As trainees they were required to perform a solo, duet, and group cover song that they arranged and produced for monthly evaluation. This is one of those. It became famous in the Kpop world. This TV show was hosted by J Y Park, CEO of JYP Entertainment (Twice). It's likely he saw them perform this as trainees and requested it for the TV show. YG and JYP cooperate. The rap lyrics were written by Jennie and Lisa, arrangement likely by Jisoo with Rose'.
They also performed a dance routine on the show from their trainee days and were interviewed. Also Jennie and Rose' sang on several G Dragon EP's and MV's with Lisa performing as dancer in another MV while trainees.

Would love if you can react to Jennie’s live performance of “solo remix” it has a brand new rap she wrote herself for solo and a little extra dance but at the end…. And normally I’m not into remixes… but this one really is SUCH a good one and not too different from the original but def worth a watch!!

Enough about my bias…. But this performance has always been a favorite of mine bc it shuts up all the people who say they’re all autotune and can’t sing which clearly they can. Rosie in this song with her sweet tone and effortless runs just hit different.. she sounds incredible and I have always loved jisoos voice in this one in particular .. her tone almost has a velvet quality to it .. that may not make sense … but it’s only way I can describe it but ugh it sounds so good here especially… and Lisa of course bringing the swag, and adlibs with just her aura elevates any performance.
That’s it for individuals but as a group this is one of the best uses of the four different girls, their positions and their teamwork is so strong to be able to sing it like this. They’re all harmonizing and weaving in and out of main parts, harmonies and adlibs through the whole thing and just bouncing off each other the whole time in some pretty complex parts bc there is multiple different parts happening at the same time which can be really distracting but they totally bodied this and really shows their skills and bond as a group. The end with Jennie and Lisa bouncing back and forth with the rap that they wrote themselves is the chefs kiss 100%… it’s so much fun and still one of the best ways I’ve ever seen a cover done.. they killed this!
This is the 4 of them possibly at their best. And they're just sitting with mics. MAN!! how talented are they??? This entire show is a Blackpink appearance on Party People (which is by the way a top competitor to YGs venue show). They come out and KILL a medley of their hits singing and dancing better than ever (Crowd goes crazy,... there's a live audience standing like American Bandstand or Soul Train here in states). They come back and do JUST a dance performance to Beyonce's Partition (possibly the hottest thing they have EVER done). They talk to the hosts in between & Rose' plays guitar and sings. They rip this SURE THING out. Which DEFINITELY IS one of their absolute best performances. How great a team are they here??

I found out about BlackPink from watching BlackPink House and 24/365 with BlackPink, before I even listened to their music. They are like reality shows and it let's you see the girls how they act just doing different things.

Great reaction. To come up quickly on their personalities I would suggest reacting to "An Unhelpful Guide to Blackpink, 2019 version" (you will fall hard for each and every member). The 2020 version is nowhere near as entertaining. For great background info on Blackpink and YG (their management agency), react to "The Revolution, A Story of Blackpink" by Asian Theory (really well done). What you aren't going to get is the huge intense effort that YG went through for Trainee selection. Lisa competed against 4,000 talented Thai teens auditioned by YG, for a spot that wasn't even guaranteed. She was the only one selected. Rose competed against 700 Australian talented teens auditioned by YG for a spot that wasn't even guaranteed for anyone. Rose was the only one selected. The YG Trainee Program had about 30 to 40 trainees, where the trainees trained for 14 hours a day, 13 days straight one day off. No dating, no tattoos, no driving, eating at Company cafeteria, sleeping in Company dorm. Over a 6 year period of "brutal cold hearted" training and monthly reviews (Jennie's words), YG whittled the trainees down to Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rose. They all considered quitting at various times and relied on each other to survive (think Marine training camp but for 4 to 6 years). They are all talented savages for having survived.
There is NO ONE like Jisoo. She arguably got the most troll hate after they premiered. I think it went from attacking Lisa to attacking Jisoo. It just wouldn't be Blackpink without Jisoo. She adds SO MUCH to this group. SHE IS ESSENTIAL!!! And she is a boss. She's a great dancer, a great singer,.. and you have to see her acting performances. Whether it's drama, lighter fare or spy thriller, her character in every situation is the one you would never expect to have something more going on. There is a natural innocence that makes everything that comes out of her like the last thing you would ever guess is there. She pulls it off like a pro every time.

Not sure if you remember the original, but that rap was not in it. Jennie and Lisa wrote and put that together themselves. This cover proves to me the Jisoo could do an all English solo song beautifully. And Rose' as always does her part perfectly... also love how this song is done in her natural vocal area and not pulled high.

Another thing about this performance. Until Lisa yells at the crowd, you would never guess they are surrounded by people standing on dance floors. All you can hear are their voices. It's only when they finish (and btw Jisoo shoots the cutest smile in the history of smiling) that you hear the audience.

This is the original version of this song , it's a classic, but I like the cover more.
Black Pink only did this song once before this show , during their trainee days at monthly evaluation , when the host of this show asked them to do some cover they just did this without rehearsal.
