals are great. Totally representative of what I'm shooting for.
If you mean louder I don't think screaming is naturally that loud, its just the mic you use. I don't know though, I know Levi Benton from Miss May I said that his screams aren't that loud in a Hot Topic interview.
I've been practicing screaming for quite a while now, about 3 years, the technique I've been using is the "growl", a good example of that would be Opeth. Sometimes i'll be at the top of my game, screaming fairly well, not hurting my voice at all, but some other times, I tend to not get a good sound, and specifically hurt my voice bad Now, I don't seem to follow most of these tips, mostly due to ignorance my ignorance, but could there be any other factor hindering my performance?
how important is physical exercise? I'm tryng to get my voice student to do yoga- - in particular the yoga that really focuses on abs work- is this the rught approach
Yeah, it seems like all the people on here seem to think that once they watch a TH-cam video of someone screaming, they will "magically" be able to do it. They will probably stop once they learn it can take months (or longer) to train your voice to scream like Michael Barnes, Jake Luhrs, Christian Alvestam etc.
Okay so i can do some without any training at all. But after like a verse of damage im done for like two days. So is this how i can make it longer just double checking
155 grams of protein a day!? I'm vegan so i'm already well aware of my protein intake but... how do you handle... the protein farts? Or does that just not happen to some people? Does your body adjust to that amount of protein eventually? Any tips for that?
I've been doing scream vocals for exactly 6 years and I have a very bad stamina when I perform on stage, I'm a very sporty person, I play sports and stuff to get fit. So what does that means? I just need tips on how to have stamina while screaming on stage.
Well.... I've got my screams and all fine but I can't get my voice to sound as gritty as I would like when I'm singing regularly.... I'd like to try and sound gritty like say James Hetfield, Dave Mustaine, and yes I'm honestly gonna say this.. Andy Biersack, just the part of getting my voice to sound kind of gritty though... and I don't want to smoke like they all have done soo... any tips?
Im new to this so sorry if youve already answered this question but, what i wanna know is how do i learn to build up to screaming cause when im singing high notes its sounds ok but its kinda quiet how do i fix that?
Hey bro I'm a drummer but I would like to do some background vocals and screaming but I dount know how to do it right and I dount know if my voice is good enough any tips or advise on starting up?
If you can drum heavily for a full song without breaking a sweat, then you're perfect to start background screaming while drumming. just take a few decent lessons and kepp healthy as fuck
I notice that as i go higher and actually through my first bridge, i pull up chest voice more and more, and if i try to thin out, the fry quality goes away and i can't seem to be able to harness it let alone make it louder and bigger and eventually develop it into a full tone. Do you have any tips on how to remedy that?
Thanks, Tore my voice and I'm trying to rebuild it for my band. This Channel and your coaching has helped! Also, make sure to check our channel out, were working on some songs, Solos, covers. - J from Skydiving Upwards
I am a quiet person, barely talk at all (in front of people), so when I scream I squeal, making this high pitched sound that is more like a whisper but kinda fails at times. I have a good singing voice, but do you think I can still sing medal using my scream (squeal)?
So like I'm a beginner and i eat and drink a lot of sugary stuff so like do i just slowly stop or what....... and um like so would i be able to have like a can of pop a week and still be good
For me as a 3 year choral singing and currently studying voice in college, your junk food and drinks wont ruin you but i feel it does plays a roll in vocal ability. I suggest you don't eat or drink junk, alcohol, or even dairy before and while you sing but you may after you are finished for the day. But if you feel down the road that you want to transition into a healthier diet, i recommend it fully. Makes you feel much cleaner and clearer when it comes to vocal ability
labrosvirvilis the best I can describe it is that is like your regular singing voice. growls are usually the bass parts, mids can bring you to tenor, and then screams can bring you to alto and soprano singing voices. I could try to explain it in a video.
Everybody's being a dick. Anyway, when you'r doing this, it will hurt your voice but you'll get better at it and it'll hurt less. I think eminem is just yelling and breathing out a lot of air. Not sure what beyonce does since I don't really listen to her. Maybe a growl like jazz/R&B singers do? For that, just just look up growl vids. For eminem, work your diaphragm. Hiss (blow air through your teeth) as long as you can, using as much air as you can, for as even as you can. Try to make it last 10-12 seconds. Then go up a piano scale saying "WHOA" in a dopey and deep voice, breathing out a lot of air. It won't work if the "WHOA" sound is high pitch. Keep it sounding low pitch even when you're getting to your vocal chest voice limit. And of course, rap his songs ALL THE TIME, with an obsession, and try to mimic him. Hope that helps!
Im barely starting to scream to songs like Mudvayne, Slipknot, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, and after like 15 min of screaming what I've notice is that once i get to sing high notes my vocals starts messing up idk how exactly to say it but i doesn't sound clear any reasons why its happening?
"get as mutch sleep as possible"
watches this at night
True
I sometimes don't know how big touring bands do it when they have shows night after night.
Jc Nopal metalheads are nocturnal creatures..... 🤘😂
Jc Nopal meeee
I'm watching this at 2 am
Michael is so talented.
People are saying this isn't worth watching... Yeah he isn't "teaching" screaming.. But for Someone like me how can already scream this is useful.. He's teaching you how to not blow out an fuck up your voice.. Pay attention kids
This vid is crazy. I never knew this skill took such commitment. Lol I have to change the way I eat now
Red is one of my very favorite bands ever
is this a fitness video or a screaming video
more so a fitness video. because being healthy and making healthy choices helps you in preparation and performance.
Carl Arcilesi yeah maybe in a boy band lmao. Wtf happened to sex, drugs and rock n roll.
gorillas213 ok
gorillas213 not relevant in this day and age. For a time before our politically correct society. If you want a label, you gotta be a nice guy in the industry nowadays. “Badasses” just get made fun of: see 5FDP
That explains how he preserved his voice after 11 years of screaming and high notes.
Micheal is always awesome
So basically in order to scream you need to eat like.a bodybuilder. Got it!
Haha only if youre on the road touring and scream daily
Fits Fitserton not necessarily. I scream every day and after 3 years my singing range has actually increased and gotten stronger, and I don't eat differently then most people. But, unlike Michael, I do false chord screams, which don't actually use your vocal chords and therefore don't affect singing.
Whether you like them or not, he has amazing voice
I can't believe this! I wanted to learn how to scream, and suddenly found out the lead from one of my favourite bands did a vid about it. Thanks Mike.
I've been doing a lot of research on fitness because I'm about to make a total body transformation. This video was useful. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I want to get started learning screaming. What are some exercises can I do to warm up before screaming? And how do I scream safely? Thank you.
Thank you
this video should be titled "How to Prep to scream"
I just saw him last night and he kicked asssssssss!!!
His music is great
He gave tips on keeping hydrated after singing/screaming at a concert, so don't worry about protein bars and 3 bottles of water to repair the voice unless you were singing the night before at a concert.

I LOVE YOU GUYS!!

great tips, thank u
This helps alot
In making a song for my album and its pop but I kind of want to experiment with this technique and merge pop and rock xoxo
This video is too advanced for me, I need the very basics of *how*-- BUT I'm glad I got to hear RED, I think the music in this video is awesome. And, the vocals are great. Totally representative of what I'm shooting for.
@TopherBlairMusic I agree! that's the rock scream I'm looking for too
If you mean louder I don't think screaming is naturally that loud, its just the mic you use. I don't know though, I know Levi Benton from Miss May I said that his screams aren't that loud in a Hot Topic interview.

Now, I don't seem to follow most of these tips, mostly due to ignorance my ignorance, but could there be any other factor hindering my performance?
Awesome
Well, at least I've learned some really good diet
how important is physical exercise? I'm tryng to get my voice student to do yoga- - in particular the yoga that really focuses on abs work- is this the rught approach
Not looking to scream...yet, but will these same tips help when learning to sing more melodic genres?
I love u guys ^^
@a3axon lol, there live shows are kinda like that too, it's awesome :)
welk my questions is: does over exercising causes to hurt or to cut the vocal strings
I want to learn how to scream like Lacey from Flyleaf. any tips?
She does Inhale screams. Look them up they only take like an hour to learn
How do you "Fry scream" and "growl" like you do in feed the machine?
Yeah, it seems like all the people on here seem to think that once they watch a TH-cam video of someone screaming, they will "magically" be able to do it. They will probably stop once they learn it can take months (or longer) to train your voice to scream like Michael Barnes, Jake Luhrs, Christian Alvestam etc.
hi, i am an alto female.. and id like to learn to sing rock songs properly.. without hurting my throat, straining.. or if you have any tips..
This is pretty much what I do for bodybuilding....
Sick I'ma start screaming as well
have you heard release the panic?
Do you guys know a band called Needtobreathe and this song called Wash by the Water? Im trying to song like the singer lol any tips?
BRETT MANING'S SINGING AND SCREAMING SUCCES. FUCK YES.
Is this the same technique thath Tyler Joseph uses?
This is only part one?
What should it feel like if i'm screaming correctly/incorrectly
Okay so i can do some without any training at all. But after like a verse of damage im done for like two days. So is this how i can make it longer just double checking
so this food you said to stay away and eat are really good for singers?
Do a video on how to scream like Lennon in Twist and Shout? Damnit, if only he were alive to make one :(
YAY from Red XD
the fire in the background of the video was fucking LEGIT lol
Definitely a lot more complicated than I originally thought xD
THANK FUCKING GOD A TUTORIAL ON SINGING ROCK SONGS

I came here to scream...Not to diet...
I want to know how to contract my voice
What song is this in the beginning
I can scream fairly well, NY channel for proof. Growls are easy enough as well as mids but highs are the thing I cannot do yet..
155 grams of protein a day!? I'm vegan so i'm already well aware of my protein intake but... how do you handle... the protein farts? Or does that just not happen to some people? Does your body adjust to that amount of protein eventually? Any tips for that?
+eric cartman Buttplug
I've been doing scream vocals for exactly 6 years and I have a very bad stamina when I perform on stage, I'm a very sporty person, I play sports and stuff to get fit. So what does that means? I just need tips on how to have stamina while screaming on stage.
Breathing exercises. Look up diaphragm stretching you could just be using too much air when you are performing
what was that song at the beginning when he said "check this out"? 0:30
Feed the machine by Red
thanks Kobee Alsop
micheal and jimmie strimmel scream gods
Well.... I've got my screams and all fine but I can't get my voice to sound as gritty as I would like when I'm singing regularly.... I'd like to try and sound gritty like say James Hetfield, Dave Mustaine, and yes I'm honestly gonna say this.. Im new to this so sorry if youve already answered this question but, what i wanna know is how do i learn to build up to screaming cause when im singing high notes its sounds ok but its kinda quiet how do i fix that?
How to sing like M.Shadow from a7x
+Ahmad Zulfadhli Be a talented singer and master the pseudo scream.
how to sing like David Draiman from Disturbed.
Just realized this was posted exactly 2 years ago
im 15 does it work for me?
Hey bro I'm a drummer but I would like to do some background vocals and screaming but I dount know how to do it right and I dount know if my voice is good enough any tips or advise on starting up?
If you can drum heavily for a full song without breaking a sweat, then you're perfect to start background screaming while drumming. just take a few decent lessons and kepp healthy as fuck
How do I scream with volume

Red feed the machine
David Leatherman ty
Hahahahahaha! This made my day.
I have a question, whenever I try I always end up doing a whisper scream lol, how to I get louder?
What song plays in the intro of this video?
Maybe "Feed the Machine"
Yup, thats it. Thanks.
One of my favorite singers. Phenomenal voice. I don't care for the screaming though.
shit, needed this a year ago lol
@TopherBlairMusic i prefer Paul's screaming look moonkberry moon delight
Thanks, Tore my voice and I'm trying to rebuild it for my band. This Channel and your coaching has helped! Also, make sure to check our channel out, were working on some songs, Solos, covers. - J from Skydiving Upwards
how does one do low types of scearms
Open your voice box more and have your mouth tightly open, not wide open
I am a quiet person, barely talk at all (in front of people), so when I scream I squeal, making this high pitched sound that is more like a whisper but kinda fails at times. I have a good singing voice, but do you think I can still sing medal using my scream (squeal)?
It's a mental thing. You can give yourself much more power.
You can probably get it decently deeper with some food practice.
Oh, I forgot this video existed and commented. I could get it in, but I'm just too lazy to do it :p
I like how every part has a slightly different variant on the title, like they forgot it every time they posted a new video haha.
It begins...
Id try this but my voice might still be changing
So like I'm a beginner and i eat and drink a lot of sugary stuff so like do i just slowly stop or what....... and um like so would i be able to have like a can of pop a week and still be good

thanks ive been working on it and sorry I haven't got back to u and I was wondering if u still do videos can u give me a shout out if not its okay
Someone paid attention in Biology! MICHAEL ROCKS!
I can sing using my screaming voice, is that a big deal or can all metal vocalists do that?
+sha-d paul Please tell me how you do that.i've been trying for a very long time...I can scream but the timbre of my voice is not there at all
labrosvirvilis the best I can describe it is that is like your regular singing voice. growls are usually the bass parts, mids can bring you to tenor, and then screams can bring you to alto and soprano singing voices. I could try to explain it in a video.
+sha-d paul is there a video of you screaming so i can hear you?
sadly no. :( but i'll record one soon. :)
+sha-d paul Good vocalists can do that. Bad ones sit on a few notes.
I am looking for the scream singing like eminem does when he raps like his voice becomes strong or beyonce does that have a name?
yeah ik it's a detail can't seem to find anything about it it's like shouting at the same time but without hurting your voice beyonce does it alot
owh come on :p yeah i get it
dude, you need to look at skillet. on other hand. it's basics of shouts which Phinehas does a lot.
when the fuck does eminem scream
Everybody's being a dick. Anyway, when you'r doing this, it will hurt your voice but you'll get better at it and it'll hurt less. I think eminem is just yelling and breathing out a lot of air. Not sure what beyonce does since I don't really listen to her. Maybe a growl like jazz/R&B singers do? For that, just just look up growl vids. For eminem, work your diaphragm. I think the high of screaming is connected with the high of voice, try to use higher register to scream the same notes...
Kill the Machine off their album "Until We Have Faces"
CHESTER HAS SOME COMP!
