I'll try this when I get my Raspberry Pi 5 that should ship by the end of this month. Would like a more detailed video on how to set this all up from start to finish... Especially the dns and ssl parts. Thanks!
Absolutely outstanding video Frank. Very clear and easy to follow. I haven’t yet played with CasaOS, but after seeing this video, I just might. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching, Tony! I am really impressed with just how simple CasaOS is - even for things like hardware transcoding. One-click installation and it's done. Overall, seems to be a pretty good OS! Happy Thanksgiving!
Clouldflare tunnels may be a better option over port forwarding to access internal services, but nice video. Going to try to set up a casaos server on an old mini pc.
I definitely agree if you're comparing it to straight port forwarding, but I like this option since you have to connect to the VPN to access any of the services. If I was exposing an individual service outside of my local network though, I'd definitely consider a Cloudflare Tunnel!
Good day, Anyone able to confirm where we put the 172.17.0.1 IP - Wireguard setting location or Pi-hole dns location. TY - or do you put 172.17.0.1 in the IPV4 dns on your PC network setting?
quick doubt, when doing the whole subdomain and reverse proxy step, if my internet is down and I am connected to my local network, will i still be able to access the containers with their respective domain names because I setup local DNS? Or during that downtime, I will have to use ip-addresses on my client to access the web-ui's?
@@WunderTechTutorials thank you, also is there a rule in ufw where I can add my whole ip addresses range in lan? All my devices are currently in 192.168.100.x . Currently after building an Ubuntu server homeland, each docker port I have to manually open in ufw
Hi, I'm a fan of your channel and I got an old PC to do some stuff. I installed Ubuntu Server 20.04 and Casaos. I've tried everything and I can't install Pi-Hole on Casaos because it seems that the 2 host ports 53 are occupied. Can you help me?
That error means something is using the DNS port, so you'll have to figure out what it is. It can be a service, the host OS, etc. It really depends what you have running on it.
I have NPM installed on a home assistant add on running baremetal. I have open and foward the ports but i cant get the https to work. Any help is appreciated. I am also self taught.
Yes! Pi-hole is really only used for local DNS in this instance, so if you have a local DNS server (or just want to create a local DNS record), there's no need for Pi-hole.
This is just my opinion so don't take it as anything more than that: I think Cloudflare Tunnels are great, but I don't like that Cloudflare sits in the middle of it in terms of a password manager. For just about anything else, I think it's fine, but I don't personally love that the master password would be encrypted and decrypted by Cloudflare. I'd prefer it to be sent straight to the server, preferably through a VPN. They're a huge company and trusted in the Cybersecurity space so I don't think it's a huge deal and I'm not saying you should change it, but it's something to point out. I prefer a VPN if at all possible for stuff like that.
@@WunderTechTutorials I sit behind a 4G GCNAT and I cannot bridge that modem or i will lose access to features, that is then plucgged into my Omada Router so I am Double NATTED if thats a word, so there is no possible way for me to open any ports even if i wanted to .. I cannot see any other way to host vaultwarden locally only ..I know that would mean sync would not happen when away from home but i would be OK with that.. I also think that means I cannot use NGNIX Proxy Manager
i'm tryharding to do this, i don't have pihole on casa and pivpn. I've managed to setup everything but i can't get stuff to work and i don't know where to ask. I'm trying to do this without buying a DNS preferably, i've seen people do it with pihole DNS managment/cert, i'm using pivpn/wireguard to connect to my network so that's why i'm trying to skip buying the dns and that i don't need it that much. any help would be appreciated! just to mention, i have pihole setup and it works outside my network/i can access everything with pivpn,
The best way to start is to configure Pi-hole and see if you can get a single client working. If you can, move on to configuring your network to use it.
@@WunderTechTutorials pihole is configured, only problems i'm having is configuring bitwarden, it's all set up and everything but creating an account gives me an error "this browser needs https", the SSL stuff, that's where i'm lost about how to configure without a dns/etc
@@WunderTechTutorials I understand, as i saw people having it without, just didn't feel like paying for a DNS as it's not something i would need or use that much except for this
Made easy? Not with all of the "I'm not going to cover that here". I usually like your presentations, but bailed out 2/3s into into this one because continuity got lost.
That's fair and I appreciate the feedback. I have a constant internal struggle with deciding what to show when I've already done a video on it. Most of the videos I make can be 2-3x longer if I don't include written instructions, reference other videos, etc, but I'll keep it in mind for the next video!
Yeah, I have some questions or clarification needs as well but I prefer to be referenced to where to get that clarification rather than hear stuff I know. This would make a good series with more in depth detail on each topic.
@@ms7165 You summarized my struggle very well. In my head, I think of things like blocks. Using multiple "blocks" to complete the setup by referencing different videos/articles. If connecting to Cloudflare ever changes, I can simply update the link on "how to connect to Cloudflare" - the video will still be valid, and the viewer would never know the "block" was updated. If it's included in this video, users might be lost and the whole video could then be out of date. I also try to think of the people who already know how to do it and/or have already done it, so for them, that "block" is already complete. With that said, I think the views speak for themselves and this format simply isn't working for a lot of people. I'm putting a lot of thought into how I can improve them.

Since it's all local, as long as the DNS and reverse proxy servers stay up, the service will be reachable.
