Roy's marthritis is much worse than Marth's. After a certain percent he has no way to setup his kills without mindgames.
In case anyone was wondering if Zain could be doing more, I think so. Zain could be edgeguarding with (slightly charged even) neutral Bs more often--one variation being jumping out / fullhopping and another being just charging it at ledge, it's sometimes better than Fsmash at ledge imo. And he could incorporate more neutral airs and sideBs strings in his neutral, but yeah, he's got the solid neutral and most other things down, good stuff to him for being able to do it with Roy.
I have seen M2K and LAG extend that chainthrow to death. Looks very hard though.
I feel like there’s this agenda for melee players to hate Roy for no other reason that that Marth is top tier. So much talk about “if you’re Roy you have to read”, the noodle sword, etc. just mocking Roy. The playstyle is completely different. He does different things. They comment once on Roy’s strengths but then repeatedly bring up Roy’s weaknesses. Imagine if everything Falco did people just talked about his weak recovery, bad forward smash, and how he struggles to kill relative to Fox. If “most people haven’t figured that out”, it’s probably not just a fluke. I demand respect for Roy‼️ Roy’s our boy‼️
@@stormcutter59 I always loved Roy including before Zain started playing. Name me one character that doesn’t have to win neutral . It’s not like Roy is as good as Fox or Jigglypuff. But Roy is definitely better than Mario, Samus, Link, and other mid tiers
@@stormcutter59 Jesus can I be allowed to just like Roy? If you have to know, there's no characters that require you to win neutral "several dozen times to take one stock." In fact, there are no characters in all of smash's entries that require that. And I specifically said that Roy is not as good as Fox; to suggest that any character can't beat one of the best characters in the game under certain situations means they're bad is a stretch. Spacies lose to Marth all the time and Marth is still regarded as being worse than Fox
@@chrisc4208 To be fair, you didn't say "I like Roy," you said "people who think Roy is bad are wrong." They're definitely not wrong for thinking that haha he has very major objective flaws that mid tiers don't have. The anchoring fallacy thing takes a major backseat to those.
The Falco analogy is inaccurate because he's got huge major strengths over Fox in a lot of areas. There's a reason that people have regarded Falco as top tier and Roy as low tier since the game came out. You can find differences in Fox and Falco playstyles easily by looking at their lasers, combo game, movement, etc.
I'm also curious what you mean when you say that Roy has a different playstyle than Marth. In this match it just looks to me like Zain's playing Marth but every combo is harder and he has to make reads to do edgeguards instead of being able to cover everything easily. Since you might know Roy fairly well, what in particular defines the special "Roy playstyle?"

As for the playstyle, Marth tends to want to keep the opponent in front of him and spaced out. He plays more slowly and reactive to the opponent. He doesn’t usually blow you up like falcon or puff. Marth prefers to play without platforms so that the opponent doesn’t have the opportunity to tech them, which can kill combos because of the spacing. Marth very rarely uses his double jump outside of his recovery. Marth kills either using the tipper or with an edge guard. He can go off of the stage to edge guard easily but his recovery is pretty much solved and a top player can keep him from getting back reliably.
Roy plays more like a fast-faller (which he is). He should be trying to get in your face and outspeed you instead of playing defensively. Roy should try to blow you up with combos since his moves individually are weak and have little knockback. Roy can use platforms to extend his combos because he wants to pop the opponent up and stay in close quarters anyway, so double jumping to the platform for a tech chase isn’t that big of a deal. Roy will try to kill you early at the end of his combos or with a rogue forward smash. Roy’s recovery doesn’t lend itself to effective off stage play, but he can go out in certain cases. He does however have a less predictable recovery because of how you can angle his up special.
The playstyles are different. Without commenting on whether one is better or worse, the playstyles have the differences I’ve highlighted above and probably more
To be fair Zain does play Roy a lot more like Marth than what I wrote but also even the commentators say that the Roy Discord is probably yelling at the screen because of the way Zain says Roy

Roy's sweet spot is on his hilt but he isn't fast enough to always hit the sweetspot of his arials, so when he sourspots all the time he doesn't get enough hitstun/hitlag to get combos. Basically he's to slow and moves are to weak

the fox player spends half the time running away from roy waiting on platforms and then engaging. Bad strategy. Shoulda played it like Leffen or Mango and gone straight in nonstop. FOX IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE SPEED ChARACter bRO. Roy does such terrible dmg his only plus is his range and ur letting him use it I mean CMON THIS IS OBVIOUS! Get in there and spam shine if u have to!

From just seeing this Zain will never win anything with his Roy. He is trying to force Roy to play like Marth but that isn't the way to play Roy at all. Zain has won a lot of tournaments but he has only done so with Marth and in this game speed always wins but Roy is fast but no one knows how to use his skillset properly. Roy can win tournaments but you have to know more about the character as he is different from Marth.

You either know very little about the game or just really arent paying attention. There are a ton of adjustments Zain makes when he plays Roy compared to Marth
clearly you guys dont know what you are talking about so let me clue you in, zain does play roy like a roy player, he just carries roy with his fundamentals, I main roy and I know for a FACT he is low tier, its not a hard concept to grasp.

Camping out Roy isn't optimal either. Rushing him down is what you're supposed to do because he has no good tools to get you off of him.
