- I'm still in Dublin today and I've headed down to the Black Forge Inn which is owned by the famous UFC Champion, Conor Mcgregor. I've heard the food here is absolutely excellent and naturally, I have to try his Irish Forged Stout!

It is a gimmick. If you’re looking to get into a bar fight then this is the place to go. Full of hotheads waiting to see you look in their direction so they can start on you. Garys lucky he went in during the day when its quiet.

Very fair review Gary. I've seen reviews of Conor's place before, especially by Irish reviewers, and they were more reviewing Conor and his politics and personality rather than his pub. They could not hide their bias. Fair play for giving your unbiased opinion on the place.

@@deadzio those show which allergens are in each dish. People may have to avoid wheat, peanuts or other items. Look at the bottom left of the menu for the list. It's been an industry standard for a few years now

@@GaryEats Fallows in London ought to be a place you try out. They do a lot of videos on TH-cam so you can preview what is happening there. I think you'd love it. I've never been much less have any skin in the game there. They do a chicken pie with the chickens neck and head rising above the pie. Its not cheap but not Michelin Star prices.

I'm sure the owner had input when hiring as he was putting his reputation at stake if he chose badly , the chef deserves recognition but the owner has more to lose financially and his credibility so not the chef that makes a place but a good one will earn a decent wage if he or she continues to pull the punters in.

@@normacoope8239 I think it also shows your attitude towards the person providing the service i.e. they are not your 'slave', but a professional/craftsperson helping you appreciate what good food/ingredients can and should be if done properly/with passion.

I am an ex-pat Irish man who has been living in Doha for 15 years now. I am just back from Dublin this evening (arrived at 12.30am on the 3.00pm Qatar Airways flight from Dublin) visiting my wife who lives there and, on the strength of Gary's trip to Black Forge, I went with my son and stepson for lunch on Wednesday (2 days ago) and must admit the place was amazing. The Bao Bum starter was unreal and the Sirloin served 'blue' on the stone was perhaps one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. Arriving just seared and genuinely 'blue', the steak cooks on a seriously hot slab of stone and can be brought to rare, medium or well done just by letting it stay on - or you can remove it at any time to suit your taste. A couple of bottles of excellent wine (NOT including a bottle of Petrus at Euro 17,500.00 which I stress I did not sample but is from Conor's own collection) paired well with the food and the service was exceptional. We sat at a high table beside the bar and attention to our needs was superb. Great review of a quality establishment from Gary that I can now vouch for, encapsulates a first class dining experience that I will definitely return to next trip back to the Emerald Isle.

Glad your trip across the Irish Sea was worth it Gary. The food looked great. This does not surprise me as on all my visits to Ireland I found the food and service in restaurants to be very good.

I’ve seen a few reviews for it and everyone had same opinions as you .. what’s nice is he didn’t just give his name to it as a cash n grab like so many he really wanted it to be top draw for that.. you got to respect that

Iv heard that Conor keeps the prices lower compared to other celebrity restaurants so that people who make less money can enjoy a good meal but not break the bank, how true that is I don't know. Absolutely agree. It looked quality, with ample food, nobody's going home hungry. The price seems very affordable to me compared to other restaurants. As a special treat... looks yummy!
That’s not good value at all even for a high-end (Dublin) restaurant. You also have to consider that this is located outside the city centre so prices should be lower than in the heart of the city centre with the cost of rent is much higher.
If the food is excellent quality, especially Lamb, its worth it imp

Morning Gary, as a recent subscriber to the channel, can I just remark on how easy it is to sit through your reviews? Most food reviewers tend to try and overpower us with flamboyance and over-exaggerated comments. You sir have a gift here, honest, down to earth conversations with the general public on what we actually care about - is the food good, is the ambiance good and is it good value for money. I think it’s been mentioned here previously but it genuinely is like having a yap with a good, trusted friend. You’re doing an incredible job here squire, keep sending it 😎

The whole grilled chili on the plate is really neat. It's entirely optional, but if you wan't to kick it up a notch heat wise - it's right there. They can plate it the same way for every order regardless of the customers preference or tolerance, and everybody's happy.
It really adds to the presentation and with the food as well, It was absolutely delicious

Fabulous review Gary, yes it warrants a Michelin star status. McGregor definitely went the extra distance to elevate an Irish pub. Those hot wings looked amazing and that lamb was your favorite I see. This is the standard that all famous/celebrity restaurants should strive towards.

6 euro for a pint of stout in Dublin is a crazy good price. Considering I paid near on 8 for a pint of lager in London and Dublin has never been cheap.

Since first coming across your channel a month or two ago, I'm sure I've watched every video now. There are loads of people on TH-cam doing food review style videos, but so many of them just focus on takeaway & the like & the reviews themselves are mediocre at best. You have a quality channel that is certainly worth subscribing too. You have a lovely, friendly way about you on camera & you take the time to give proper, detailed & honest reviews. You have a real knack of being able to take the viewer with you.
Your son does a great job with the videos... Establishing shots & capturing the look & feel of the restaurants you visit. I'm sure it's not always easy filming, but you guys do well to not bother anyone with your filming & choose quieter times to do it & in an un-intrusive way. It's easy to see why your channel is growing & why so many people love your reviews. It looks like my next visit to the UK will be in 2025 & from your reviews, I've noted down several restaurants which I will certainly include during that holiday.

I have said it before. Gary is the best food reviewer on TH-cam. He understands flavours and I have visited several of his recommended restaurants. We are going to Ireland for a road trip and this will be on our list although I don’t like Conner lol. Thanks Gary keep up the great work. The only food reviewer I trust for good recommendations

What a fantastic establishment. I loved the menu - some great dishes to choose from.
I tend to avoid chicken wings, not really my bag. I would have liked to have them served buffalo wings instead, more meat, fewer wings = less faff!
Lamb’s always my choice too, and it looked spectacular, and clearly tasted so.
For the money and location, it’s just shy of a 10, but a good 9.5 in my book.
I can’t tell you enough how much your excellent videos provide such great entertainment, and escapism given that I’m housebound. And it’s so heartwarming to see the incredible supportive comments made to the gentleman who is fighting cancer. 💙

Great review Gary, Always been put off because of the location, but well impressed, I have heard the food is exceptional there. Not sure I can be prised off my Guinness tho. I will definitely, as you say - Give it a go!

All pubs serve Guinness in Ireland with the exception of the above perhaps
Food is brilliant and I can highly recommend giving it a go
Good to see somewhere selling champ (mashed potatoes and spring onions). When last in Dublin I was served mashed potatoes with leeks and they argued it was champ, being Irish it was clear they made a concoction of mash plus whatever veg they had to hand.

I’ve predicted your score correctly on the last 4 or 5 videos, and after hearing you praise everything about the place - the staff, the near Michelin quality food, the stout, the decor and the tip of your hat, well it had to be a 10.

You gave another restaurant a 9.5 that I didn't think deserved it. This one looks fabulous. You never went to the kitchen before to compliment. I think this deserved a 10. I was in Ireland not too long ago and had nothing but terrible meals.
I felt a 9 was fair reflection of the meal.
Starter 8, Main Course 10 and I was heading to the chef to congratulate him on on the main it was superb and I have been many times just not mentioned in the video Jane

Everyone including Gary needs to lighten up, so what if he said Colin, Connor, Colm or fking Nigel, and Gary, for you to say 'is that all you got from this video' suggests an ego above the content on offer, you eat some food and say it's nice or not so nice, it's hardly the cutting edge content that I've come to expect from the CERN or NASA channels, lighten up and switch the ego off.
Thank you, Gary. Admired your Irish stout moustache at 2:05. The review had me craving both the wings and lamb. The price was very reasonable considering the quality and quantity. Especially the generous portion of mash. Two non prizefighters could easily share the meal. Well deserved 9/10.

We definitely eat with our eyes first, I generally don't even like lamb but as soon as that plate came out I was like WOW. Love a good stout as well.

Got to say that meal genuinely looked top notch, especially the main dish! Hats off to the chef - he's the one who served the meal.Think your score was justified - wings looked great but as u say wings are wings and not what I'd call special. Glad ur 2nd experience of the Emerald Isle was way better than that terrible fish and chips! Look forward to the next episode - "as always"!!!

This is the second review I've seen for the Black Forge. Both have been excellent. Pity you left some stout at the end. Reviews like this makes me want to make the trek and try it.

That was so much better than the fish and chips you had the other day. The lamb dish in particular looked fantastic and for that I would give it 9.5/10. Can’t beat a great meal alongside a great pint of Irish stout! Looked a lovely setting as well so well done to Connor for having such an excellent establishment.
