I was going to get this radio, but between the fact that the price continues to inflate past $160 and the this LCD issue, I'm going to pass on this. Whats sad is, you get a "replacement" that had the same exact issue as the last one. This is unacceptable, and Eton / Grundig need to look more closely into their quality control. Its a shame, as it it a nicely designed radio, and when those folks out there get a working (trouble free) unit, they perform quite well. Lastly, even "if" you do get one that is perfectly good, and working, the question that always remains is,...for how long?
I came to the conclusion about a year ago that It was due to the LCD getting to cold and the crystals freezing considering I don’t leave the garage heated 24/7 in the winter because of the cost, anyways if your looking for a Shortwave radio with good sound and your not to bothered by the bandwidth then it’s a definite recommend for me!
@@canadianradiotvguy1299 Wait, are you saying it was on "your end" that the LCD was going berserk, because it was to cold? So the issue resolved itself once you were in a warmer environment?
@Heather Phillips Exactly! In the Summer it works great, it’s that the crystals in the LCD display freeze and don’t light up or flicker periodically In colder climates, it’s pretty common with LCD displays , It can also happen in extreme heat or if leave an LCD display outside and the sun shines on it directly all day it can become faded , but I haven’t noticed that the heat effects the Eton field. Mostly because it’s indoors in the garage
I hear when the set is not on a strong signal but I interpret his local interference probably from devices connected to the same electrical infrastructure as the radio. It would be interesting to check the set operating on battery outside away from buildings & commercial power.
You're very lucky! I've had nothing but trouble with FOUR of them over the years! In fact, I just returned my Field last week. I bought it the end of 2017. When covid started, the tuning dial started to malfunction. Turn it to the right, the display would jump around wildly. During the lockdown, I didn't bother with it. I bought it from Hammacher Schlemmer here in NYC. They took it back and I got a store credit. It's really to bad though, because I considered this to be the BEST sounding radio I've ever owned, including the Eton Grundig Satellit 750, which suffers the SAME tuning issue and more. Totally done with Eton.
Have the field BT and Elite Field the BT volume basically goes to 6 not max volume. I thought the Elite Field was and upgrade from the Field BT, seems only cosmetic
Mine packed up after a month. I couldn't send it back to Amazon, and the support was awful. It won't power on. It was lightly used. Also it burns through batteries in a single day. Not a patch on my previous Eton radio. Eventually they gave me a code to return it for repair, at my expense!!! I regret buying it.
I'm very disappointed with the product and the poor support. I've had Eton/Grundig radios for years. This one worked for about a month and then wouldn't power on. It also ate batteries, in a single day and all it was doing was being a clock/alarm at the time.

We just got this radio. Haven’t had very good luck with AM, but otherwise seems good. I’ve seen quite a few complaints on the QC tho.
I've always had very good luck with Eton radios

@jimsradiocheck936 Same Here! Love Eton! I've had my issues with them but still love em!
How about recording a new video showing us what you are doing, instead of standing in front of the unit??
You know I had that very same issue on mine. I also sent it back immediately.
When you said you could listen to cb. Did you mean citizens band radio ?
Yes 👍🏻
I'm getting this on Halloween 🎃🎃🎃 thanks for your great demo. Stuart Coates
Is there any way to disable 'mute tuning' ('soft tuning')?
Very good review and demostration. Thanks.
Canadian radio tv guy my hobbies are painting pictures 🖼 and listening to shortwave and ssb iam thinking about getting my ham license
It looks like a very nice radio! If only these had SSB...
Yeah That’s The Only Thing Missing With It!
Build a BFO, easy project.
I meant to add, I don't think it merits the title 'Field Radio'. Compared to previous Eton models this doesn't seem as robust.
eton elite field vs eton field bt grundig Which one is better?
There’s no one or the other , there pretty much identical! The only difference is the black cosmetic change
@@canadianradiotvguy1299 which is to charge batteries.Connect the adapter/charger icon appears in the LCD .???

Still Works Great! No Issues yet!
