BEFORE & AFTER: DIY Garage Makeover with Storage

- Remember that pantry cabinet from my last video? Let's use it to transform my parents' cluttered garage in today's video.
This video was sponsored by Mr. Cool. Learn more about Mr. Cool and the available models and their features at www.mrcooldiy.com
My parents' garage was just kind of...a mess. I wanted to help them clean up, organize, and update this corner of it so my dad would have somewhere to tinker and my mom could store away all her paint cans (besides the floor).
I hope you enjoy watching this simple, but practical garage makeover and a peek at something new I recently added to my own shop space.

This comment is for all the fans out there like me who just get Sharas style and designs and love the simplicity in build and complexity in color and custom fit 🎉🎉🎉
Every dad wishes they have a daughter like you
That battery charging station is awesome 👍
What a great daughter! I bet your parents are really proud of you ... especially dad.
You’re so kind! I owe them a lot for raising me and all my stubbornness 😆 I’m happy to be able to do something for them in return when I can. Thank you so much for watching!
I see the dog feeding station is painted the same color! What a great space. So functional and nice to look at. It's great that you could do this for them.
It is! I threw that together really quick and painted it to match. Hopefully Hank (their dog) can keep it semi clean for a little bit 😆 thank you so much for watching! I hope you have a great weekend!
I thought you might have made it. Looks like a great height for Hank.
You are the best daughter ever!! I absolutely love your projects!! The simple styles and builds are right on point for things that I really, REALLY, need in my life! Thank you so very much for all of your hard work, and for sharing everything that you do!! I watch your videos on repeat constantly!!
Your parents are blessed to have a talented daughter whom is an excellent Woodworker, and Craftsman!
I like your straightforward design and build and the cabinets look great,
Well done!
I’m blessed with great parents! I’m glad I can give something back to them after all they’ve done for me. Happy you enjoyed watching this project come together and I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Happy building!
I liked seeing the whole happy family but Hank is the BIG STAR
Haha Hank is definitely a BIG something 🤣 He showed up one day after our small town had a tornado and my parents didn’t want a dog, but they felt bad for him. Now I don’t know what they’d do without him 😆
Wow, how timely is this (for me, at least)... we are literally in the middle of cleaning some clutter out of our 1960's garage to do a makeover (starting with repairing the peeling drywall tape 🤦♂). I'm definitely stealing a couple of these ideas. Nice to see some family cameos too! And I'm sure I speak for many of your loyal followers when I say how relieved we are that you FINALLY treated yourself to some HVAC in your shop thanks to Mr. Cool (although I still want some sock monkey glamour shots 😂). Lastly, in an unintended "truth will out" moment, at 8:54 and following, the title line of your app reveals who the real boss of the shop is (as if we didn't know 😉). Great video!
Garage updates are some of my favorite projects! Good luck with that drywall tape-I don’t envy you on that part 🙈 but I hope your update goes smoothly!
Don’t worry-sock monkey hat will still be around! I can’t quite give up working with the doors open when its still reasonably mild temps outside 😅 But you are 100% right-I named it Bubs Shop because he is definitely in charge out here 😁🤣
I truly appreciate you watching and following along and I hope you have a wonderful weekend 😎 Happy building!
I recently discovered your channel and I was honestly impressed by how strong and intelligent you are. You already have a new subscriber, thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you so much for subscribing and following along! I hope you continue to enjoy the projects and videos 😊 Have a wonderful weekend!
Another great build Shara! Your dad is truly going to enjoy his new organized space! Your method of locating the screw holes for the battery chargers is too simple! Ingenious! Thanks for sharing this one. Have a great weekend and please, keep on building!
I can’t take credit for the painters tape trick. I saw it years ago somewhere (but can’t remember where now 🙈) but it’s come in handy several times! Those things are always a pain to try and locate without it.
I hope you have a great weekend as well and thank you so much for watching! 🙌
Your parents must be very proud 👍
If they are, the feeling is mutual. They’re great people. I’m very lucky to have them.
An extremely talented beautiful, wife/daughter, and it looked good when finished. I really liked the idea of the power charging station.
I appreciate you, your skills and the videos you make. This is another home run.
You’re so kind! I appreciate you watching and hope you have an amazing weekend!
Fantastic work, Shara! Really well done! 😃
The small thing on the side was brilliant!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you! That little cubby was the perfect size for small paint cans! Glad we figured out a way to make use of that space. I appreciate you watching and hope you have a great weekend!
You are so wonderful to your parents!! I'm am SO glad to see your new heater in the workshop!! So worried about you freezing over the past years!
I see you took good care to make sure Hank was helped out too. Very nice build.
Hank is spoiled almost as much as my own pets 🙈🤣 I think he’s happy with the before and after, too. I appreciate you watching and hope you have a great weekend!
My wife and I just bought our first home and I’m super excited to start building things. Shara’s videos are great!
Congratulations on your new home! So happy you enjoy the videos. I hope they’re helpful!
Happy building! 🙌🔨
Wonderful makeover! Now dad can buy more "stuff" and clutter up the garage again. (grin)
Haha that’s exactly what will happen 🤣 But I’m over there often enough, I’ll make sure it stays halfway decent for a while ha!
Love this type of video where we get to see where u put all the things u have built ❤️
So glad you enjoyed it! I appreciate you watching and hope you have a great weekend!
That painter's strip trick for the battery board is great... I'll have to remember that one. Would be handy for SO many things 👍😁💙
You did two things here that I’ve been thinking about for a few days. First? The Mr. Cool. I’m looking into installing one in a room addition. The second is the charging station. I like how it’s all on one board. It all looks great and it was satisfying to see your parents getting organized.
Fab job, kiddo! This parent is proud of you and this one is saved to my DIY list. Thankyou.
I love to see your builds and makes! You’re my inspiration! You know what’s needed, you see the space you have to work in, and you build accordingly! I could tell your dad was very proud of his daughter! Thank you! 🌟💖🤘
Shara, you did a great job getting your Parents garage in better shape. Isn't if wonderful when everything fits perfectly in the space you have to work with. Yesterday I turned off the furnace here and today we started the air conditioner. I have to tell you I was paying close attention to how you handled cool and warm temperatures in your shop. Hugs to Bub's and Lucy. I hope you get to spend some time with Family celebrating Mother's Day. Thanks for Sharing!
You hooked your parents up! Great use of space!
I think they’re pretty excited-especially my dad 😆 he will enjoy tinkering out here and having an actual workbench to do stuff on when he’s working on his car. Anyway, I appreciate you watching and hope you have a great weekend! 🙌
Wonderful labor of love for your parents. Thanks!
Thank you so much for watching! This was a really fun build. I hope you have a great weekend!
Another great video and a very thoughtful daughter -- great job!!!
Outstanding Shara! Great use of space and clever use of the side wall. Always enjoy your videos and watching you create great projects! Keep them coming !!
Once again, you nailed it (or screwed it, as the case may be) Love watching your work!
You always do such nice, clean, sensible work. Really well done -again!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it and I truly appreciate you watching! Have a great weekend 😎
I built doors like that this week for my bathroom vanity,They came out great. thanks for the tip.
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching and happy building! 🙌
What a great project to do for your parents. I'm sure they're thrilled!
Thank you! I was so excited to do this for my parents. My Dad was so happy to have a place to tinker around with his car stuff. I really appreciate you watching and hope you have a wonderful weekend!
@@WoodshopDiaries You're welcome, Shara. Enjoy your weekend!!
Nice build ! I think your dad could have reached the original cabinet door. The man is big 🫡
He may have been able to, but my mom definitely couldn’t-she’s about 4” shorter than me 😅 I actually don’t even think they’ve put anything up there in that part of the pantry-they haven’t filled up the rest of it yet 😆
Awesome project! Nice gift for your parents!
Thank you so much! I think they’re pretty excited about it. I appreciate you watching and hope you have a great weekend!
Love the paint shelves, what a great efficient use of space!
I have never seen the tape hack for hole location for the chargers. I like it
I saw that somewhere several years ago (I can’t take credit for it!) and it’s come in handy several times!
Great project! I liked how you “faked” the look as you said on the doors.
Thank you! It’s an easy way to make shaker style doors without all the hassle (time and tools). Thanks so much for watching and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Nice job Shara....I am sure they appreciated your hard work...way to go!!
Ausome practical build. Who's a better daughter than Shara???
Haha thank you! I’m sure there are far better daughters than me-I don’t think I was easy to raise 🙈🤣 but I hope a few projects here and there are good payback ha!
All of that stuff fit in those cabinets? Wow! Looks nice Shara.
With room to spare! We did sort through and throw some stuff away, but they still have plenty of space left in the pantry cabinet and the tool chest. 🙌
Perfect as usual ! Showing and teaching usefull tips. Amazing 👍
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for watching and I hope you have a great weekend!
That is a very nice think that you did for your parents. I am sure that they greatly appreciate it and are very proud of you!
Thank you! I think they were pretty excited about it-especially Dad 😆 After putting up with me all these years, they deserve much more than some garage cabinets, but maybe that’s a good start 😅
Lucky parents to have a very handy daughter. Now it's up to dad to keep the garage tidy. Love all the work you did Shara. You can be proud at yourself.
Thanks for showing this "project" and witing for more wonderful stuff. Have a nice weekend. All this from a (finaly) sunny Netherlands.
Haha it’ll be a tough job for my dad to keep it tidy. I’m over there enough, though, I’ll make sure it doesn’t get out of control again 😆 thank you so much for watching-I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy that sunshine! 😎
Everything you do is amazing!
I'm sure your parents are thrilled with their garage makeover!!! It's amazing what a great feeling it is to have everything organized and saves time because stuff is easy to find. You did an awesome job as always. I'm so happy you and Bubby got a Mr. Cool for the shop! It will make your time in the shop so much nicer all year. No more down time because of weather extremes. Happy Mother's Day to you from Bubby and Lucy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice job! And a video with many good ideas. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it and I truly appreciate you watching!
looks great Shara!
Thank you so much! Enjoy your weekend! 😎
Looks so much better. I bet they got rid of a good amount of unnecessary stuff while they were shuffling things around..
Very cool project. Everything turned out great👍🏾
Gran trabajo y que lindo que puedas hacerlo por ellos, Felicitaciones !!!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you watching!
Looks great Shara it turned out great
Love the work Shara! If you ever come to Southern Missouri you can fix up my shop I'll make cinnamon rolls lol. Love the tape trick for mounting things. Can't count the times I've used it. Awesome on the mini split too, I love how mine has cut the humidity in my shop to a wood friendly level. Plus it makes year round woodworking comfortable
Looks awesome! Super useful upgrade. 🙌🏻
Only downside is your videos are so short! Amazing job as always.
Yes! I wouldn't have minded if it was longer.
Haha I appreciate you watching! I always try to keep it kind of short-mostly because I have trouble focusing to edit if they get too long 🙈😆
It looks awesome. You did a great job!
Very nice project Shara!
Looks great!
Thank you so much! I appreciate you watching and hope you have a great weekend!
What a beautiful family... Great to see you building for them... My carport is probably going to get that build this summer... God bless you...
You’re so kind. Thank you for watching and good luck with setting up your carport! Sounds like an exciting summer ahead!
Very nice job. Liking the designs.

Great space

Very nice looks cool
Thank you! I appreciate you watching and hope you have a great weekend!
@@WoodshopDiaries thank you you too have a great weekend
Saludos muy buenos trabajos
Thank you so much! I appreciate you watching!
Are you self-taugjt? I'm just now beginning woodworking but things are so expensive. Especially wood. I'm very impressed!
Brilliant Shara well done i bet your parents spend more time in the Garage now than the house😂doing the little odd jobs and now putting the stuff they use back.
How did Hank like his new food and water station, and why does your Dad have so many chargers? you will have to tell him to cut down to at least two or three.
Take Care.
Barry (UK) xx
Love it! What paint color did you use?
Thank you! The cabinets are SW Software
😊 They need to standardize their rechargeable tools 😊
Haha they’re like me…a little of everything and okay with that 🤣
Can I adopt you plus I love your ginger shop helper.
Do you mind sharing what software you use to mock up everything? I saw a few videos where you show the template but you never really go in depth about the software
Where do you get your plywood?
Did you have to make any adjustments for the cabinet due to uneven drywall? Looks like it just went right in :)
No--just used a few shims on the bottom to get it level so it didn't rock, then screwed it into the studs.
