I love this guy. In the middle of a serious analysis, he just goes, "Yeah, the move in the 90s was to sacrifice your queen for no particular reason." And he did it so well Charlie bought it.
This video had me full on Dora the explorer talking to the screen calling out moves and waiting for Charlie to get it right, honestly feel like I learned a lot from this.
@Bob Bob daniel said that like its a popular saying when he just made it up idk I think thats pretty much it, but I also found it pretty funny for some reason
I almost feel like I understand what those high level chess players think about when they are playing. I couldn't find any of it on my own, but its cool to have curtain pulled back a bit.
@@Bingus453 Botez Gambit is basically just giving up your queen for no reason. There are of course valid reasons to sac the queen, but Botez Gambit is just a joke about Alexandra Botez who keeps blundering the queen

When I watch these lessons, I feel like I am able to absorb much more than when watching lessons with other streamers and their teachers. I don't know if it's cause I'm probably on a similar level to Charlie and that Daniel's personality is well suited to teach Charlie specifically. Either way, my online ELO has been climbing lately :)
@@Tryitout95 Not for me. I am 2100 online, and I'll tell you, you don't need a grandmaster to teach someone at charlie's level. I used to take lessons with an FM (Fide master), and his teaching style is VERY similar to Daniel's. I don't want to sound arrogant but I'm confident I could give Charlie lessons with pretty much the same results. I wish Daniel could coach me, (again, not trying to sound arrogant but just being realistic) someone at my level would benefit greatly from a GM like Daniel because his expertise would push me to what I need to achieve master (or close to master). But chess lessons are so expensive for some reason. Daniel could easily charge $100 USD an hour based on his ratings and what other GM's charge.
@@denniss9509 2100 online (I am about the same) we are barely scratching the surface of positional understanding. My belief is one needs to be at least an IM to be a good teacher. Question: What do you think prevents you from being 2300+ in online blitz?
Out of all the PogChamps coaches, I think Daniel and Robert Hess have done the most coaching / teaching prior to this. Teaching chess, much like playing chess, is a skill that improves with practice
The more experienced in chess we are the more we can group several moves into one "name". So that 2 move checkmate is just one thing in our head, and even the staircase pattern. When we see chess players calculating many moves ahead, sometimes in their heads that's just one "thing"
I hope Charlie would continue getting chess lessons with Daniel so that we can enjoy content like this from the legendary duo of Modern Jesus and The Prophet
This most definitely did not feel like 43 minutes. I am typically never able to watch online chess lessons all the way to the end, but when it also involves two people interacting with each other it all of a sudden becomes much less boring.

That was probably the best game analysis video I've watched. And I've watched a fair few. Charlie is a perfect foil to Daniel. Really seriously good teaching video.

As a person who is objectively dogshit at chess, playing or watching matches usually feels like a nine year old would feel if his parents decided it was his turn to do their taxes, so it’s basically never been a good experience for me before. But I have to hand it to you, these lessons are so entertaining and enjoyable! You’re honestly a great teacher, you don’t pamper the student with redundant questions or shallow compliments, but you’re also very careful about not making them feel stupid or downplaying their accomplishments. Wish I had more teachers like you, a couple of months ago I would have said I hated chess, but you genuinely made it fun for me. 💜
Sometimes its good to dissociate while playing. You have to watch yourself play, instead of focusing on playing. If you've ever been "in the zone" while playing music, sports, or video games, you'll understand this. Another way of thinking about it is when you're trying to come up with a good comment, and you're more focused on the structure and flow of the comment than the fingers typing the letters, you see?
I have recently started following daniel. And I already became big fan. Awesome in-depth explanation for position and best series is the master speed run
I saw only part of the video but I must say it's great. Daniel is great teacher. I saw Charlie few months (weeks?) ago, he played really badly (not trying to mock him, he was just normal beginner), but now he sees great moves pretty often and his calculation is much faster. Improvement he made is actually masssive. Thanks to both of you, this video might actually encourage me to start working with coach on a regular basis.
at 13:25 white can actually give Ng5+ forcing king to G8, after which QD3 generates more threats against H7. Black is forced to stop it with g6 and only then taking the bishop is reasonable. The engine favors creating the threat with Ng5 (check or not) before recapturing the bishop.
I really liked where you talk about the paradoxical nature of pawn breaks. I think that comes up a lot in chess. I was thinking a while back about how it's interesting that while the queen is the most powerful piece, she can often be the biggest liability because her value makes her vulnerable to attack by any other defended piece, and on the other hand, pawns can often be the strongest defender of a square because theyre so expendable, and the threat of expending the pawn forces the opponent to play around it. In some ways the strongest chessmen are the weakest, and vice versa
