Matchbox Super Kings K-10 Car Transporter (072)

- On the bench today is a 1:66 scale Matchbox Super Kings K-10 Car Transporter. I’m putting it together with a Scammell Tractor. These are very well worn - just about worn out, so I’ll breath some life back into them and customize them to be a brand new looking Maple Leaf Matchbox Makeover transporter.
The Car Transporter (K-10) was released in two versions with two different colours and two different tractors between 1976-1986. The Car Transporter sold as an empty trailer or with various 1-75 cars. From 1986 onwards, the same trailer came with a third tractor, but a new number, this was Car Transporter Leyland (K-120). Mine is not a matching set of any of those variations, but it’s just going to sit on my hobby desk, and I like this combo. Considering that I got it for the low, low price of 1 euro, I’m happy. This will be my attempt to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear!

FYI: I don't collect, display or sell the cars, and they’re certainly not competition entries. All Maple Leaf Matchbox Makeovers finished projects are put in custom blister packs and go to my local Goodwill store where they are given to children for free.

That turned out wonderfully Andrew! While I'm always impressed to see the "scraping" off of the paint to reveal the details, I've been too scared to try it myself. You did it beautifully!

K series are great, specialy those older ones with the metal base. Great result!!!
The black wash really got me, we use to do that in the early 90's, to revive actual car bumpers burnt from years of sun exposure.

You can feel the quality of these K series just by holding them. They're big and heavy! The black wash does the trick! Later.

I remember having one of those as a kid, but unfortunately it did not survive my childhood. Excellent job with it brother, looks like it's ready to go for another 40 years or more.

Beautiful restoration Andrew, right up my street this model, excellent repair on the suspension part and some great techniques, I really enjoyed this video and learned a few things from you today, it’s easy to get stuck in ones ways of doing things until you see how other people do things. That's probably your best one yet my friend that turned out awesome! I'm glad somebody else uses that scraping technique I thought I was the only one that ever did! And you're right it does two more of an accurate finish by scraping! Great job buddy you're getting better and better every time my friend!

@@MapleLeafCustoms To be honest it's been a terrible year. My 88 year old mum has been very ill and my Uncle also, he has no other family other than me.
On a brighter note the wife and I have bought a Chow Chow puppy.
She is in Omsk Siberia and is only 2 and a half months old. She should be here in January.

I have several superkings from when I was growing up that are in excellent condition, thanks to my father’s insistence that I always return them to their boxes when done playing. 😆 For some reason I never got a car transporter yet that’s one of the vehicles that I would like to acquire the most. I keep my eyes open but never seem to spot one for a reasonable price- someday...someday I’ll find one. 🧐
I hope you will. Mine is not a matching set, but I like the cab I found better than the original one. I think my mismatched pair cost a dollar on eBay. I'm sure you'll get lucky, Geoff! 🍁

It may not be the original truck for the trailer, but I think it'll do just fine my friend. Both turned out wonderfully. You've given me inspiration to do the same thing with my transporter set that I have. I'm biting off more than I can chew getting into diorama building (trying to create Angel Rock at Cameron lake), so we'll see when I get around to all these things!

I didn't have much growing up except my little cars and some imagination, and it breaks my heart to know that families with kids are going to the Goodwill because they've got even less. It's my little contribution to brighten their day, especially at this time of year. I made a promise to myself to do this. The Transporter turned out to be a bigger job than planned, Cole. I knew it was larger, but there were so many parts and details in this one, I went past my regular Saturday upload time.
