So thankful for this teaching style! So many educational Ableton tutorials start by assuming the viewer has no knowledge of Ableton. You teach for people who use Ableton but seek different workflow perspectives. Loving this shit!!!
The style of teaching is just so clean. I don’t really make music or produce anything - I just enjoy messing about and making Ableton go brrrr - but I’ve subbed because you just give so much information in such a clear way and I always know it’ll be something new and interesting that is still fairly friendly to a newbie like me, but I’m sure would also be informative to someone who isn’t as useless as myself.
These tutorials are not just informative, they just make me a happy chap really. I do like the way you explain stuff. I will be taking one of your courses in the future. It just feels right to me.
Using a drum rack to control the gating is a master stroke, it allows so much more flexibility in the gating variations. Doubling up on the gate is a great tip too, this is such a powerful technique. Awesome tutorial!
I feel like I've learned more about Ableton from you in the past 2 days than the years I've spent using it! Great information brother. I really like the tutorials on specific native Ableton plugins. I appreciate the detail!
Im not even all the way thru this and my mind is on FIRE!!! Dude grab a drum loop, add an envelope follower and then map from there to Utility you have a drum loop that cuts the gain for you.similar bpm turns out great. Thank you so much your videos will forever be my favorite! Trance Gate is so dope.
had to comment again because my mind was blown again in the second half of the vid. don't know how you come up with this stuff, sooo creative and practical. clean sound design is so rewarding.
This is so fucking cool. Using chains of chains to filter gated rhythms in and out. Love all your vids! I've learned so much from you the last couple of weeks haha Thanks for your hard work
Dude, your tutorials are so good. Originally found your video about using saturator to manage peaks, very glad I subscribed. When I have more income available, I'm definitely going to buy a class.
I remember first hearing an effect like this from the band "Fridge" like 10 years ago and I have been pondering how they did this ever since. Thank you my friend
Great tutorial. I used to have a Roland MC-505 that had a "slicer" feature which did those hard gates. This looks infinitely more configurable and powerful. Thanks!
You da man. I'm saving up for your Ableton Course because you're my favorite TH-cam producer/tutorial master. So chill and even more knowledgeable than chill. You help me think about the technical aspects of music production more creatively, and for that I thank you. Keep up the good work.
Cool. The last part with the sidechain was what I was looking for to get those swinged grooves. I heard that in the old days when using hardware they would use a midi sequence to make a rythmic gate. Probably sequencing and automating cc messages.
This is the tutorial I have been looking for and didn't know! For gate sidechaining, if I were to adjust different parameters like velocity, transpose, filtering, panning, etc., on the drum, would they have any effect on the channel that I am gating?
If you want to learn this guy is good. Clear & concise. Ned Rush comes a close 2nd. If you need a tutor look no further. Both men take you too regions others, who call them selves tutors, do not touch or do not have the knowledge and experience. Just an observation made over the years. I know neither of them personally.
Dang I forgot about the Gate Ableton effect, doh! I was about to buy an M4L effect but doing it sidechaining in a programmed gate is much more flexible. I was looking for a good way to separate pitch and gate in the box the way I can with modular sequencing and this appears to be the way in.
Hi sir! Amazing tutorial. But I can't seem to get the clip to have the fresh automation when I create the second chain and click GAIN then the clip, it still shows up with my original automation on the first chain. ???
The first section from 1:22 to 3:18, is there a faster way to do this? I want to create different gate rhythms. In Presonus Studio One, there is a tool called X-Trem which does it on a fly. Please tell me there is a faster way to do this instead of drawing gates individually.
Okay so i found this video explaining it th-cam.com/video/8eD5efx-KEs/w-d-xo.html - It's still a lot of labor involved rather than a simple plugin like X-Trem - Damn....
Great resource. If i can back track a year or so hahah! Using a Multi sample drum rack, how do I find the specific name/sample/location of the 1 - 128 samples? I find that yes I have 128 different kicks to choose from but I have no idea which it is that is being used. Hope that makes sense.
I managed to do this utility gain thing and applied it to a self-sung vocal choir but I hear like a little tick every time the gate makes the audio audible, is there a way to solve this?
Hello, do you know how to solve the boost issue with the chain selector because half way the transition with those two chains, the final volume is boosted and I've been reluctant to use the chain selector as a dry/wet option for other idea's just because of thi.

wow!-like always! 3 levels of complexity brings you further in the space!

You should've made what you had at the end into a full track! So good!
Great ! Was inspirational, spent a few hours on Ableton after watching your tutorial and it was FUN !
Great tutorial as always! 🙏 I'll try soon to map some gate settings to a MIDI knob and see how it works on a live set 😁
The last minute where it all comes together
free plugin "A1TriggerGate" is awesome and I use it so much in pretty much everything.
This is so great. At first I was thinking it was super basic but then I really started to pick up some very useful stuff!
I always learn something creative from your tutorials! keep em coming!
Gate with the sidechain to a snare is also easy to do.

Very cool stuff!
how do you get the automation and modulation buttons in your envelopes section? I only have utility and gain and then linked loop
I managed to do this utility gain thing and applied it to a self-sung vocal choir but I hear like a little tick every time the gate makes the audio audible, is there a way to solve this?
Cool stuff! Going to try that!
Superb!
We cud use autopan with phase and amount all the way up and automating the rate ryt????? That's what I usend to do
