    After ordering Jot, I can confirm that a lot of time and energy was put into marketing and customer experience - which I appreciated. It was fun.
    I posted a review on my page a few weeks ago. I got a ton of acidity - to the point where I could only describe it as sour. It's interesting to me that you didn't get those levels of acidity, which tells me that Jot may be quickly tweaking their brewing process in response to customer feedback. If that's the case, good on them! Thanks for your review, the production level was 👌

    • @Sprometheus
      @Sprometheus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is interesting! Maybe batches differ a bit too. I wonder who is roasting their coffee. Or if they are sourcing directly from a roaster. Either way, it’s an interesting product.

    Well for a guy who doesn’t really do reviews this was a pretty good one. Honestly I’m surprised you found it palatable. I expected it to taste more akin to instant. Price vs how many coffees you get out of it... well let’s just say I’m definitely not the target there. I started roasting to save money, and If I quit buying brewing toys one day that dream will come true.

    I've also been getting a ton of ads about this. I was considering trying it out as I work in a hospital so having an easy way to grab good coffee is key. But I'd also be worried about leaking and carrying a dirty tablespoon around. Seems more versatile than instant but single serve packets from Sudden or Voila still looks like the way to go for me.

    • @Sprometheus
      @Sprometheus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kevin Goslen yeah I’m not sure how well that lid seals. It’s not a screw on, more of a rubber cork situation. But in that case Sudden or Voila probably work well. If you haven’t tried Steeped that’s another good option.

    I'm interested in what they called "reverse gravity" extraction. I'm also interested in their claims of environmental impact, and what that means for their sourcing since green marketing almost always falls short and 99% of the time ignore the bulk of the Sustainable Development Goals. But, I would always rather have the worst pulled shot made by a person in front of me than something made by a silicon valley startup.

    • @Sprometheus
      @Sprometheus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I’m curious too. Maybe just a name to make it sound more interesting than it actually is. Also find it odd they took that wording off their site and replaced it. But in the end, who knows why anyone does anything.
      I do think it’s very easy to toss the word sustainable out there, and it’s used very liberally with very little oversight. To stand out they should really put that out there with a bit more transparency.
      I agree though. In the end I miss the experience of having a barista, skilled or not, make my coffee. It’s all part of the overall feeling.

    I would love an alternative to fresh brewed coffee from beans as I live on a sailboat and storage is at a premium. The promise of concentrared coffee with the same delight as my pour over has a huge appeal. But I am put off by the slick marketing and high cost. My bullshit meter is ringing. I think your review confirms my skepticim is justified. Jot sounds like a rather ordinary product that doesn't quite deliver equal to the hype. I sound so cynical. My applogies for the sour note! But the bunny logo is appealing!

    • @kingofthebums
      @kingofthebums 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I'm just brainstorming here. I guess it depends on how long your trips are. And at sea weight is less of a concern than volume. To start it's great because the need for a brewing device and filters is gone. No grinder. And the bottles make for a pretty decent package.
      My original thought was you could store a lot of beans in bags and that might be better than little bottles for a really long trip but now I guess not.
      Really if the product tastes good enough that you never feel the need to experiment then it could save a ton of space.

    I just received 2 bottles today. I got the cool cup with it but no Tablespoon. I haven’t tried it yet. I drink only hot black dark roast coffee so I’m curious how this will taste. I’m suspicious it will be bitter drinking it black.
    UPDATE: This morning (Sunday) I tried it this morning. 8oz hot water and 1 Tbsp, per the directions. I’m a very simplistic coffee snob. I want simple maximum coffee flavor. Nothing more, nothing less.
    This Jot stuff is 100% absolute CRAP. It tastes like they used the left over sweepings off the floor of poor quality coffee beans, then made concentrate from that.
    They went bottom budget by using low quality roasted beans and concentrated it hoping it would yield extra coffee flavor.
    It tastes like old stale low quality MJB or Folgers. I gave it a fair try and took a second longer sip. Nope.
    I dumped it straight down the sink drain. I proceeded to use my French Press with ground Espresso beans like I do 7 days a week, and it was glorious as usual.
    The quality is so poor I don’t even want to give it away.
    Anyone who likes the flavor of this knows nothing about good coffee.
    To each their own, but this isn’t for me.

    Thank you so much for showing the TDS! Was so curious as I have some of this from when I purchased it a bit ago and haven't used it but was trying to figure out how to do some recipes with it and needed TDS but don't have a TDS meter at the moment so this was 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
