I haven't had cable in years. When I want to sit back and relax their are plenty of content creators here to enjoy.

    • @urbanasupernova562

People in their 20's are favoring TH-cam, Neflix, and Hulu viewing over the rising cost of cable. I'm late 30's, and I have cable for different reasons. But I understand why many millennials do not.

    • @jettcord6834
      @jettcord6834 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

+Jeremy Seal Yah, totally Jeremy! The rabbit ears work well for tons of football games and about 20 other channels at our house... we also have Netflix and free tablet streaming of certain major programs. I've paid crazy amounts for cable over the years. I was even forced to pay for cable once, as part of a college apartment contract. Never again! Good luck in your retro-grading adventure. I'm sending you a 'rabbit ears peace sign'.

+Wheels8504 I can understand where you are coming from. I was 18 in the year 2000, so I am right on the fence of the old ways vs. the new. I have to say, I'm leaning toward the creator content of youtube, instead of random channel surfing. Thanks for the reply.

A nice list. I'll tell ya what. Back in 1997 I worked at a movie theater and was a "screener" as part of my job. Basically to watch the films to make sure the reels were put in the right order. So I was able to screen the Star Wars SE trilogy, the day before release and in an empty theater by myself and got paid to do it. It was awesome and my friends hated me for it. I don't know how you kept the list to 20. Mine'd never end

Nothing like popcorn, beer, and a good movie by yourself in a theater while on the clock :D

how did you get the gig?

    • @GTV-Japan
      @GTV-Japan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Neil Wallace well it's not the only duty there. I worked selling tickets and the mgr. asked me. Almost no one wanted to do it because it could only be done after 1am when the theatres weren't being used. They offered to give me the reels when it was over too! But I said no because they were so massive I had no space for it.

Love hearing you tell stories about your Father. I lost my dad to cancer at a young age but have so many memories of watching these same movies with him. He let me watch Robocop, not the TV version, when I was like 8! lol. If I have kids someday I am definitely showing them sci-fi and horror movies. I was scared back then but cherish those memories now, so glad he did stuff like that. Damn good times!

Watching this made me think I was watching myself... FANTASTIC list!!! I too was a child of the late 70's early 80's. The only movie missing is The Thing, which you made up for by wearing the t-shirt!! Maybe Escape From New York as well, but overall an amazing list of movies. Those are all "life changing" movies. It's funny because I thought for sure your number one movie was going to be The Thing, but then you pulled a magical rabbit out of your hat and picked my favorite movie of all time... Blade Runner!!!!

The first DIE HARD movie blew my mind when I was 15. It's still my favourite movie of all time. I never saw it in theaters but my dad got us a VHS-player in 1990 and first two movies we rented were Lethal Weapon 2 and Die Hard. Good Times :) My favourite TV-series is the original Battlestar Galactica (1978). I saw it before Star Wars, so for me it's the original and best sci-fi tale and Star Wars is just a cheap copy :)

First of all, my English is terrible, so apologize for that! I'm 43, and these movies my favorite too. Close Encorters, Alien, Back to the Future, Terminator, all fantastic films! The first film was Star Wars The New Hope what I saw in the Theatre 30+ years Ago. In the early 80's in Hungary was Socialism an the SW came here 3 Years after the US premiere! It was amasing! I remember clearly even now! And the best! When we went Germany when I was a kid and we bought our first VHS ( Mitshubishi ) and the first film we get is Buckarro Banzai!!! I saw many many times! I put this list my big favorite movie: Kelly's Heroes! Greetings from Hungary!

Awesome video brother. I agree with almost every movie on your list. A movie scene that sticks with me from being a kid to today is the chest burst scene in Alien. That might be the most iconic movie scene in all of horror movies. That scene disturbed me as a kid and still brings back those same "oh my god" feelings when I see it now. Gotta love Alien. That would be in my top 3 of all time. Along with Jaws and Star Wars

I'm actually quite interested to see this list because you have a wide palette of popular and obscure films. Lets see, how many of these have I seen.
20.) Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Never Seen It.)
19.) Time Bandits (Never Seen It.)
    18.) Brazil (Never Seen It.)
17.) Back To The Future (Such a timeless classic, and just an awesome movie for all generations of people.)
16.) Ghostbusters (Another timeless classic that is easily quotable with some of the best sharp and comedic dialogue I've ever had the pleasure of watching.)
15.) Apocalypse Now (Never Seen It.)
14.) Lord of The Rings Trilogy (Beautiful films and probably the best representation of medieval fantasy.)
13.) E.T. (Another timeless classic, and a film that deserves to be watched by kids and adults.)
12.) Star Trek Film Series (I only ever seen the voyage home, but I need to watch the other ones as well.)
11.) Army of Darkness (Never Seen It.)
10.) The Matrix (I was lucky enough to watch this in theatre, and watching this film in theatre was one of the best theatre experiences I ever had.)
9.) The Godfather Trilogy (I only ever seen the first film - fairly recently actually. I still need to watch the other two entries in the series.)
8.) The Terminator (One of the best action movies out there, the sequel is obviously superior but this one is a great addition and it deserves to be watched by action films and film fans alike.)
7.) Conan the Barbarian (Never seen it from beginning to end. I seen specific parts, but I need to watch it from beginning to end.)
6.) Indiana Jones Film Series (I seen all the films, but I never watched temple of doom from beginning to end. I seen parts of the second film, but never the entire thing.)
5.) Alien Quadrilogy (I do prefer Aliens over Alien, but Aliens is probably the best action of the 1980's and its probably one of the best action movies of all time.)
4.) Star Wars (There is nothing that needs to be said. A film series that lives up to the legacy that it represents.)
3.) Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai (Never Seen It.)
2.) Big Trouble In Little Ninja (One of my best memories as a child when it came to watching movies.)
1.) Blade Runner (A movie I finally watched within the last ten years. One of the best film scores I ever listened to, and one of the most beautiful movies I've ever had the pleasure to watch with regards to its scenery, setting, philosophical message, and dialogue.)
A really good list and at least I watched the majority of these films.

I must say that I have been watching your channel for quite a while now & for a minute there I almost thought you was going to disappoint me for a moment, until you pulled Blade Runner out of the bag. Still to this day, I cannot believe this film was made mostly with practical effects & miniature sets. I just love the way the universe of Blade Runner feels futuristic & yet old at the same time. I think this embodies the essence of what has come to be referred to as "Used Future." The term was actually made popular by Star Stars, but I don't think any film made it feel as believable as Blade Runner. Truly awesome film.

Very Nice list! Some movies I still need to see though, so thx for the tips. But can I ask, why was the soundtrack of the original Shadowgate playing when you were talking about the Alien trilogy? That's my ringtone on my phone :-).

Swap E.T., Star Trek, Conan, Buckaroo Banzai, and Alien with Seven Samurai, Gojira (Godzilla King of the Monsters), Stargate, Starship Troopers, and Ghost in the Shell (animated) and you essentially have my top 20 list (not same order) as well. I will definitely have to give Conan and Buckaroo Banzai a look. Thanks for sharing!

Hearing you talk about Blade Runner gave me goosebumps, I feel the exact same way and have ever since I first saw it. First cut I saw was the UK theatrical and it's the one I prefer (although I prefer the "I want more life, Father" line from the US cut) and the Final Cut looks just absolutely amazing.

Reminds me of that very awesome Lord of Thunder podcast episode you did with alphaomegesin on favorite movies (more episodes please!!) I suppose its fitting that I'm about to watch Blade Runner for the first time for an English class at university, due tomorrow!

Great list man. Its funny because my parents were the same way, they just didn't care what I watched. My love of horror movies developed because of that. Growing up in the 80s was truly amazing.

Fun fact: Harrison Ford did not want to be in Raiders of the Lost Ark because he didn't want to be associated with every George Lucas project. Ford already was commited to other films but I believe those were canceled or something. Besides, Tom Selleck was getting famous for Magnum so Selleck dropped out to focus on the TV show and Ford accepted to do Raiders.

For me seeing the Matrix (at Silver City in Richmond!) was about seeing the trailer for Star Wars: Episode I. And I came out of the theatre thinking that I had just seen something that would make Star Wars irrelevant. Even though the Star Wars prequels left the door open for someone to replace them, the Matrix sequels couldn't maintain that momentum and take over.

Yes!! Blade Runner! One of my top three favorite movies of all time! (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Blade Runner). I've recommended it to many people.
What you said about how you don't think you'd be who you are today without Star Wars, yes, that's true for me too. It changed me from an early age. Who knows what I'd be like today and what I'd be doing today, if it wasn't for that movie. It had SUCH an impact in younger people when they first saw it.
On that note, the documentary "Empire of Dreams", about George Lucas, his early movies, and then the creation of Star Wars, is a fantastic documentary. It renewed my respect and appreciation for George and for what he really accomplished.
