I love Lacombe too :) I also have these two Alice volumes which I adore (mine are both the French editions) - and I've had that English edition of Wonderland on pre-order for over three years - they keep delaying the publication date so I've almost abandoned hope that it will ever be released... Beautiful flip-through video, and lol at the idea of 'cheating' on illustrators - my Alice collection is embarrassingly large - I love how creative the different interpretations are!
Oh, that's unfortunate, that they keep delaying the English release, I was not aware of that. :/ But yay, another Lacombe fan! Thanks for the kind words, and yeah, like I said, it's irrational to feel like it's cheating and I've definitely been tempted by other Alice editions before. It's certainly inspired lots of beautiful art out there. :)
If you can limit yourself to one favourite edition it's definitely much better on the wallet and the floorboards (mine are groaning from overstuffed bookcases due to my terrible inability to do this, ha)
Both of the books look great! I really like the design as well as the illustrations. I thought the endpapers were very nicely designed (in both books). I agree that the illustrations have a surreal look, which complements each of the stories well. I really like the fold out pages and the nonsensical black and red ink drawings throughout the books. I am a huge Lewis Carroll fan (not just of the Alice stories) and have a nice collection of his books and puzzles/games. I will certainly keep a look out for these editions. Thanks for sharing!

I just ordered Alice de l'autre Cote du Miroir - I'm excited to review and read it. It's been 40+ years since I took French, so it will be a challenge, but worthwhile I'm sure. I've also pre-ordered the English edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (delivery in October). I will let you know how the reading goes. Thanks again for sharing!

I'm talking about a portrait of a lady, with a bird in her shoulder and the bird's eye is overlapping with hers. have you seen it? If you can help me telling me in what book is this I will appreciate :D

Otherwise the only other picture that came to mind is this one static1.lecteurs.com/media/cache/book_large/files/books-covers/776/9791023500776_1_75.jpg which is the illustration on the slipcase of a special 2 part edition of Lacombe´s Petit Sorciere and Grimoire des sorcieres books. Lacombe seems to love this pose, he did the same with Marie Antoinette and a wolf as well. Anyway, I hope it is one of them and I could be of help! :D

:) Those are part of a beautiful series of 12 fairy tale books by Andrew Lang, published by the Folio Society, called the rainbow fairy book set, because each book is named after its colour. They are super beautiful, illustrated books that are sadly all out of print except for the pink and red ones, but one can still track some of them down second hand.
