Puppies are so delicate. When my dog was 14 weeks she broke her leg playing with her toy. She stood on the edge and her hind leg came off the side and literally snapped. Was the loudest pop I’ve ever heard and just a heartbreaking scream. I cried more than she did :(

Such a sweet doggie and such a nice family but tiny dog+rowdy kid= bad idea from the start

I sincerely dislike when families with a household of all, or mostly young children decide they want a cute little puppy but *don’t* teach their kids to be gentle/careful about how you interact with them, and that they’re not just toys. I just hope the kids learn from this and the pup isn’t traumatized :(

The problem is that a lot of kids simply cannot understand until nearer to 11 or 12. I personally was not super nice to my dog, but she sticks to me like glue now. It takes time. Some kids -I have ADD- dont understand social situations with even other humans very well. What I'm saying is getting a dog that young CAN increase responsibility greatly, but some kids will not understand how to play well with them... it's no ones fault these things are unpredictable.
@@Tayl0r_ it was an accident. The mom just said the kids were playing duck duck goose and the puppy decided to jump in and run with them. Sometimes when animals are really close you accidently step on them. My dog sleeps RIGHT next to my bed where my feet go in the morning. Every day i step on a paw or tail or trip over him. My husband is very tall and sometimes doesnt see the cat under his feet and gets his tail. It happens sometimes

I always say families should wait to get a puppy! Until the kids fully understand! These poor situations would be avoided

im here yeah but sometimes puppies aren't the best way to go. If kids get too playful, injuries can happen and the puppy might not be comfortable around the kids. They should've gotten a grown dog or a bigger one

Always had Chihuahuas. Children and Chihuahuas are not a got match. These are delecate dogs and rowdy children don't match. As the mom you can't let your children have full blown access to a Chihuahua.

This is why you don't get a baby a puppy.
I suggest an age 8 and up.
But you can't give a 3 yr old a puppy.
It's like giving a baby to a baby to care for.
Odd because my dog was a gift for me on me second birthday and nothing other than us both getting dirty ever occured.
This honestly is just a case of kids being clumsy not really age.
Yeah, like my grandparents got me a three month old puppy for Christmas when I was about 10, which was a good age

I think it's great the family took the pup to the vet for its leg, but I think before anyone gets a dog this tiny or any puppy at all, the kids should be old enough to know how to be careful around the pup, or at least be taught how to be gentle with it, because kids don't know how fragile the puppy is, and the puppy doesn't know how bad it can get hurt running with the kids

I was 6 when I got a dog because we saved it. My mom didn’t let me be alone for him and kept lecturing me that he was a small dog and I needed to be CAREFUL because he could get hurt. The worst thing that ever happened to him was that he was little enough for my build a bear clothes and that my mom stopped he quick by telling me he was a dog not a toy. I never stepped on him....

Kids and small dogs are a risky situation. Parents need to supervise till kids get it. It still can be an accident, but try and prevent and all will be happy.

Sorry but if you have small and rambunctious children, you have no business buying/adopting a small animal of any kind. (the more common animals though seems to be hamsters, birds, and cats) They’re more likely to be stressed or injured. Small kids are not always equipped enough to self-aware about these things.
It aggravates me that parents think puppy is a good subsitue for a babysitter for their kids. It's so wrong to use a dog or cat to distract your kids. Having a puppy is a huge responsibility.

Oh my goodness the baby 😫 I have a chi too & I don’t let kids around her, she’s very quiet and sweet & wouldn’t hurt a fly but kids can be so rambunctious & things like this happen all too often! I’m not having kids either 😖

This reminds me of a situation my cousins had. I used to have two guinea pigs, and well.. boy and girl..birds and the bees stuff.. and they had a few babies, 3. We gave one to my cousins since they wanted a pet..but two days later.. we got a call from my aunt. My lil cousin was jumping on the bed with the guinea pig and dropped him, which broke his two back legs.
We got him back but sadly as we were heading to the animal hospital, he died. It was heartbreaking for me cause he died in my arms. My dad helped me make him a coffin and a grave for him. He’s buried under the tree in our yard. It’s a special little place for me. I never allow people to step inside the small rocks I put around him.
It’s been 4/5 years since then, and I still do that.

Disappointed she was irresponsible enough to allow her Chihuahua puppy to run around while there were children roughhousing, but props that she took immediate action and got her straight to a vet. There are quite a few people that wouldn't bother doing that immediately.
At least you are not jumping on the kid. Few people hurt their animal on purpose. My cat sometimes gets under my foot and if I'm not quick I risk stepping on him. I don't want to and I'm terrified of hurting him but when he makes me trip... well, there have been close calls.

Wow, that's messed up. I have a tiny dog and you never let them around young kids playing because of this, and kids mishandle and drop them which also can break their legs. One "smiling" stupid mother.
Was she also one smiling stupid mother getting it to the vet immediately after?? Judging and ciriticizing is easy and lazy.
