First time i heard this sonata played with so much passion ! Vladimir Ashkenazy had so great TECHNIC, but still, it's not his (virtuosity) that he show in this interpretation, He simply showed what Beethoven (SURELY) Wanted ! Emotion, Surpise, Sens of the phrase .... Contrast ... So much Voice crossing each other ... Nuances, Voices, Melody, Emotion, etc ... Are where they should be ! I really really enjoy how he respect Beethoven ! He didn't put too much (EXTREM ROMANTISM) We completely feel the (period)... I don't know ... It's as if i can imagine easily a Piano Forte when he play ... BRAVO !!!!!!!!!
I used to have the LP box set of Ashkenazy’s performances of the piano concertos. I played those albums over and over. His Beethoven interpretation is one of the best of all time.
Beethoven creates a masterpiece here by violating almost every convention of the sonata form: a tempestuous second movement, movements in disproportion with each other, a third movement of thema and variations which sounds as if it could stand on its own...And yet for all this (or because of this), it is one of the most beautiful sonatas ever written.
@@veronicaibanez4177 it is truly beautiful. The main theme is composed like a Bach chorale. And the variations with the return of the original theme resembles the structure of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. The more I listen to this sonata, the more I hear Bach’s influence.

この曲、最初に聞いたときは何も感じなかったけど
今は何故か三楽章を何度も聴きたくなってくる。
出だしの寂し気な旋律から次々と変化していく感じがとても
心が揺さぶられます。
この人の演奏方法なのかもしれないけど、一音一音しっかりと噛み締めるような感じがします。
ベートーヴェンは耳が悪かったので音に対する感情が他の作曲家とは少し違うのかな。
